to be appalled by Trump’s comments about learning disabilities?

I probably am being unreasonable since this is a president who starts illegal wars, supports genocide and protects pedophiles.
But today time he is also talking about the 20%+ of his beloved Americans who may have some kind of learning difficulty.

Where will it end? Who will be safe?

He is Vile.

RobinInTheCrabApple · 17/03/2026 20:25

This is nothing new from Trump.

He is a hateful person. Evil. The lowest of the low.

"Republican presidential contender Donald Trump has been criticised for mocking a disabled New York Times reporter."

What’s the tangerine twat said now?

I do not understand how any American with a modicum of intellect could have voted for him. Last week he commented about dead people walking around with their legs blown off. I despair.

x2boys · 17/03/2026 20:35

I wouldn't take much notice of him as he doesn't seem to understand the difference between a learning disability and a learning difficulty
A learning disability is something that affects everything about the person. With if and can range from mild to profound and can have a huge impact on everyday life
Whereas a learning difficulty only impacts a person's ability to learn and is often sonething specific like Dyslexia and is not related to intelligence.

GloiredeDijon · 17/03/2026 20:40

I do agree OP, of course everybody with a modicum of decency and intelligence will condemn Trump and this latest bollocks but I think many of us have outrage fatigue.
Every day another horror.
It becomes rather like commenting that shit stinks.
Trump = nasty, stupid, cruelty. Self explanatory.

BadMrsFrosty · 17/03/2026 20:44

Agree with @GloiredeDijon that we all have outrage fatigue... BUT, still, I try and think what would happen if Keir Starmer made comments like this. He would undoubtedly have to resign pretty quickly, the British public would not put up with it.
Americans on the whole are not pushing back. A statement gets made by a disability support organization and it all gets forgotten 2 days later.

I think America really suffers from not having a Leader of the Opposition who would focus the Democrats.

This is the man who mocked disability and got away with it before he was first elected in 2016. Why are you suddenly surprised now?

GentleHedgehog · 17/03/2026 20:54

I just felt sad when I read what Trump had said and done. I think my feeling is tied in with despair that a man such as him, has enough people supporting him that he can be President. I will never go to America again, even when he's dead and gone his supporters will find another Trump.

TomatoSandwiches · 17/03/2026 20:55

Exactly what about Donald Trump made you think he had any redeeming features or opinions held with any form of empathy and human decency?

likelysuspect · 17/03/2026 20:56

I have no idea why Trump/USA is seen as any different to some completely mad/bizarre republic that we've seen across the world.

Presidents across the world say the most shocking things, he is no different. America is an extremist country.

Its really unhelpful that the bloke then referred to Trump as a 'brain dead moron'

Neither come out of this well but then obviously Trump is worse.

Martymcfly24 · 17/03/2026 20:58

It's the use of the word dumb that pisses me off so much. Dyslexia has nothing to do with intelligence something I try to tell my dyslexic students all the time.

He also referred to the governor as the president multiple times . Frightening.

WhatAMarvelousTune · 17/03/2026 20:58

He’s a cunt. He’s always been a cunt. He’ll always be a cunt.

And it’s sickening how many people praise him for “saying what everyone else is thinking”.

Completely agree with you.

I've spent today researching American owned companies so that I can boycott them. I expect people will say America won't care about my few quid, but I will know.

Who knew American companies own Toblerone, Walkers Crisps and OXO?

Fuck America.

Fast800goingforit · 17/03/2026 21:38

He is appalling.

Catlady1982 · 17/03/2026 21:41

He’s vile. I don’t know how anyone can support him and not feel ashamed of themselves

Papercompany · 17/03/2026 21:41

I loathe him.... His comments about dyslexia are so incredibly ignorant. How can Americans stand by and let him represent them?

The fact that he has no understanding but still insults, derides and belittles makes taking notice of him and the bile he spouts even more important in my mind.

Sadcafe · 17/03/2026 21:47

Yes it’s inappropriate. This man says so many vile, inappropriate, disgusting things though that you end up not actually paying attention , we can only hope the next two and a half years passes quickly

landlordhell · 17/03/2026 21:50

He is an appalling person( not a man) so nothing he says surprises me. He’s the lowest of the low.

KermitTheToad · 17/03/2026 21:50

I am frankly appalled by everything that the orange one says. The blokes a moron.

twentyeightfishinthepond · 17/03/2026 21:52

I read an article in the guardian this week suggesting Trump is pulling the US to fascism more quickly than some of the Eastern European countries are managing. If you remember, Nazis were no fans of disabled people, gay people or people from other races. The only was to stop this us for Americans to stop him, and to be knowledgeable about the real politics of both his critics and likely supporters.
