Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

And Heinz Vegetable Salad. Could eat it right now, out of the tin!

dancinfeet · 04/05/2026 15:06

Terry’s Pyramint- dark chocolate and runny mint fondant. Loved these as a kid!

Lindt Crispy. DH tracked some down for me online for Christmas but I have finished them now and need to get back on the dark web for another fix.

Dark web 😂

What was the snack that was little pizza slices that had stuff on top of them - they were sort of sharp and definitely processed, am I making that up?

Highland Toffee (although the Oor Wullie one isn't bad) and proper Milky Way with the darker nougat.

Terrys Pyramint

Oh yes!!! Loved those so much!

Fry's 5 fruit flavoured chocolate bars...different fruit flavour in each segment. They still make the mint ones.

Lemon flavoured cornetto type ice cream were lush.

Tomato cup a soup but they weren't a powder, they were like a puree (wet) consistency in 4 little plastic boxes (like a pat of butter) that were so lovely.

Big choc biscuits...think they had 'dundee' stamped in the biscuit. Always had one of those on a sunday night (after having a bath) with a cup of cocoa...

Cigarette sweets...sticks of white sugary candy with a red end in a box similar to a packet of cigarettes 🤣

clareykb · 04/05/2026 15:12

I moaned a lot to my husband about missing ice magic and turns out whilst you can't get it in the original cool bottles you can get essentially the same from m&s it's called "cracked shell" He got me some for my 43rd birthday 😂

And I still miss a Cadburys Cabana,

Im also missing the ‘Delta’ snacks on this thread. I loved them and had forgotten all about them.

Cabana was Rowntrees. They made them at their factory in my hometown. My dad worked there 😊

Cluckycluck · 04/05/2026 15:13

Branigans crisps
Fruit club
Citrus polos

SpringPuppie · 04/05/2026 15:14

Drifter bar
Spiral bar
Muller corner yogurt, Mississippi mud pie.

Sooose · 04/05/2026 15:14

I know this is meant to be about foods, but Pear's soap, before they changed the recipe. I could never buy it again after that.

Foods: there are many. Waitrose had amazing non-wheat pasta for a while. spelt penne and buckwheat fusilli. Not expensive and delicious. Sainsbury's is now my regular shop and they have recently stopped stocking Mutti vegan bolognese (I'm not vegan but, boy was it delicious). And Seabrook crisps, both cheaper and nicer than Walkers etc. Okay you can still get those on Ocado...

The worst for me (again off-topic, not food) was Body Shop. They original range of shampoos/conditioners/bshower gel were so perfect. I was planning on buying the same 3 or 4 things for my whole life they were that good. Then they sold to venture capitalists, the whole heart was ripped out of the business, the whole range revamped over and over - they lost me on about the third revamp, never to return. A wonderful British business utterly ruined. So it was chamomile or ice blue shampoo, banana conditioner, coconut and lime shower gel. That and the fantastic range of body butters which were so nice, but a bit too expensive to buy all the time.

I know this is meant to be a light-hearted thread, but I honestly am continuing to mourn these products so many years later...

Brannigan’s crisps. Think they did ham and mustard flavour

Yes, these were the best!

HusFand · 04/05/2026 15:14

I only have one word on these threads. Spira. I am hoping that others will have said the same.

deeahgwitch · 04/05/2026 15:15

Oh yes @Bonjovispjs the Burger King Mushroom Double Swiss was delicious!

RamsaySnowsSausage · 04/05/2026 15:15

Linda McCartney used to do a ready meal lasagne and a ready meal spag bol and they each came with a 5" garlic bread pizza thing. They were so good and all I could 'cook' as a baby vegetarian in a family full of carnivores. The ones they do now are not the same.

Seconding Drifters and beef and mustard Brannigans and M&S used to do ready salted squares in a big bag and a pepper and sweetcorn pasta salad which I could combine to make 3-4 meals as a student.

Are walnut whips still around? M&S do a version but they're not great and cost about £27.99 for 3.

Heinz did a chocolate pudding in a tin in the early 2000s, possibly into the 2010s? I often crave it with custard. The other microwave chocolate puddings available these days just don’t taste the same.

Yes, they also had a syrup sponge one, and spotted dick. We always had one after Sunday dinner growing up.

There was also a box of frozen pizza slices in the early 90’s, in a triangle shaped box, with peppers on, not sure what other topping. I loved them.

Oh gosh you've unlocked a memory. My sister and I were in the back of the car going somewhere with our parents and my sister was pretending to smoke one of those - some bloke nearly crashed double taking at her! She was massively bollocked for that haha

Lucozade was wonderful when it was in glass bottles with a cellophane wrapper.

And I feel like it tasted completely different then? It was always the best bit about being off school sick, my grandma turning up with a big glass bottle of Lucozade - it was unthinkable you’d be allowed to have it other than when you were ill!

Love all the nostalgic products and packaging on these threads. My contribution is always the same - Lord Toffingham lollies with the big blob of fudgy caramel in the middle, and Ginster’s Italiano (tomatoey pasta inside a pasty, double carb delight). I could smash two of those right now!

Burger King's mushroom double Swiss
Cabana bars
Panda pops

I am in deep mourning for the mushroom double swiss!
Also raspberry nesquick, chocolate olivers, proper crispy pancakes (the reincarnated ones are a travesty of no flavour at all), toast toppers (ditto), wondermash, Cadbury's border creme eggs (tartan foil and squishy chocolate inside). That's probably enough now!

Fedupoftheshits · 04/05/2026 15:18

For me it’s Phileas Fogg Mignons Morceaux, Sarah Lee Double Chocolate Gateaux and Entermanns Chocolate Fudge Cake

Ooh, loads. From the 80s up until the late 2010s...

Findus crispy pancakes.
Findus french bread pizza.
Findus frozen mousse desserts.
Doner kebab flavour wheat crunchies.
Cheesy nikniks.
Coconut boost bar.
Pizza flavoured cheese strings.
Safeways prawn cocktail sandwich.
In fact just prawns in general used to taste amazing in the late 80s. Now they taste of nothing.
All the fizzy/soft drinks that used to have sugar but now have sweetners, including ribena. Especially Ribena. The strawberry one.
Topic bar. Has that genuinely been discontinued? Was my fave chocolate but not seen one in years.
McDonalds chicken sandwich when it first came out. Now it's vile!
Also McDonald's Pizza.
Two Dogs alcoholic lemonade.
Umbongo. They drink it in the Congo. Think the adverts might have been racist?!

HusFand · 04/05/2026 15:19

Have now read the thread and see there are fellow Spira-lovers. The thing is, even if they reintroduced it now, you just know they would not be the same.😔
