Mayonnaise in a jar... you're a psychopath?

Squeezy is the only acceptable form.

I agree that with bottles you end up with quite a bit left that you can’t get out which is really frustrating. But I voted YANBU because people double dip into jars and I’ve seen grim bits of god knows what along with what looks like bits of tuna in other people’s jars 🤢. But then I also think crumbs in butter is a crime (A lesser crime than tuna in mayo jars but still)

Jellybelly80 · 22/05/2026 10:12

Salad cream all the way in this house.

its the stuff real psychopaths are made of!

MeanwhileinGilead · 22/05/2026 10:16

Who uses mayonnaise? 🤢 Haven't you heathens heard of Miracle Whip? 😇

stargirl27 · 22/05/2026 10:23

i make it or buy it in a glass jar - the m&s olive oil mayo. try to avoid plastic waste where i can. also banging out the end of the squeezy ones does my head in.

Error404FucksNotFound · 22/05/2026 10:25

I prefer jars because I can repurpose them after.

BashfulClam · 22/05/2026 10:29

A jar is better as you get all the mayonnaise out and it’s not cheap. So use your switch bottle but it’s a waste.

InterestedDad37 · 22/05/2026 10:34

The best answer would be a squeezy jar 🤔 💡 (runs off to the inventing shed)

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/05/2026 10:36

I hate squeezy mayonnaise.
Polish, in jars, is the way to go.
Or homemade.

Fluffybuns88 · 22/05/2026 10:38

I make my own 🤣 I'm not paying shop prices when I can blend some oil, chickpea water, vinegar and salt for 30 seconds and I have mayo.

Worralorra · 22/05/2026 10:47

I make mine, so it’s a glass jar, and I have a silicone jar scraper for getting the last bit out…

Recipe: add all ingredients to a large glass jar and blend using a stick blender - keeps for 2 weeks in fridge.

1 large egg
1.5 tsp white wine vinegar, plus 5 drops (Aspalls)
1.5 tsp lemon juice, plus 3 drops
0.5 tsp fine Himalayan pink salt
0.5 tsp caster sugar (rounded tsp)
0.5 tsp Colmans mustard powder (rounded tsp)
a pinch of Cayenne pepper
218ml pure groundnut or vegetable oil

This is the closest flavour I could get to one of the top brands, and costs very little to make…

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 22/05/2026 10:59

No the jar is good because when it’s almost finished you can make salad dressing straight in the jar and get all the last bits - plus making it in jar saves on washing up.

krustykittens · 22/05/2026 12:39

My husband buys the squeezy bottle, cuts it in half when it is running low, but if there is more to be scraped out of it he carefully puts it back in the fridge balanced carefully so it looks like a whole bottle, which then falls apart in my hands and on the floor when I grab it to make a sandwhich. THAT is a psychopath.

ridingfreely · 22/05/2026 12:53

The new squeezy bottles are an absolute nightmare - you squeeze and they stay that way and then you can’t get anymore out
I flipping hate them

LTB 😊

minipie · 22/05/2026 13:26

I buy naice French mayonnaise with a bit of mustard in it. Delicious and comes in wide neck glass jar so it’s easy to spoon out and use a spatula to get the last bits out.

Squeezy white stuff is not proper mayonnaise IMO.

GooGooMuckMuck · 22/05/2026 13:28

Tastes better from a jar

krustykittens · 22/05/2026 13:50

grumpygrape · 22/05/2026 13:23

LTB 😊

I think I could do far worse and still find a sympathetic jury.....

Littledidsheknow · 22/05/2026 13:54

Make it in a few minutes with oil and soya milk… no plastic needed!

Ablondiebutagoody · 22/05/2026 13:58

I dunno. Anything squeezy from Lidl comes out at huge pressure at a completely random angle. Goes everywhere.

You shouldn't have married him then... 😉🤣

MotherWol · 22/05/2026 14:09

You’ve clearly never had good mayo - Winiary Majonez in a glass jar from the Polish section is the best, accept no substitute

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 22/05/2026 14:11

I den’t like the texture of the mayo in sqeezing bottles so I always buy a jar.

CeciliaMars · 22/05/2026 14:13

It’s so hard to get the last 30% out of the squeeze plastic bottle!

Pompelly · 22/05/2026 18:17

Concerned at the number of people mentioning Hellman's as their preferred brand.
Heinz all the way!

I will try the Polish one though, and point taken about single-use plastic. The wobbly texture of Hellman's from a jar gives me the heebie jeebies and I don't think Heinz comes in jars.

How long does homemade keep for? I'd be the only one eating it so it would be wasteful to make if it doesn't keep for long.

I've had the Heinz one in a glass jar before, it's quite a distinctive shape. The polish one is definitely our preference now though - delicious!
