Seen a story on various ‘news’ outlets today about a woman apparently being hunted for by police for defecating on a shelf in The Range and leaving. I’m not linking the article because I think it’s terrible but there is a clear photo of the woman in question.

Hundreds of horrible and jokey comments. No empathy or consideration that this could have been someone with any number of cognitive issues and/or digestive disease. Now their photo is plastered all over social media. How humiliating for them and the family. Is this what we have become as a society? Does this actually pass for news and would police resources not be better spent elsewhere? Honestly I find it cruel, grim and shocking.

I don't agree with people posting awful comments, because like you said, you don't know why this lady pooed on a shelf... but the simple fact is she is in the press because the police are looking for her. And if they want a chance of finding her, then they need to post a photo.
If she was a high risk missing person, then her photo would also be in the press.

This is not a high risk situation and I can’t understand why the police would be so desperate to locate her over something like this. My family member works in a large supermarket and this sort of thing happens more often than you’d think especially in elderly people. You don’t see their photo plastered over the 6pm news.

It seems like it’s being done intentionally to humiliate which is disgraceful. I cant think of a single reason anyone would do this unless they were unwell either mentally or physically. Do we ridicule those people now?

Some people have a shitting fetish and get off in shitting in random places. Maybe she has previous for shitting in supermarkets 🤷‍♀️ The fact the police have released a photo suggests they have reason to believe that it was intentional.

And even if she is mentally ill or has a health condition or whatever, that’s not really a good reason to let her go around leaving turds on shop shelves. Regardless of the reason, it’s a behaviour that needs to be stopped.

Police obviously want to trace her for a reason, perhaps just so her welfare can be checked, there is concern for her wellbeing, or perhaps because this is the latest in a string of deposits and it needs to be resolved.

I mean you never can tell but she didn’t particularly look like someone who would do this. She looked fairly old, well dressed etc. Obviously that doesn’t mean it wasn’t intentional or anti social but it wouldn’t have been my immediate conclusion by looking at her. However it’s so ridiculous and odd that the police have released a photo that maybe you’re right and there is more to it.

You never can tell. We had a phantom shit smearer at work years ago and it turned out to be one of the women who was in a sort of middle management role, always well turned out, etc. It was really bizarre.

You do realise this is true of many criminals right? The prison population has a significantly higher rate of mental illness and learning disabilities, and lower literacy rates and IQs than your average person on the street.

I guess you never know. She might be someone who frequents the store and has got into an altercation with the store and this is the punishment she’s giving them.

I doubt it’s a physical illness as it’s preferable to shit your trousers than to shit on the store shelf.

I watched a video yesterday where an older woman who was well spoken and well dressed put her hand in the tip jar in a cafe and stole the money. Then pretended she couldn't understand the waitress because she had a foreign accent when she confronted her. She totally denied it even though it was as clear as day on camera.

If I was the person who had to pick up this mucky woman's poo I'd want her named and shamed as well. It's disgusting.

She should go to jail for this. Poo on shelves is not something retails staff should have to deal with.

She is causing criminal damage and doing something gross.

Until she is questioned about it, it can not be ascertained that it is due to MH or cognitive decline.

In what kind of world is it acceptable to shit on a shelf in a store, and NOT acceptable to want to find the person who shit on a shelf in a store?

No matter what your possible digestive issues, you don’t presumably just drop your kecks and shit in the middle of a store. And if this person does have cognitive issues which have led to something this extreme surely it’s only right that the police want to then do a safeguarding check to see if they are being well cared for?

I worked in a supermarket for years along with many people I know from that time in various stores and I never ever came across this. If someone was desperate they nearly always have a loo and they wouldn’t use a shelf they’d likely leave or soil themselves. This isn’t that.

Well they’ve found who she is I guess as they’re no longer asking for assistance to find her.

she did not look 'old' to me. 'Older' yes, but 'old' no.

But I agree, she looked very 'average/normal' middle aged woman shopping. So I assume she is mentally unwell & does need finding do someone can check if she needs help (or arresting).

It might be high risk as it is bizarre behaviour but not news worthy. Surely they could share the photo without the story attached. No better than the olden days when vulnerable people were paraded and shamed. Shocking that this hasn’t changed.

It seems like everyone I know who has worked in large retail shops has a story of someone shitting in the aisle. Usually teenagers doing it for a laugh. I know of at least 2 classmates who did it in my school. It's horrible and I feel for the staff member who have to clean it up.

Edit - I just looked up the woman discussed here. She looks about 60. Surely there is a medical reason in this case?

If you can’t stop yourself from pooing on a shelf then arguably you shouldn’t be free to roam around the streets. There’s no excuse for that behaviour what so ever and as I say if you’re THAT cognitively impaired then you should have a full time carer.
