Is it time to start buying toilet paper yet

RedRiverShore6 · 04/03/2026 16:03

I just had a toilet paper delivery but it was a routine one from Amazon of 24 pack Andrex.

That easier said than done if you need to for work. And I don't mean commuting

Local panic buying idiots used up all the unleaded in our local petrols station last night.

Edited

Fair point, but a lot of people now treat driving as a leisure activity, and I don"t mean a getaway to the Highlands I mean driving round their town/city in a bling motor just posing, they can all get grounded for all I care. Britain has always loved a good panic buying session, we do the totally pointless emergency stockpiling very well, there are probably idiots still using toilet roll they bought during Covid.

Whammyammy · 04/03/2026 18:54

Good lord. Let's hope others don't rush out filling their cars with fuel and over buying toilet rolls and pasta.

Keep seeing this odd traitor-like mentality from right wingers. If you're not hoping your country will fall, you're begging the US to invade. Mental.

What does " feeling British" look like please?

InterestedDad37 · 10/03/2026 14:12

I've ironed my underpants 🤔

Hedjwitch · 10/03/2026 20:21

Everyone should keep some cash at home.A cyber strike will take out electronic banking, cash machines and tills. If you do nothing else,do this.

Good advice, and minimise debt, borrowing is going to get a lot more expensive.

Cash In small denominations. Meaning £5. No one is going to give you change for a £20.

Any supermarket will give you change for £20.

I’ve installed laser guided machine guns on the porch and shed to repel any ground attacks front and rear. As I type DH is on the roof installing a new radar to allow us to launch counter measures in case of an aerial attack. Finally both DC are watching Top Gun and Top Gun Maverick back to back so they can pilot the family fighter jet if needed.

Oh, I bought some pasta too.

You need camo Netting, the type they use to. Hide tanks. Ds has a Gilet suit so I'm laughing. Think of drone attacks from above. Pretend your a tree

Supermarkets don’t open if the power is out. Short term supermarkets may start offering cash sales, but it’s a security risk to hold cash especially in disruptive times.

Long term you’ll be buying from non supermarkets and they won’t be minded to give you change.

The point of having cash is ultimately not for the nice ordered world in which supermarkets are functioning well.

I think if you’ve got to the point where all supermarkets are totally closed and the “ordered world” is gone so everyone is panicking trying to buy from small shops or men from vans or something then we’ve likely reached the point widespread looting anyway. Cash would still be useless at that point. People will likely just be stealing everything. If the people selling are at the point of refusing to give change then they’ll likely be selling a tin of beans for about £20 anyway. It won’t exactly be civilised transactions but just with cash.

So non supermarkets will be open and dealing in cash (but they won"t be minded to give you change?) while it is too risky for supermarkets to open and deal in cash?

2 or 3 days of a shutdown where people couldn"t use plastic or payment apps would see the supermarkets begging for cash, they would have "Cash Welcome" signs up outside.

Dudes. You've received the advice to have small denominations. Which is advice gleaned from listening to people who have actually been in tough situations.

It's your choice whether to follow it. Or, alternatively, you can just argue about it.

emilysquest · 13/03/2026 18:25

After Storm Eowyn in Ireland last year the local shops were open for cash buyers only for several days (and the petrol station were closed, so couldn't get to the bigger shops).

You'll need it for the next Knit & Natter Stitch 'n' Bitch if they decide to hold a fundraising bingo night. That Linda over there? No, that's Lin - and that's Lynne - Linda - is a dab hand in Krav Maga after she went off to work on a farm for six months and didn't come back for three and a half years. And Barbara's yoga nights and a correspondence course in Animal Reiki turned into five years training at a Shaolin Temple.
