I stand with Jewish people 100%, whether recent arrivals or families who have been living in the UK for centuries.
I had to point out to a friend that Jewishness is an ethnicity, a culture, and not just a religion. There are Jewish atheists, Jewish Christians, etc. as well as Jews practicing Judaism. There are also converts to Judaism, who follow the religion but are of a different ethnicity. There are Jews of pretty much every skin colour, all over the world.
She had assumed that Jew = Israeli or strong connections to Israel, or Jew = supporter of the Israeli government. Wrong.
I had to point out that there are more Jews living outside of Israel than living inside of it. Jews living outside of Israel mostly have zero influence over what the Israeli government does.
Those inside Israel have a tiny amount of influence through voting, but this still doesn’t tell you what the political views of individuals are. And people are allowed to hold different political views. Also, not all Israelis are Jewish.
I find it dispiriting that otherwise educated people do not understand these things!
