Just got this email this morning. Absolutely gutted - my kindle was bought for me by my ds for Christmas 2011 when he was a student- still works perfectly.

Well! After a couple of days of being too scared busy to think about my new Kindle I finally switched it on again last night and there was my latest book. I tapped it and that seemed to make it download and then there were a couple of steps to go through and I got to the start of the book. Phew!

I'm still going to do the housekeeping thing. Part of the difference is that all the books I've ever bought seem to be on this one whereas on the old one I had removed them from the device so the list of books to read was much shorter.

Thank you to everyone for your help and words of wisdom 🤗

I too bit the bullet and purchased a new Kindle and had the same issue with finding books as EVERYTHING was on the home page (rather than the books I had read being in an archive like they were on the old one).

I did a lot of Googling and found out that I needed to create new "Collections" which was much easier to do on a laptop through my Amazon account if you have loads of books which have transferred over.

However, I was about ready to send it back at one point as some of the instructions I found online were not always right (or related to a slightly older gen Kindle) and it was a bit of trial and error to work it out and get set up how I wanted.

The Paperwhite Kids version is on offer at £135 today, so £108 with the 20% code. This is better value than the adult version. Works exactly the same, same hardware/software, free case included, 2 year warranty rather than 1 year. You just need to toggle the kids setting off apparently. Think I'll get one of those.

Is yours definitely one of the versions no longer being supported? I thought mine would be due to age but when I looked up devices on my account it’s not

How do you find out which model yours is? I’ve had mine for ever, with 100s of books on it, but haven’t a clue about the model, except that it’s one with automatic lighting, which the earlier ones weren’t, I know, since dh was given one and never used it. I gave it to a skint colleague!

I bought this today with a further £5 discount for trading in my old Kindle. Apparently they’ve tightened up the ad free on the kids version so if you switch the child mode off, you get ads unless you pay £10 to remove them.

I don’t think there will be a better offer though. I’ve had price alerts for all the Paperwhites since I let the Kids offer which was live when the initial email went out slip because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, and this is the first time since then it’s been on offer. Probably not by accident, it’s not likely that Prime Day will be before the discount code expires.

RebelMoon · 13/05/2026 19:09

@toastofthetown agree, I've been keeping an eye on it for the same reason and this is the first sniff of a discounted price for weeks. There's a possibility they might discount the adult version ahead of father's day but it's unlikely to be cheaper than this.

I'm not trading my old one in for a fiver though. It's worth more than that to me.

KarmenPQZ · 13/05/2026 20:52

The non kids version was down to £124 (with ads) in March tho so I reckon between now and June 20 - when the coupon expires - they’ll be another discount.

im not blinking first Amazon! I’m excited for a new kindle but I’m willing to hold out for the bank holiday weekend at least!

I actually got the email today. Bought mine in 2010/2011.
