Amazon should reimburse me right?

Ordered protein bars (16). Came yesterday. Best before limit date 03.2026. Seriously? So in a couple of weeks. Tried to return but they wouldn't have it- since it's "food" you can't return- safety reasons I get this. But shouldn't they atleast reimburse me- I mean I bought these to have for atleast 4 months.

YANBU - Ofcourse you should be reimbursed!

YABU- Just hurry up and eat them all before March.

I'd be grumpy and write a bad review but I don't think they will reimburse.

Bad review saying what? The bars have an 8 week best before date and I want longer cause I only eat one a week? That seems like an OP issue not Amazon.

YOU think I'm wrong. A scam is when you are misleading someone or not being truthful. I take offense at that but I acknowledge that I'm a princess when it comes to best before dates.

I bet you're the same with Use By foods , wouldn't eat them if it's gone past midnight of the date 😱

AquaShark · 04/02/2026 15:52

Just eat 2 a week and you are done. Struggling to see the issue here. Were you really only planning to eat 1 a week for 4 months?

WiddlinDiddlin · 04/02/2026 15:55

You'd be well out of line to leave a shitty review - you have 8 weeks to eat them before they are past their best before date. Thats 2 a week! Hardly difficult.

If sellers aren't able to sell stock that has two months left of its shelf life, they'd go out of business!

dizzydizzydizzy · 04/02/2026 12:11

Errr well surely you realise that some of us sometimes forget to check the date, despite our best intentions?

The best before date on eggs can be up to 28 days after the eggs were laid, so if they are only 2 days before their best before date they may be nearly 4 weeks old.

Of course I realise that. I never even bother to look at dates. But for the OP, dates are crucial so I was suggesting that she check them herself. And eggs last for ages beyond the 'best before' date - the white just gets a bit flatter when you fry them.

I bought a food product from amazon that arrived having leaked into the box.
No satisfaction when I complained, so haven't used Amazon since, nor will anyone else here again.
They are surprisingly ease to not use since last summer.

16 bars across 2 months is mildly annoying but fine.

Presumably they were a good price.

Why is it annoying? It’s two per week.

I know this is Mumsnet, home of the chicken which feeds a family of ten for two years, but really?

My point is you'd be annoyed its a slightly short date but 2 bars per week is easy to eat / youd probably eat.more so what is really the problem?

Crazyclover · 04/02/2026 19:17

People like you ruin the ratings which Amazon use for sellers - they will have to sell 100 more lots of these bars to get the refund rate below 1% which Amazon expect or risk losing their account, within 30 days.

Food items - amazon take a 29% fee on, then there is the 76p site fee, then the postage costs and if it is fulfilled by Prime, there is an additional fee to pay so your £32 does not equate to the seller making much of a profit.

In addition, poor feedback also affects the seller ratings and risks their account, so enjoy your free protein bars and your £32!

Hereandthereupupthestairs · 04/02/2026 19:19

Totally YABU. Entirely possible this was a small business supplying through amazon. Even amazon prime. You have 8 weeks to eat 16 protein bars. So ridiculous to be annoyed by that nevermind the laziness of buying such a thing on amazon. Amd people complain town centres are empty and devoid of shops and small business offering choice. Wonder why....

100% the entitlement is real. So many people just think kkf amazon and this giant corp without realising how much they take from small businesses but a catch 22 for small businesses because without it their business might not exist!

Yabu to buy anything from Amazon.

How do you not know that small businesses sell on Amazon. Such a boring, pointless statement.

LHP118 · 04/02/2026 21:03

It's best before, not expiry. Not an issue to consume whenever

Emmz1510 · 04/02/2026 21:14

Yeah they’ll will be good for at least another two months. How often are you planning eating them? One bar a day for 16 days……?

SumUp · 04/02/2026 21:23

Best before dates are about food quality more than safety. Shorter dates = older food, but not unsafe to eat.

If you want a long date on products, it’s best to buy in person rather than order online, or buy them from somewhere where you can contact a real person and ask them about the product shelf life before ordering.

I am really careful about this when ordering herbs and spices, which lose flavour during storage.

Zonkconk97 · 04/02/2026 22:14

Go through the normal return procedure, when it says this item can’t be returned because it is food scroll down to “has this answered your question “ say no and it offers you to chat to someone, state your case there and they may refund you. I have followed the above with a foodstuff and received a refund. Good luck.

OP has already had the refund for her perfectly ok bars.

Ah, thank you for understanding why I'm not happy. Everyone thinks I'm being unreasonable- which I kind of get- tbh I would prefer to return them and get new ones but since this is not possible I would like to be reimbursed. I won't eat them- it's all in my head I know but I'm ott about this even though I know intellectually that it's fine to eat a yogurt 5 days after date limit I just can't do it psychologically- I'd rather go without.

But yeah, I will write a shitty review (factual) hoping to feel better afterwards😅

But you've got until the end of March to eat them as they'll be within the Best Before Date until then. And for a while after, say another month or so, they'll be fine. Your comparison with yogurt is wrong - that has a Use By date as it'll go off. Your UPF protein bars aren't going to go off, I'm sure they'll be full of chemicals to keep them 'fresh'!
