How many eggs for an omelette?

I use 2 but I've just seen someone make an omelette for themselves, 1 person, with 6 😶

How many do you use?

2 for me or DS2 (10), 3 for DH, 4 for DS1 (13) as a ‘light snack’.

busyd4y · 05/05/2026 17:01

Depends on how hungry I am, what I'll be having with it, how many eggs I have, is that unusual?

Call me a rebel but I don't have strict life rules on ommlettes

PurpleLovecats · 05/05/2026 17:02

I always use 2.

GasPanic · 05/05/2026 17:02

Depends on how many I have to use up before they go out of date.

PeloMom · 05/05/2026 17:03

2-3 depends on how hungry I am

Piglet89 · 05/05/2026 17:03

3

Hatty65 · 05/05/2026 17:04

Definitely 3. I'd be hungry with just two eggs.

Although DS will probably use 6.

Snorlaxo · 05/05/2026 17:05

2 or 3 depending on what other stuff I’m adding to or eating with the omelette.

Arlanymor · 05/05/2026 17:05

Depends on how hungry you are and what you will be having it with. Two if I am putting other stuff into it, like ham and cheese. Three if it's plain and usually then I will have it with a salad to give it a bit of variety.

Me too. 3 with toast if I'm proper hungry

Ablondiebutagoody · 05/05/2026 17:07

For breakfast I would use at least 4. A more substantial meal, 6.

2 would be tiny!

TheCountessofLocksley · 05/05/2026 17:10

2eggs here!
how thick are these 6egg omelettes? I was taught that an omelette is a light dish and as thin as knife blade (my cookery teacher was French).

tinyspiny · 05/05/2026 17:12

3 large eggs

Simonjt · 05/05/2026 17:13

For me six, for my husband four, for the kids two.

Moveoverdarlin · 05/05/2026 17:14

4 for me.

Gingerkittykat · 05/05/2026 17:14

three

They’re fine long after they’re out of date!

westcott · 05/05/2026 17:15

2 but lots of fillings

Bourbondunker · 05/05/2026 17:15

6 eggs is a quiche !

Freshstartyear25 · 05/05/2026 17:17

2 for me, 4 for DH.

AnnaQuayRules · 05/05/2026 17:18

Two for me. I can't bear really big omelettes.

Same here.

1 to go in a breakfast wrap.

2-3 for an omelette as part of a meal with some or all of toast, beans, potato waffles.

4-6 in a tortilla, depending on how many potatoes/leftover chips it's to go with. This might do two meals, maybe not

8 if a big oven omelette with peppers, bacon bits, mushrooms whatever, again likely two meals.

I wouldn't be shocked by someone eating a 6 egg omelette in one go, it's about 400-500 calories max on it's own, so quite a light meal.

We use about 2 dozen eggs a week, quite a few going in omelettes and there's only two of us.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 05/05/2026 17:19

My chickens lay little eggs and I use one to make an omelette. No wonder I’m ravenous a short while after it. I’ll up my game to two from now on 😝

weareallcats · 05/05/2026 17:20

Always 3 large eggs for an omelet or scrambled eggs - only ever 2 fried or boiled eggs though. Not sure why, it just feels right. I do 12 - 15 for a frittata!

Edited to add that obviously I don’t eat the whole frittata myself!

Bjorkdidit · 05/05/2026 17:21

Just seen your user name. Is that why you're shocked at someone eating a six egg omelette in one go?
