Amazon should reimburse me right?

TheBlueKoala · 04/02/2026 07:07

Ordered protein bars (16). Came yesterday. Best before limit date 03.2026. Seriously? So in a couple of weeks. Tried to return but they wouldn't have it- since it's "food" you can't return- safety reasons I get this. But shouldn't they atleast reimburse me- I mean I bought these to have for atleast 4 months.

YANBU - Ofcourse you should be reimbursed!

YABU- Just hurry up and eat them all before March.

If you can be bothered to navigate their circuitous help system, and can force yourself to deal with an online associate, they will refund you for food items. We had some badly packaged chocolate milk cartons which had split and negotiating the help system was a nightmare but once I actually got through to an online person it was refunded in seconds.

But that was for food that was damaged and not consumable. There is nothing wrong with the OPs food.

Yes, I agree. I wish I could be more like dh or ds2 who can drop a crisp on the foor and put it in his mouth. Atleast I have kept my weirdness hidden well so as to not contaminate my children. Although ds1(asd) has heavy OCD and gets easily disgusted so I might have passed it on genetically😥

And this is Amazon's fault?

Pineapplewaves · 04/02/2026 07:38

Just out of interest were they cheaper than anywhere else? When you find a food or drink item going really cheap on Amazon it is usually because it has a short date.

There are nine weeks until the end of March, you have 16 bars, surely you can eat them by then? Or get your DH and DC to eat a couple.

Ah, thank you for understanding why I'm not happy. Everyone thinks I'm being unreasonable- which I kind of get- tbh I would prefer to return them and get new ones but since this is not possible I would like to be reimbursed. I won't eat them- it's all in my head I know but I'm ott about this even though I know intellectually that it's fine to eat a yogurt 5 days after date limit I just can't do it psychologically- I'd rather go without.

But yeah, I will write a shitty review (factual) hoping to feel better afterwards😅

I'm a stickler for dates on food (although I would absolutely eat these bars as they're two months in date!). On the rare occasion I buy food online (outside of my weekly shop) I message the seller and ask what the best before/use by date is.

I imagine a lot of Amazon/eBay sellers buy stuff like this in bulk on the cheap from other retailers when it's nearing the end of its shelf life.

dementedpixie · 04/02/2026 07:41

You have 2 months to eat them!
They need used by the end of March not the start

LightYearsAgo · 04/02/2026 07:43

You're being ridiculous, why should Amazon indulge that?

If you can't eat normally why aren't you going to a shop for your food?

Thesnailonthewhale · 04/02/2026 07:48

It's not fair to leave a bad review, all because if your own issues.

Poor form.

They sent you 16 bars and 2 months to eat them.... Most people would eat those in 2-3 weeks anyway!

Thank you! I have never done this before as I have only returned items that were "returnable". They directed me to a chat where I had to send photos. And..
They will reimburse me and told me to do what I want with the bars I have. 😁

So even though MN deemed me as unreasonable (which I understand) I gained cause thanks to @Plumbernightmare who told me that it was possible. Thank you. And also it was very very quick. So I'm not going to badmouth Amazon even though it's ofcourse better for the planet and the local economy if we buy locally.

So why did you say in your OP that Amazon refused you a refund when it turns out that you never even asked for one? Bizarre 🙄

Rooroobear · 04/02/2026 07:53

So if you bought 16 and wanted them to last 4 months what were you planning to do? Eat one bar a week?? Of course they sent you 16 that are more than in date for practically 2 months. Writing a bad review is really unreasonable seen as what they sent you was correct and consumable. Says more about you than the company. Ridiculous

ForgottenPasswordNewAccount · 04/02/2026 07:53

Its a best before date not a use by.

You could still eat them in 12 months

cramptramp · 04/02/2026 07:53

It’s best before, not use by. They’ll be fine after March.

She won’t listen, she’s too busy gleefully eating the bars she got from a small company that probably now needs to reimburse Amazon.

Octovent · 04/02/2026 07:55

Have you contacted customer services or just clicked through a bot response? Going against the grain of everyone else, I wouldn't be happy at all either. Protein bars are expensive, and that's a lot to eat in a few weeks. I've been refunded on short date protein bars before

So you’ve also scammed them out of a perfect sale too. Theft

itsgettingweird · 04/02/2026 07:56

Personally I don’t think an 8 week limit on 16 bars is low.

my thinking may be scewed because of my experience but my ds is an athlete and order the bars because he’s an athlete and so eats them more frequently - you sound like you don’t plan on eating them even 1 a week?

im guessing their recommend date is short because the are marketing for people who will consume them at a higher rate?

nomas · 04/02/2026 07:56

Rooroobear · 04/02/2026 07:55

Yep, I’m betting she places the same order next month.

Amazon will have put a flag on her account to monitor the amount of refund requests.

YourWinter · 04/02/2026 07:57

That’s two a week until the end of March. I think I you’re being a bit precious and frankly silly expecting a refund.

winterbluess · 04/02/2026 07:58

I'm a nightmare for food dates but even i would eat them until at least April, it's only a protien bar there will be nothing wrong with it even if it's a little over the BB date. Even then if you eat 2 a week they will still be in date so I don't think they're in the wrong.

I don't think they should have refunded you. Someone, somewhere bears the cost of frivolous complaints like yours.

StickySeason · 04/02/2026 08:03

How often do you eat these bars?? You’ve got until the end of March to eat 16 bars…surely you eat more than one a week?

Anyway, regardless, I can’t believe you’re going to leave a shitty review on Amazon even though they’ve done nothing wrong and you accept you’ve issues with food and dates.

CactusSwoonedEnding · 04/02/2026 08:07

If you'd bought 365 bars I would agree with you, but 16 bars with 8 weeks to go till they expire is only 2 per week. As a seller I wouldn't think it was unreasonable until the number of bars in the sale batch exceeded the number of days until the expiry. Your preference to treat BBE 03/2026 (meaning fine to eat until the end of March and not actually poisonous after that just possibly less good texture) as being actually "throw away on 1st March" is something in your 9wn head and not the vendor's responsibility.

It's fair enough to leave a factual review stating that you were sent product that was only 8 weeks off its expiry date to warn off other buyers who might be expecting a long-term supply.

Protien bars aren't generally a very good way of getting healthy nutrition though.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 04/02/2026 08:08

Given you clearly have psychological issues around BBF dates you are being very entitled. Go to the shop and check dates, don’t throw your toys out of the pram, consider shitty reviews etc because you cause the issue yourself.

rockinrobins · 04/02/2026 08:09
