Mayonnaise in a jar... you're a psychopath?

Squeezy is the only acceptable form.

OP posts:

I find Heinz really eggy - even more than homemade. I’ve seen Heinz in a jar.

Can’t beat beans on toast with a big dollop of Hellman’s (from a jar) in the middle 😋

beeble347 · 22/05/2026 19:52

One of the most (vanilla) psychopathic things I've seen was a programme years ago about cheapskates.

This woman was recommending putting supermarket own brand mayonnaise on your face instead of spending money on a moisturiser. She went bright red after doing it and was still singing its praises!

TheignT · 22/05/2026 19:54

I buy whichever is on offer. Not sure what my diagnosis is.

Concerned at the number of people mentioning Hellman's as their preferred brand.
Heinz all the way!

I will try the Polish one though, and point taken about single-use plastic. The wobbly texture of Hellman's from a jar gives me the heebie jeebies and I don't think Heinz comes in jars.

How long does homemade keep for? I'd be the only one eating it so it would be wasteful to make if it doesn't keep for long.

I'm actually quite excited for you OP. You'll never look back once you've tried Polish mayo. Jars all the way. Pah to Hellmans and Heinz.

Flomingho · 22/05/2026 20:10

The jars a better value. It is impossible to get everything out of the squeeze bottles.

My Korean mayonnaise is squeezy, my French is in a jar. I think that means I am well-balanced!

Where are you getting French mayo, post-Brexit?!

Arlanymor · 22/05/2026 20:25

Tesco, Sainsburys, Ocado... I can also buy Polish mayonnaise if I want!

DefiantRabbit9 · 22/05/2026 20:27

I think you're a bit looney if you like mayonnaise.

I can’t seem to find the good French stuff anywhere these days 😭

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 22/05/2026 21:54

Mass produced mayonnaise is an abomination. The only exceptions are the ones made with just olive oil, egg yolks, vinegar and seasonings and they are v expensive and only come in jars. I buy the M&S one and a Hunter & Gatherer one from Ocado. Both are absolutely delicious but the down side of the natural ingredients is that they go,off much quicker than I can eat them.

Lol at my writing this - as a girl growing up in Ireland the only salad dressing available was Heinz's salad cream. I loved it back then but I wouldn't thank you for it now.

LarksAscending · 22/05/2026 22:58

Loads gets wasted using a squeeze. With glass I can get it all and then I can reuse the jar or recycle it and it’s not yet more plastic on the earth.

tanqueray10 · Yesterday 02:26

Mayo in squeezy bottles tastes really weird to me. Can definitely tell the difference between plastic and glass!

echt · Yesterday 03:07

Squeezy mayo containers are just a way for the buyer to pay for stuff they cannot use, nor can they clean the wretched thing out.

The manufacturers must be laughing about the former.

Newnewcoffee · 22/05/2026 08:35

My son in law showed me how to put squeezy bottle in one end of a double oven glove with cap end inserted first. Then twirl in an upright circle. The vortex I think it’s called pushes mayo to cap end.
after hearing some horror stories,l I only do this outside because I don’t want clear up the mess it potentially might make

but it works well

and if jars weren’t so expensive, I definitely buy buying them

The price per kilo is the same in jars and squeeze tubs. Jar mayo is only expensive if you buy a fancy one or are daft enough to buy Hellmans instead of supermarket own brand.

We use Aldi for egg mayo, costs under £1 for a big jar and the yellow allioli from Home Bargains which is also under £1.

OFiddleDeeDee · Yesterday 05:49

I make my own so I have no preference on store bought.

But, when I did buy it, I hated when I got to the last bit in the jar because I always managed to get it on my knuckles when trying to get it out!

The squeezy is just as bad, for making one fight to get the last bit out, but I did learn how to take the lid off to grab what was left.

Love me some full fat Hellman's when I've had a drink, though, and inhibitions are low!

Plastic though

All our mayonnaise jars are plastic here anyway.

Mayo on chips is amazing and even better on cheesy chips

Isn't it the traditional way to eat them?
I got one further and dip my Macca chips in my ice cream 🍨 sundae.

Chickadee001 · Yesterday 16:52

Am I the only one who saws it in half with a serrated knife to scrape the last bits out of the wretched thing?!

Yup I thought so!😂

NamelessNancy · 21/05/2026 21:54

Yep. Polish mayonnaise is a game changer. If you try this and still prefer squeezy crap I'm afraid it's you who is the psychopath.

Agree and happy to be branded a psychopath accordingly.

CurlewKate · Yesterday 16:58

I always need jars-so it’s jars for me!

nonmerci99 · Yesterday 16:59

Nah, you’re the psychopath for needing a little squirty bottle to use mayonnaise. Are you a three year old??

/sarcasm 😅

Squirrel60 · Yesterday 17:01

I'm killing myself laughing here!

I'm a psychopath!

ThisSunnyBea - I absolutely agree with you!

MrListerSir · Yesterday 17:07

Apologies OP, I realise I'm a total freak - I like all sauces in glass jars as they taste better. (They probably don't - but for some reason I've got it in my head that they do!) Mayo isn't so bad as you can spoon it out, but ketchup is a PITA!
