To think this is fucking dreadful

Seen a story on various ‘news’ outlets today about a woman apparently being hunted for by police for defecating on a shelf in The Range and leaving. I’m not linking the article because I think it’s terrible but there is a clear photo of the woman in question.

Hundreds of horrible and jokey comments. No empathy or consideration that this could have been someone with any number of cognitive issues and/or digestive disease. Now their photo is plastered all over social media. How humiliating for them and the family. Is this what we have become as a society? Does this actually pass for news and would police resources not be better spent elsewhere? Honestly I find it cruel, grim and shocking.

If you can’t stop yourself from pooing on a shelf then arguably you shouldn’t be free to roam around the streets. There’s no excuse for that behaviour what so ever and as I say if you’re THAT cognitively impaired then you should have a full time carer.

Ah yes, of course. Because the switch from 'able to function' to 'has/needs full time carer' happens overnight for cognitively impaired people. 🙄

Seriously, get a clue and get some compassion while you're at it. Of course this is gross and should never happen, but the sheer grossness of it should serve as some kind of pointer that this is a vulnerable person in need of care that she isn't getting. No one willingly and lucidly does something like this.

AgnesX · 07/04/2026 16:47

It's not news. It is appalling though. Her demeanor doesn't look as if she's distressed. If she was then surely she would have asked to used the facilities or left in a hurry. As a result it seems to be all about shame the woman.

People's behaviour seems to have gone right through the floor lately and being on CCTV doesn't bother them.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 07/04/2026 16:56

She wasn’t embarrassed to shit on a shelf in public, I doubt she’ll be embarrassed about the furore she’s caused.

H3342 · 07/04/2026 16:32

I need to know more about this @Clefable !!

How did they find out who it was? Did she admit it? Was she fired? Did she show any embarrassment??!

Hercule Pooirot solved the case.

I agree. I’m not excusing it and I feel for the staff who had to deal with it, it’s very obviously not ok.

My point was that unless there is something else going on (prolific shit smearer, concerns about safety - either of which I feel might have been mentioned in the article) it’s just not a very nice thing to have publicised in national press. And a ridiculous waste of police resources.

Apparently questioning the ethics of humiliating someone in this way makes me ridiculous and a virtue signaller. I’m not really bothered, it’s nicer being nice.

Would you like to work in a shop and clean shit from the shelves?

If this woman gets away with it, as sure as night follows day, others will think it is ok because that's the way things go-you know like shoplifting. Once upon a time, there was not an epidemic of shoplifting but the more it is ignored, the more it emboldens others to give it a go.

Frankly, if you can't go out and about without having to squat down in a public shelf and shit and then leave it steaming there, then you are a menace and should stay at home.

My right-and the right of the public and staff-to not have to encounter this is worth much more than the right of the shitter. And long may may that be the case!

How do you like those onions!

Offherrockingchair · 07/04/2026 17:50

TVP took the post down that included a pic and asked others to do the same.

murasaki · 07/04/2026 17:55

I actually think we need a bit more shaming of appalling behaviour. Same with the dine and dashers.

OonaStubbs · 07/04/2026 17:58

The poo shelf woman is the new cat bin lady.

JulietteHasAGun · 07/04/2026 18:53

If it was an incontinence issue she’d shit her pants.

she has either pulled her trousers and underwear down in the store and positioned her arse over the shelf and crimped one out. Or brought one with her she’d prepared earlier and left it on the shelf.

So it was at my first job, I was only 18, and she was in a diff department but it had been going on for a while, there were notes up in the toilet from management and stuff, then one day she just wasn’t there. No one from above ever said what had happened, but obviously word spreads among the staff (no pun intended) and there was no more shit smearing or notes in toilet after. I really want to know what was going on and if she got another job! This was pre proper social media so once she left she was just gone, no easy way to trace where she had gone. Wonder if she left a pooper trail.

That same workplace btw had a guy who stood up in the middle of the shift and said ‘I’ve shit myself and have to go home’ and just left. He just came back the next day and carried on as normal.

My friend who I made at that workplace and I still talk about it 20+ years later Grin

Thames Valley Police I think

Offherrockingchair · 07/04/2026 20:51

Yes, Thames Valley Police.

Fluffyholeysocks · 07/04/2026 20:54

I save my sympathy for the poor person who has to clear it up.

TheBlueKoala · 07/04/2026 21:02

I have got IBS and once I pood myself in a shop. Hastily left without buying anything. Must have looked really suspicious. I would never ever have pulled my pants down and done this on a shelf. Wtf!! No consideration for the staff. @suchgreatheights2 I don't have much empathy for her..

B1anche · 07/04/2026 21:06

H3342 · 07/04/2026 20:36

Oh thank you! That makes sense!

RightOnTheEdge · 07/04/2026 22:02

I’m not really bothered, it’s nicer being nice.

Yeah, not really bothered about the shop staff are you? More worried about the woman who did the shit than the poor staff who had to clean it up and dispose of it.
Strange idea of being nice.

HeyThereDelila · 07/04/2026 22:05

YABU. I bet she has form for this. It’s disgusting, antisocial and not something working class, low paid staff should have to deal with.

Itsmetheflamingo · 07/04/2026 22:07

I’ve also seen this loads and I also don’t understand why it’s news as surely it’s not actually uncommon?

Elementary, my dear Watson, this is clearly a case of bowel play

MermaidofRye · 07/04/2026 22:41

Well, I don't know where in the world your neck of the woods is @Itsmetheflamingo but if I were you I would seriously consider moving.

It's pretty uncommon where I am but then maybe I just live in a more civilised part of the world.

Actually, that said best stay where you are. The last thing we need is people coming to this neighbourhood who, like yourself, think that shitting on a shop shelf is uncommon!

Come on, do us a favour and tell us all where you've see "loads" of people shitting in a shop? It must be a literal shithole.

VivaciousCurrentBun · 07/04/2026 22:47

I was in a shop a couple of years ago and someone had shat on the floor, the queue dispersed, staff apologised and then said you would be surprised how often it happens.

This is quite a poor attempt at trying to shame my background and home, but I am happy to explain more.

my best friend had a poo incident in the Volvo dealership she worked at in Oxford city 10 years ago.

i worked in boots in Cambridge city centre 20 years ago and we had a public poo incident

when I was at university (bath) someone left a poo on staircase in the dance block.

i don't know anyone who currently works in retail and neither do I have uk wide experience of a public business. So based on my very limited life experience, it doesn’t appear to be the rare unicorn you have suggested.

im sure you think Oxford Cambridge and bath are shit holes (boom boom) but you’ll struggle to find people who agree

I hope you feel good attacking my character and background rather than engaging with what I said, but it does feel a rather pointless contribution.

MermaidofRye · 08/04/2026 00:34

And, @Itsmetheflamingo , tell me this...did they leave their shit for someone else to clean up.

I'm not trying to shame you-as you very well know- so you can stop with the "poor me" act but I can tell you this...you are very unfortunate to have been involved in three public shitting incidents. Of course, it may be common for you-you say it's not "uncommon" -but neither I nor any of my friends and family have had your misfortune.

How awful for you! It's a bloody shame for you. That said, have a good look at the photograph of the The Range Shitting Woman-there's a good chance you may know her.

BTW, I notice you spell "bath" with a lower case letter, so are you referring to an actual bath, people shitting in the bath? I suppose shitting in a bath at home is better than shitting in a car dealership or The Range.
