To have ran upstairs in case I smelt of burger

Just now

Treated myself to a Big tasty meal on the way home from work. Happily driving along in the dark and rain, listening to 90’s tunes 🤣
Dropped the bag evidence in the big bin round the corner from my house, getting soaked in the process, but all worth it.
Had to do the quick check of the car and car seat for any random bits-there was shredded lettuce-got rid.
Came in the house, coat off and Ddog smelling my hands, so I ran upstairs saying to Dh and Dd that I was tired 😂

In bed feeling satisfied, but wondering if I smell of burger

What on earth?
Isn’t there a less disturbing way you can think of to get some excitement in your life?
Those of us who “don’t get it” seem to manage this.

I have a very exciting life thank you. I am
very lucky.

But you sir, are a fun sponge. Fact.

These threads come up regularly on Mumsnet - eating food in secret. Doing this never enters my mind. I don't see the attraction. Why is this a thing? Why is eating food in secret so exciting?

Saves money for one. If you go home with a McDonald's or whatnot to a husband and kids then it's strops and sad faces. If you say you're picking up then you get a list, it costs 3 times as much and is just another chore.

Serving your own needs only. It's allowed on occasion.

Probably because anyone not living under a rock currently has ‘UPF free very healthy no more than 1200 calories a day keto WLI take up less space eat 100g of collagen a day or die’ rammed down their throats, but Maccys tastes sensational so we want to do it with any judgement from not doing the above?

No doubt someone who ‘doesn’t understand’ will be along to say they’ve never so much as looked at a McDonalds shortly though.

CBM40 · 10/02/2026 21:21

Big tasty isn't even on the menu atm 😂🙄

Myeyeisnotokay · 10/02/2026 21:21

When my kids were still little babies, I used to sneak downstairs in the early hours (usually after a wake-up) and have a bowl of co co pops. Sometimes two! I'd steal the full fat milk meant for my kids too, because it tasted nicer.

I often stand with the fridge door open so DH can't see me eating whatever sweet treat I've got, because I don't want to share 😂

Moulez · 10/02/2026 21:21

You so are, terrible grammar and eating McDonald's @Whydoesitalwaysrainonmeeeee

Is a Big Tasty better than a Big Mac? Is it like a 1/4 pounder with cheese sort of thing?
Had a lovely maccies a few nights ago, chicken McNuggets are my downfall and always have been..

I prefer the Big Mac.

I think the Big Tasty has a thicker meat patty and a different type of cheese to the Big Mac.

Thread after thread after thread after thread all demonstrating most of MN have no sense of humour. No sense of tongue in cheek. No sense of hyperbole.

No wonder there's no good comedies on the telly any more, it would be wasted on the nation if posters here are indicative of the population.

Because I had to escape my family in case they sniffed me out..of course 🙄

Why did you have to get int bed to do that? If I went straight upstairs to bed when I got home, my family would come up to find out what was wrong with me.

Big mac is usually my preferred option and Dh gets Big tasty, larger burger, tastes more sort of Bbq’d, big tomato slice…god, it was good

Haha I love this, well done.

Its reminded me of a fond memory of a VERY rare break away from my 1 year old (ex would never ever watch his own child 🙄). I had gone to the supermarket and the ex started texting me constantly asking when I was coming, could I hurry, not because he was controlling but just an absolutely useless fucker. But on the way home I spotted a food van with a big queue and thought oooh that must be good so I slammed on the brakes and joined the queue and I got the most amazing lamb kebab. I ate it in a lay-by, ignoring my calls and texts. It was one of the best meals of my life. And then when I got home I picked up my lovely baby and quickly scooted away from ex so he wouldn’t smell the delicious lamb grease and hot sauce.

I love getting into bed early on a cold, rainy winters night…In fact, I thought about it all day. Fantastic end to the day, secret Mcds and under the covers scrolling

If you were able to run up the stairs then you clearly didn't eat enough burgers. I don't have McDonald's often but when I do I need a set of wheels afterwards.

likelysuspect · 10/02/2026 21:31

Its on the telly every second episode, how dare it not be in the menu!!

KimuraTan · 10/02/2026 21:33

Do you have an eating disorder or is your partner controlling your food intake?? I am genuinely bemused by your post. Is this a UK thing? Why not just eat and enjoy it - who’s stopping you?? Stealth eating doesn’t sound healthy - are you okay?

Dliplop · 10/02/2026 21:33

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 10/02/2026 20:34

But why would you hide what you’ve eaten? I really don’t understand either.

Is this secret eating thing something lots of people do? Why?

It’s a bit of fun - part of the pleasure
Gives you something nice that is JUST yours
No one whining or stealing or complaining or commenting
Saves money treating just one instead of all

My DH wouldn’t care but he would want a coke zero and fries.
