Stockpile baklava.

You can make it pretty easily.

Seriously, this is unlikely to spread. It might lead to unrest or even civil war in Iran if the leaders are killed. It is very worrying though. For a man who claims to have stopped something like 8 wars, Trump seems to be involved in starting them too.

Read my posts. My partner is away and is definately not.in a safe place. Read before you post.

Yes i am feeling frightened.

My DS has been in some hairy places. I was relieved when those countries were behind him. Your DH will be rerouted to get home. His company will then decide what next

An uneccesary side swipe at ‘retired’ people there. How do you know the demographic of who is posting on this thread? People can be dicks about hoarding and stock piling whatever their age.

Exactly. Many retired people I know live out in the sticks and are afraid of being stranded and not able to get to the local town, to the shops, to the pharmacy and GP, and the hospital if they need to... So they will often make sure their petrol tank is full. They're not doing anything wrong. Just looking after themselves.

IberianLynx · 28/02/2026 22:01

No, I haven’t done anything and don’t have a car so don’t need petrol. Having said that, I tend to get bulk deliveries so currently have 5 x 24 loo rolls and about 12 litres of water in stock…..I will add some tins of veg, fruit, baked bins to my next shop following advice on this thread.

YABU. My DS has just finished a job in Kuwait and his next job will be in Qatar. DD lives in Kuwait right now. While I'm concerned, I'm not unduely worried. Have a look at flight radar and you will see where flights from Asia are re-routing to avoid the ME. Asia is far from the ME and safe right now.

BatchCookBabe · 28/02/2026 22:07

I would ramp it up folks (the stockpiling!)

It's just been announced that Iran's leader has been killed! 😱

Dawnintheageofaquariams · 28/02/2026 22:07

Nah, Leader is dead as disco.
Will be some regional instability but no more than usual.
Nobody left in Iran to escalate, China will push diplomacy but won't commit to any more than that.

ThatCleverFatball · 28/02/2026 22:10

Stockpile toilet psper? Workedxin thr zUK durinh covid.
Seriously though, water woukld be on my list, some edible foods that dont nred cooking or cold stirage, ways to start a fire. A suitable torch with ffesh batteries. A chsrged mobile phonr if yiu do flee, suitable bags to carry it in, not suitcases with rollie wheels, think rucsacs. First aid equipment and any dprcific medicines needed. Passports & ID.
yiur packed rucsac should be hanndy at all times, this is yiur grsb bag.in the car if you drive anywhere, in the office if yiu go into eork at all.

China will want the straits of Hormuz reopened.

The leader is dead, there's other ayatollahs and a lot of IRGC foot soldiers who will be unemployed

Tryanalogue · 28/02/2026 22:26

Fill the screen washer thing too.

I literally do have a pile of about 8 persian rugs. And one tin of mackerel fillets.

I'm doomed. Two persian carpets and a persian cat.

That's the claim by Trump and Netanyahu based on one of his main residences in Tehran being destroyed by bombing. The Iranian Foreign Minister claims the Ayatollah was moved out of Tehran and is still alive. We'll have to wait and see.

NZKate · 28/02/2026 22:29

There is no plan for this to be a land war - it's a series of tactical strikes that will continue for a week or so.

YelramBob · 28/02/2026 22:31

Sundaymorningatwork2 · 28/02/2026 21:21

To be fair, I filled the car last week because of the tensions… but then again, I live in Tel Aviv, so it was probably not overblown…

Is it cold in Tel Aviv? I live quite close and it's bloody freezing here 🥶🤨😂

MayaPinion · 28/02/2026 22:31

Well I for one have a three month supply of Curly Wurlies.

LittleRed34 · 28/02/2026 22:37

I'm worried too..but my worries are more crazy then if I run out of loo roll or fuel for my car.

I'm terrified we will be nuked in our sleep, war is going to start and we are literally screwed. I'm terrified and scared witless.

ProudCat · 28/02/2026 22:42

The reactions here are a little bit strange to be honest.

It's not about the OP's car needing petrol, it's about every other transportation and trade system that needs petrol. I think something like a third of all crude goes through the Straits of Hormuz (that Iran has just closed) ... Going to be quite difficult to deliver food to the shops if there' no fuel for ships and lorries.

Trump's recent actions in Venezuela mean he's probably secured enough oil for the US. He can probably hold the line a lot longer than Europe can.

I should imagine the global economy will take a hit. The action has taken place at the weekend to give the stock market a bit of time to assess the situation before it reopens on Monday. I expect we'll see the impact then.

Long story short, no, it's not unreasonable to do some prep. Don't need to buy a goat or anything.

This males a lot of sense. I do not think Iran will strike Britain but I do think there will be oil issues.

Thinl about it this way. Between us and the origin is wuite a lots of interceptor points.
Imho it's bigger chance to need 150 toilet paper rolls in stock than that

Kathyscookies · 28/02/2026 22:44

No, I'm not doing anything.
I'm just focusing on worrying about the things I CAN control like missing my son.
