Is anyone else preparing or making plans, in case the situation in the Middle East escalates?
Ive filled my car up with fuel. Should i be doing more?

No.It won't. Iran doesn't have the resources to escalate, all the other Muslim states hate them, and their friend Russia is stretched to full capacity on Ukraine.

Dymaxion · 28/02/2026 20:32

torches are safer than candles.

Whilst true, I was hoping this might be the opportunity to use up the 100's of tealights I feel compelled to buy at every trip to Ikea, I could probably fashion a makeshift landing strip if things get really lairy Grin

User567573 · 28/02/2026 20:33

This thread sounds like the OP lives in the Middle East and is trying to drive out of a war zone on one tank of fuel 😆

Stockpile bog roll
That always helps.

speaking of, when we had the toilet paper shortage during covid why did people not just use baby wipes instead ?

Because I wipe to get drier not wetter

BeanQuisine · 28/02/2026 20:46

Erect an Anderson shelter in the back garden and always carry your Mickey Mouse gasmask. Stock up on flour, powdered egg and tins of corned beef.

Simplestars · 28/02/2026 20:48

@Olympeagal 💐 .

Because I wipe to get drier not wetter

that only lasts seconds and to me is better than toilet paper

BePoisedPlumUser · 28/02/2026 20:52

Buy loo roll

BlueJuniper94 · 28/02/2026 20:53

I'm pretty preppy but it didn't occur to me

Great now there’s going to be loads of wankers queuing at the petrol stations filling up cans. I’m starting to run low so that will be fun

This. Let’s hope that most people don’t rush out and panic buy petrol just to potentially save a few pounds. It’s behaviour like that which causes shortages unnecessarily. There are posters on here who are apparently retired and don’t use much petrol and they’ve rushed out to fill up. Why? We need people like doctors, nurses, firefighters etc to be able to get to work. They may not be able to if people have caused avoidable shortages by panic buying.

Stockpile baklava.

And Dubai chocolate.

SpecialAgentMaggieBell · 28/02/2026 19:10

😂Sounds like a plan, I'm in!

Me too. And I'll bring the cricket bat, just in case.

You must be rich

The petrol station was busy and its obvious oil prices will sky rocket if the situation remains so unstable.
I will admit i am very anxious. My partner is an engineer snd was in Kuwait only 3 weeks ago. Thankfully he is now in Asia but with flights being cancelled, i do worry how he will get home. Such an awful situation .

Edited

The petrol stations are always busy on a Saturday, people are going out!

I don’t know anyone who is panicking about this, Iran has been bombed, they will retaliate a bit, it’ll go on for a few days / weeks and that will be it. The US aren’t interested in long campaigns, short and sharp is what they want.

Trump seems to have the attention span of a gnat so he’ll move on to something else by the middle of next week.

DecemberGloom · 28/02/2026 21:04

absolute tommyrot.

Sundaymorningatwork2 · 28/02/2026 21:21

To be fair, I filled the car last week because of the tensions… but then again, I live in Tel Aviv, so it was probably not overblown…

Additup · 28/02/2026 18:03

No, imo you shouldn't be doing more.
The situation in the ME has been escalating and de-escalating my entire life (mid 50's). It's just the way it is in that part of the world.

Yes my DDs father was actually out there fighting when she was born.

Lots of people like to centre themselves in everything and threads like this is an example of that.

So you’ve saved on one tank of fuel? That’s great, but you’re not going to avoid the issue moving forwards if oil prices increase.

You’re disappointed you can’t fly into a war?

I responded light-heartedly to a light-hearted comment

And before you tell me there is nothing light-hearted about war, I couldn't agree more.

Strawberrydelight78 · 28/02/2026 21:52

FFS are we going to have idiots stockpiling petrol again?

ForeverTheOptomist · 28/02/2026 21:52

I've got to say I'm more concerned about the deaths and mass destruction than anything else, especially since Kier Starmers confirmation of our involvement.

An uneccesary side swipe at ‘retired’ people there. How do you know the demographic of who is posting on this thread? People can be dicks about hoarding and stock piling whatever their age.
