I'm away and at spoons having breakfast.

Every single table apart from mine has pints going, at 8.30.

Aibu thinking it's weird?

The guy who starts on his allegedly low ABV ale on a Saturday morning probably makes it an all day event so he is the 'less healthy' one.
The venue isn't the issue so your 'high end' description is irrelevant.

Please provide a direct link to research to support your claim

You're very presumptuous aren't you, Gloriia hun

I think you are definitely in the top5 most judgemental MN participants I've come across. Which is funny considering you haven't made one valid argument yet.

Ginmonkeyagain · 16/02/2026 16:25

The most judgemental MN user is a pretty high fucking bar as well 😆

In the top 5 most judgemental posters because I've said that 8.30 boozing is not a good idea. Riiiight Grin. The ability to outrage on mn never ceases to amaze.

Because you keep saying it doesn't happen for nightshift workers (despite numerous posters here saying they do), claiming people who do are partying at 8.30am 😂, claiming it is somehow unhealthier at 8.30am than other times of the day, implying that people who drink in the morning are alcohol dependent etc etc

Why the need to judge anybody at all? Does it make you happier to put others done?

It’s the thinking that everyone else lives on the same time scale as you that is most odd.
I’ve just got up, as I worked a 12 hour shift last night and will do the same tonight. I’m meeting a few friends for breakfast in Wetherspoons tomorrow and might have a tipple too, as it’s evening time for me!

I'm judging because It's what the thread is about! I wouldn't say pop into my local at 8.30am and call them all worthless alkies or anything but when we have poster after poster saying it's just the same as 8pm boozing then I'm sorry but I am allowed to say no it absolutely is not. This is not rocket science although some on here seem to think it is absolutely lovely and normal Confused.

We have a nation of people with a very unhealthy attitude to booze.

Unhealthy by your standards... which I must be honest I don't rate highly 😂
If the entire nation has an Unhealthy attitude to booze... would that not in fact normalise it then?

And the fact you've admitted yourself poster after poster have disputed your judgemental claims again makes it seems like maybe you are the odd one out?

'Give up'? A very cursory Google states

Key risks associated with morning drinking include:

  • Alcohol Dependency Signs: A desire to drink early in the day often indicates that the body has become dependent on alcohol to function or to alleviate a hangover.
  • Physical Health Hazards: It can lead to increased tolerance, chronic liver damage, and mental health issues like depression.
  • Immediate Effects: Drinking early causes severe dehydration, increased risk of accidents due to impairment, nausea, and vomiting.
  • Disrupted Metabolism: Morning drinking, particularly on an empty stomach, can lead to a faster, more intense, and harmful, effect on the body.

So much denial, enabling and minimising going on. Morning drinking is not a good thing it is astounding that it needs pointing out.

Having an early morning drink pre holiday doesn't tell you whether that's how they normally behave! One or two drinks before flying is just one way of starting a holiday. I prefer that to wandering around the duty free shops buying overpriced perfume and sunglasses. It doesn't mean I'm going to spend the whole day drinking, nor that I usually start the day with booze, nor that I'm on the way to being an alcoholic. It's a signal to me that I'm away from my normal routine.

...and I also suspect "morning"/"early in the day" on that list is a short hand way of meaning something like "just after you've rolled out of bed" or "the start of the active or working day".

A lot of people don't have lives that run like that..

Nettie1964 · 16/02/2026 17:40

How to be judgy and virtue sinal in 1 short sentence. Here's one for you I check all ladies toilets before I let my grandchildren wee. Just incase their are any intact "ladies" in the loos. I do it because of experience.😃

Oh yes I agree on this thread I'm in the minority. Some people cba to take on quite rude and goady posters though. Irl there is not a chance people would be trying to convince anyone that 8.30am drinking is absolutely fine. Not a chance. Oh forget those pesky nhs guidelines what do they know.

There's nothing especially wrong with 8.30am drinking at an airport before a holiday. You'd have to look at a much wider picture to gain an insight into somebody's drinking habits.

ThatCoolGoose · 16/02/2026 18:45

Because he likes Brexit and hates the French delisted all EU wines

crazeekat · 16/02/2026 18:49

Took kids in for breakfast whilst waiting on an appointment and omg I won’t be back, full of folk half micked at 9.40am and all on their phones watching stuff on loudspeaker. I mean like 15 tables all sitting with phones on Noise was insane. Wont be back.

Nothing in the NHS guidelines says about what time you drink.
And has been said by several people on here... including people who have worked in Wetherspoons, those early morning drinkers tend to nurse the same pint for ages and leave by late afternoon. They are not there all day. They cause no trouble at all, unlike the people who get pissed in the evening.

They do a nice breakfast, decent veggie options and the coffee is refill.

I go quite often with a veggie friend, although we go nearer lunchtime.

They're brilliant for vegetarians and vegans. I'm not vegan but I do regularly eat vegan options due to allergies.
For £2.99 you can't go wrong! (No, I don't work for them before anyone starts 😁) (There's two vegan sausages hiding behind the pot of beans assuming this photo loads that is)

I like the Freedom breakfast. £2.99 where I live.
You really can't go wrong for a breakfast that you don't have to cook or wash up after.

MantleStatue · 17/02/2026 07:55

That breakfast looks good. Not too oily like some can be, and real mushrooms and tomatoes not tinned and heated.

I've not tried their vegetarian sausages before but their meat ones are quite okay.

That’s a pretty typical Wetherspoons crowd — the same group who always seem to turn up at those “Save Our Country” marches, clutching their cans and waving flags.
