What’s wrong with me, hospital clueless

Yesterday at 1pm, I put my 6 month old on the rug with his toys and went for a wee.

As I was walking back I had a sudden severe pain in my right side radiating into my lower back and up to my shoulder, I was in agony.

I called DH who was luckily only on a job 15 mins away, he came straight home and took one look at me and called ambulance, I was shouting out in pain they gave me gas and air and morphine.

I had an emergency CT when dye last night and also have a catheter as lost the ability to wee. Nothing showed on CT, they got me settled on morphine and today I’ve had a transvaginal scan which shows ovaries and womb look normal.

Gynae can’t find a reason so they’ve stopped painkillers and just giving me paracetamol but somethings wrong I feel like somebody’s twisting my insides. The gynae consultant was horrible and said the surgical team will come see me if they think it’s worth it?? So I’m waiting for that if they come.

I’m in so much pain and genuinely scared they’ll send me home not knowing what is wrong with me.

Has anyone has anything similar?

Not had anything similar but stick to your guns and refuse to be discharged until the surgical team see you.

OhBotherSaidPoo · 26/03/2026 15:27

Gosh how scary.

Have you tried running your symptoms through AI as a starter for 10.

Canopop · 26/03/2026 15:27

Have they done blood tests? It’s not kidney stones is it? Are they doing any more scans?

knackeredmumoftwo · 26/03/2026 15:28

I've had a burst ovarian cyst- agony but nothing to see on scans

BillieWiper · 26/03/2026 15:28

Can you do a bowel movement? Could it be a volvulus, which is twisted bowel? It can feel like it's affecting repro organs or bladder etc sometimes? Is your belly very swollen?

Did they scan lower GI?

I'm sorry you're going through this and hope they find out what's wrong x

JulietteHasAGun · 26/03/2026 15:30

Shoulder pain is often referred from gynae/abdominal type area. It’s why you often get shoulder pain after gynae procedures. Are you weeing ok now? Bowels open? Passing wind?

SoloCat · 26/03/2026 15:32

I lost count of the amount of times I went into retention and had to go to A&E for a catheter. Also had severe pain, given morphine too. Nothing showed up in tests and it turned out to be an embedded UTI.
I know how frustrating it can be to have something as painful as you are experiencing and to not be taken seriously. I do hope you get some answers, definitely keep pushing as pp mentioned.

JulietteHasAGun · 26/03/2026 15:32

Have they ruled out gallbladder problems?

winkywanky · 26/03/2026 15:34

I have a friend who had similar pain a couple of months ago and ended up going to A&E. Turned out it was kidney stones. I hope they get to the bottom of it and you feel better soon x

Goldfsh · 26/03/2026 15:34

Nothing to add but sympathy! It sounds terrible! Please don't leave without getting this looked into further.

Godrabbit · 26/03/2026 15:36

This is a kidney stone surely....

Whosthetabbynow · 26/03/2026 15:36

Could it be a trapped nerve? In your spine?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 26/03/2026 15:37

Have they ruled out kidney stones? The pain from that comes on suddenly and is excruciating. My normally stoic DH was on his knees, crying like a baby when he had them.

Yoyokitten · 26/03/2026 15:41

That sounds awful, and really scary.
Did they check for appendicitis ?
Or an ectopic ? I hope they can find what is wrong.💐💐

Mumsgirls · 26/03/2026 15:42

JulietteHasAGun · 26/03/2026 15:32

Have they ruled out gallbladder problems?

Was just going to say that. Mine was as op described and I thought heart attack. Needed gallbladder out. Did you eat any fat before hand, mine was soft cheese, which caused a flare up . Good luck op

Hoardasurass · 26/03/2026 15:47

Another vote for kidney stones as not only do they cause excruciating pain and can stop you from being able to pee

Lubilu02 · 26/03/2026 15:50

Have you had a c section, some times the scar tissue can adhere to other organs?

Just a thought

peasporrige · 26/03/2026 15:52

Could it be ectopic pregnancy - that can cause pain in shoulder ?

They need to rule out gall-bladder problems and kidney issues.

Hope you feel better soon. x

BigBruisedFruit · 26/03/2026 15:52

Sounds like kidney stones or kidney infection maybe? Or maybe a gallbladder issue? Weird they only did a gyne check when it sounds more likely to be a renal or biliary issue.

Parsleyforme · 26/03/2026 15:59

I would assume kidney stones, especially as you can’t pee. I’ve heard they can be very very painful as they move, painful to pass and then pain subsides if it is passed out. Why do they think it’s a uterus issue if it’s affecting your bladder not your vagina?

elm26 · 26/03/2026 16:07

They haven’t entertained anything to do with my gallbladder or kidneys even though I have diarrhoea after every evening meal. I cannot wee and feel like somethings twisting.

Not pregnant, have a 6 month old and finished period 2 days ago, I’m also on contraception. They did dip a pregnancy test as far as I’m aware.

Ive had a few of these they bloody hurt knocks the sweat out of me.

Sensiblesal · 26/03/2026 17:17

I don’t think your pain is gyno.

the back pain & radiating down your leg sounds like sciatica/nerve pain.

the loss of bladder control alongside could be Cauda Equina, thats really serious and could leave you paralysed.

its really hard to get the dr/pretend dr thats ‘helping’ you to listen and understand your symptoms but they need to do a test to at least rule it out

edit sorry re read & saw its pain going to the shoulder. This is more likely gall bladder related. Do you have like radiating pain or feel like you had a heart attack?

either way they need to do more testing

damelza · 26/03/2026 17:27

I'm no doctor, but in my head I see being unable to wee, excruciating pain etc. as some blockage in the urethra/bladder from a kidney stone. Others seem to think this also. How awful for you, kidney stone pain is up there with the worst imaginable.

Non contrast CT, urine test and some other chemical test are the usual diagnostics. I know!

Anyway, as others have said, it could also be gynae, I seem to recall my friend having awful shoulder pain from gas after her hysterectomy. But that may not be the case.

I hope you get some answers. I'd go back and demand an answer. It's not normal to be in such pain.

Cocolapew · 26/03/2026 17:31

My first thought was Cauda Equina too.
