How many eggs for an omelette?

I use 2 but I've just seen someone make an omelette for themselves, 1 person, with 6 😶

How many do you use?

2 for a child. 3 for an adult

One egg serves a family of 7 with a cherry tomato and a mushroom each.

A whole cherry tomato and a whole mushroom EACH?! Pure gluttony.

Madarch · 05/05/2026 19:53

2 usually, but 3 if I'm REALLY hungry.

Riapia · 05/05/2026 19:53

Depends on the size of the pan, surely?

pitchblackromance · 05/05/2026 20:04

6 - but I have it a meal not just a snack and normally right after a workout

2-3 depends on how hungry I am

Yes.

clearlyy · 05/05/2026 20:21

2 or 3 depending. If it’s just a plain omelette then 3, if I put spinach and cheese in it, 2.

ZenNudist · 05/05/2026 20:23

2 eggs per person

PitterPattered · 05/05/2026 20:23

Weirdly for omelettes 2 is enough for me but for scrambled eggs I need 3 to feel properly full.

2eggs here!
how thick are these 6egg omelettes? I was taught that an omelette is a light dish and as thin as knife blade (my cookery teacher was French).

They're chunky! I'm not cooking for Gordon Ramsay so I'm not bothered about the technical definition of an omelette. Now, if Gordon walks in and starts screaming at me about it, I might change my mind! 😄

solvendie · 05/05/2026 20:40

One whole with 2 additional egg whites

Eggs definitely disappear when you scramble them. 2 boiled eggs seems plenty, 2 scrambled eggs seems like a total waste of time.

2 is the correct number. If you want 3 then make another one and eat half.

Surely that depends on your pan? 🤔

RedRosie · 05/05/2026 21:13

Two in a small pan, after frying off a green pepper, some chilli and a spring onion. A little cheese then folded over. Served with toast. Food of the gods.

DilemmaDelilah · 06/05/2026 06:20

2 for me, and I do like my food! I definitely couldnt eat a 6 egg omelette and would struggle to eat a 3 egg omelette. However for scrambled eggs at least 3, and sometimes 4 - they don't seem to go as far.

I also find that with potatoes.... you need more for mash than you do for roasted or boiled. Anyone else?

PersephonePomegranate · 06/05/2026 06:22

Two, but I tend to eat them for breakfast or lunch rather than dinner.

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 06/05/2026 07:07

It dpends on the size of the eggs, if they're from a mixed size box 3 or 4. Extra large are signifiantly bigger so normally 2.

LadyVioletBridgerton · 06/05/2026 07:14

Depends how big you want the omelette 🤷‍♀️ When my brother in law was about 14 his budgie laid an egg and he made an omelette out of it…according to DH it was tiny and would have barely fed a Barbie 😂

WhatAMarvelousTune · 06/05/2026 07:28

2 is my standard number of eggs for omelette, scrambled eggs.

Not only would 6 be too many for me, doesn’t it make the omelette horribly thick? I’m trying to imagine my folded over cheesy omelette being 3 times as thick and it doesn’t appeal at all.

durdledoris · 06/05/2026 07:31

3 or it's too thin!

I’m guessing you’d use a bigger pan for a 6 egg omelette than for one with fewer eggs so it would potentially be the same thickness as one with 3?

I’m a bit rubbish at making them so I only have them rarely and use 2 eggs.

OttersOnAPlane · 06/05/2026 07:50

Two if for breakfast, three if for dinner with a salad. Added bits are usually some type of onion/shallots/spring onion and a cheese. Occasionally mushrooms and potato.

Extra large eggs because my hens are a bit old now.

No bread or toast. DH only ever has 2 eggs in his, but with two pieces of thick toast.

Twattergy · 06/05/2026 07:53

2 large eggs pr person

OrangeJellySnakes · 06/05/2026 07:57

3 eggs per omelette or 1 egg and 3 egg whites
