How much would you guess I earn?

I took redundancy from a very corporate job a few years ago. Very respectable job title with a big company.

I decided to have a go at home dog boarding. So I look after dogs in my home for people who don’t like kennels. I also do a bit of doggie day care. It’s all just in my house.

It obviously doesn’t carry the same respect that my corporate job did! You don’t need any qualifications.

If you had to guess, what would you think I earn a month?

Not a clue but I suspect more than some people might imagine, I know someone who does it and it’s pretty lucrative for her (she also offers grooming alongside boarding and day care) and loves her job. She said she now earns almost as much as she did in her former professional role and just loves it so much more.
Good for you op if it’s lucrative for you too,
people spend a lot of money on their dogs to make sure they’re happy!

I'm going 3k a month - the dog business isnt cheap, if the latest season of Amandaland is anything to go by

Dogladyloveswine · 12/05/2026 22:32

Guesses are from £600 to £7000 a month! That’s quite a difference!

A friend cat sits in London. She gets £100 per night. For one cat. She then visits and feeds 2 other cats and gets £60 per cat per visit. She’s earning mad money!!

Ineffable23 · 12/05/2026 22:33

£50 per dog per day for boarding, 28 days a month at 3 dogs per day would be £4200. So somewhere around that - maybe you charge more or take fewer or more dogs or work fewer days.

FlowerSticker · 12/05/2026 22:34

£3500 a month

DontbesorrybeGiles · 12/05/2026 22:35

Well, another poster who took redundancy and turned to dog home boarding and was interested to know what people thought she was earning per month had the following to say:

”My best month I’ve earned over £6k. My lowest about £2k. My overheads are very low. Licence is £120, insurance is the same. Owners provide all the food. I have no commuting costs as I wfh.”

WhosThatGirI · 12/05/2026 22:36

£2500

£60 for a cat visit! How long does she stay for this visit???

Some of the guesses are making Holidays4Dogs look cheap - this would be what I’d base an estimate on if I CBA, factoring that you probably won’t have a booking every day of the month. Does depend if you’re taking multiple dogs even if they’re not from the same household, which would be a no-no for me.
