To take up a bigger table than needed in a cafe?

To try to use a bigger table in a cafe?

I know it’s not always possible, such as during busy times, and I would never ‘hog’ a larger table for myself.

But during quiet times… such as right now! I’m in a cafe on my own with 2 dogs and I’ve sat myself at a 4 seater table.

I actually hate 2 seater ones. They are just too small and I get claustrophobic with all the clutter of cutlery, condiments, sides of veg etc.

I like to spread out!

Yes! That petition to parliament with 450 signatures is a sign of things to come …..😆

Well complaints have worked locally so fingers crossed the tide will turn elsewhere.

So you do take a massive doberman into a cafe then or, like many more responsible dog owners have the coffee and butty as a takeaway?

Weird as another poster is stating no coffee shops around her are dog free 🤷‍♀️

So you think it was complaining about dogs that made them change?

Not sure why you’re so animated about the issue then? Just carry on complaining and I’m sure they’ll all change for you 👍

And yes I do take a “massive” Doberman into coffee shops, she’s female so not as big as males.

Into dog friendly coffee shops, we’re the owners are pleased with our custom.

I don’t like paper takeaway cups!

It’s strange you decide “responsible” dog owners have takeaways, my local coffee shops and those I’ve visited whilst on holiday are full of people with dogs.

You must deem a lot of dog owners “irresponsible” , we will have to agree to disagree.

6 months that petition was running for. Closed on 450 signatures. Looks like the anti dog lot who started it are the friendless ones!

I agree, less than 3 votes a day!

Dogs shouldn't be in cafes.

Is this a religious point of view?

Doseofreality · 30/03/2026 15:01

You need space because you have two dogs with you.

Dogs are not paying customers.

YABU.

(And I walk straight back out of cafes and restaurants if I see any dogs in there, it’s unhygienic and O don’t want to eat my meal surrounded by animals).

Sounds like the dogs in cafes are a good thing for the rest of us then.

What is going to happen to you if you sit on a seat that a dog has previously sat on?

Disgust is what’s going to happen. I don’t want to sit anywhere a dog’s bare arse has been. If it doesn’t bother you, then surely you have much lower hygiene standards.

I take it you never go in swimming pools, saunas... the sea? People are in there, genitals and all.

I am not bothered because seats are for sitting on. A lot of dog breeds do not touch anything with their rectum when they are sat down due to their anatomy.

Typical dog hater on here though. Obsessed with dog anuses.

ForPlumReader · 31/03/2026 17:41

Was it space for your dogs you were actually looking for? I do get frustrated when dogs take up space and block movement in a cafe (or anywhere else for they matter).

Oh another dig at people that are happy for dogs to be on cafes!

Another one to add to the list of how awful we are 🤣

You lot are sooo lovely!

Of course YANBU if it’s a quiet time and the bigger tables aren’t being used.

As to dogs, I love meeting other people’s dogs, so long as they’re well behaved obviously but those I’ve met in cafes usually are. The biggest one I’ve ever met was a Malamute, we had a very interesting conversation with her owner. Apparently while huskies were strictly ‘outdoors’ dogs who lived with their packmates, the Inuit would have a lovely big Malamute inside the home to provide warmth and calming comfort.

Gloriia · 31/03/2026 18:09

Oh please. Get a takeaway like many considerate, responsible and sensible dog owners manage.

A doberman. Ffs Grin

I love meeting other people's dogs. Ours is well behaved and friendly so loves nothing more than a play in a field or similar. While I and others watch on with takeaway coffees.

No thanks! Are you the cafe police?

A silly entitled person who doesn’t like dogs in cafes FFS! Thinks they make the rules 🤣🤣

So to be clear,

you’re calling me inconsiderate, irresponsible and not sensible? Because I take my well behaved dog into a dog friendly cafe?

Shall I start name calling you?

You’ve also intimated that people in cafes with dogs don’t have friends.

You’re not very nice are you?

Cafes are no place for little dogs let alone a massive doberman. I think you know this really. Many people don't like dogs or even have allergies. Why would you force your doberman on others in such close confines? Do you take it to Tesco too, pop it in the trolley?

I'm very nice thanks. Just don't tolerate inconsiderate, irresponsible dog owners.

Onleemoi · 31/03/2026 20:38

Gloriiiiiia. The cafe owner makes the rules. If the owner allows it, it is literally none of your business. What part of this are you struggling with?

auserna · 31/03/2026 20:41

Egit · 30/03/2026 13:56

Well yesterday i went for a roast with my dh. 2 large plates, 2 coffees, 2 glasses of water, 2 sets of side dishes with veg. Salt, pepper, cutlery pot, sugar bowl. Serviettes…. I hate how cluttered it gets

But you've just said you're on your own...

Oh no @Gloriia really does think she’s the boss of all coffee shops! St @Gloriia patron saint of coffee shops!

Shes’s going to single handed ensure that dogs are banned by all coffee shops!

Those that don’t like dogs or have allergy’s can go too one of the coffee shops you frequent, that do t allow dogs? 🤷‍♀️!

Gloriiiiia you do seem to enjoy proving that you are not a very nice person. Dogs are so much nicer that a lot of humans.

Gloria, I think they’ve got your number.
