Really? She lived with this guy and didn't know? She had a camper van parked on the drive and didn't know he stole the money to buy it?

I don't buy it.

No comment on mr handsy?

In relation to the finance and audit committee - nope. He was long gone from then SNP by then. Especially given they didn’t all go to his party as claimed, so not remotely relevant.

I do think there should be a wide ranging investigation into any part he played in allowing the culture of theft in the party, given he was the leader for a large chunk of Murrell’s time (and had a long history with PM), along with several other snap big wigs, as I’ve said several times on the threads.

She hasn’t been charged or found guilty of anything but she lost the respect of all. Hard to imagine that a few years ago she was highly thought of and even admired by a lot of people not just SNP supporters! Now it’s all over for her I imagine that she will write a book, hoping to make even more money.

When questioned about Salmond and this case, she always claimed she had no recollection of a lot of things, so it'll be funny to see her suddenly having a full grasp of the past if she writes her memoirs...😆She's nothing but a lying, conniving opportunist.

Oh, come on, ffs...🙄

Yes, I’m not stupid or obtuse but I would like confirmation from our Scottish sisters.

Yeah she knew.

I think her legal advisors would be yelling “NO!” at the idea of it 😂

I wonder if there may be a book in years to come that’s not written by her, but written by someone who has a lot of information they get from “friends of”, “close acquaintances” or “people who were around at that time” that reads remarkably like a memoir, but has deniability (plausible or otherwise)

So by telepathy then?

MP Douglas Chapman had resigned as party treasurer saying he had not been given the "financial information" to do the job.

police search

Firm which audits SNP finances has resigned

The BBC understands the accountants resigned before former SNP chief Peter Murrell was arrested.

Look, it’s pretty obvious I like Nicola. When I worked in youth learning, I said to all the girls (who were there for various reasons, none of them great), that it doesn’t matter where you come from or who you come from, you too could be the FM of Scotland. Council house etc. I still think that. I’m going to step out of the thread now because I still like her. Take care everyone!

It is indeed obvious. And you’re entitled to your opinion, just ans others are entitled to their opinions.

Making up stuff, or being needlessly rude, doesn’t have to be part of a civilised discussion.

They correctly identified there was something wrong precisely because they weren’t allowed to see them

Exactly.

And there is a huge overlap between law and accountancy.

Much of accountancy is basically learning the law as it applies to accounts, and Governance and tax rolls are filled by both accountants and lawyers.

I'm not aware of Murrell having any particular training in either, but many people work in business without specific training.

Anyone is capable of asking 'how are we spending our money?' and 'what is the purpose of this asset?' and 'what is best practice when managing money?'.

Yes, I absolutely know this. But why are people being so obtuse here? Is it true that she is in a relationship with one of Scotland’s greatest living crime fiction novelists? Why is there such a great level of protectionism, even now that she has been exposed for what she is?

The Nats, and their media lackeys, closed ranks to protect Sturgeon and Murrell about their 'living arrangements' and everything else about them. Now, of course, regarding this, they'll throw him to the wolves and paint her as a naive, trusting, blissfully unaware wife.

Does that mean mcDermid has an open marriage? I think this might be a bit of a jump. They could just be 2 lesbian friends & Nicola could have an unknown partner.

Ok I get it, your hero is being accused and this doesn’t meet with how she has presented to you. However, the party faithful who have donated, one of whom maybe you, deserve to get answers from the party as to how their hard earned donations was allowed to be misused for such a long period of time, right under the nose of NS.

If it was me, I would be shouting for answers as I can’t afford £2.5k salt and pepper shakers and I suspect that a lot of the donors can’t either. Do you not think they deserve more from the party than a collective shake of the head?

To be fair, Sturgeon has previously denied some of the rumours around her.

The Balmoral Hotel incident Nicola Sturgeon alludes to in her memoir explained

The former first minister will release her memoir, Frankly, next week but has already set tongues wagging with advance extracts from the book

Well my take is that people on their income don"t really live in new-build estates with loads of neighbours like a Scottish version of Brookside, that more than anything feels fake to me, I was born in the same town as her, my cousins went to the same High School as she did, her lifestyle is basically an open secret in that area, nobody really cares though, it is the feeling that she was out to line her pockets rather than liberate Scotland from Tory rule that will annoy people more than anything.

her lifestyle is basically an open secret in that area, nobody really cares though,

  • yes, I'm not Scottish but I assumed that voters wouldn't mainly care whether their leader was living a straight or gay lifestyle, but they would care somewhat if she were lying (and obviously about the financial misdeeds). I understand she might have felt some overseas governments might discriminate, but it still seems odd to lie to the extent of a fake marriage.

I suppose they may well have a close alliance politically even if not romantically and it's clearly benefited both...

I don’t think the closing ranks and throwing him to the wolves is necessarily about protecting her at this point.

Shes finished in politics and with the SNP. There’s no comeback from this.

However, in the 12 years that cover the time he’s been convicted over there were other leaders, treasurers, multiple finance and audit committees, and others. Multiple other people who should have had oversight of what he was doing, who should have been protecting the finances, and who didn’t.

The focus being on “what did NS know?” stops the questions about Colin Beattie, John Swinney, Alex Salmond, all of those on the finance committees - which is very convenient for them. Especially the ones still involved in politics.

Injunctions, super injunctions perhaps...

There was also an odd story about her chucking an iron out through a window at some hotel while having a barney with someone, possibly another close female friend.

I look forward to the mini-series telling her whole sorry tale when it is inevitably made at some point in the future.

If you can’t see why a legal background is useful on a finance and audit committee, who are there to ensure the party is following the law as well as making sure the sums add up, then it’s a pointless discussion.

There's none so blind as those who will not see.

Shoola · Yesterday 21:01

If you had to hide the fact that you were an embezzler from your spouse, you would have to be careful about the things you spent your money on. Buying an expensive, large camper van plus the cars would be very high risk and likely to provoke some questions (regardless of the type of marriage It was). It does suggest he wasn't a man who needed to keep secrets from his wife.
