To think we shouldn’t have to contribute to soch if we don’t intend to use it?

For example, I don’t want a state pension - so I should surely be able to opt out of soch based contributions percentage. And just pay a lesser amount to cover anything I do take advantage of.

Well I’m not going there am I.

  1. Don’t want to
  2. Self treat myself for 40 years and hasn’t failed me.
  3. Will not go out if unwell

OP, what happens if you get hit by a car? Or have a nasty accident at work and have a head injury and/or are bleeding heavily? It's those kinds of moments where you would have to attend the emergency department of the hospital, which private hospitals do not have.

Why would I get hit by a car? Realistically that would not happen .

Please do, it must be pretty miserable working in an MPs office 95% of the time.

I would self treat myself. As I always do anyway.

Magic mushrooms really aren’t the answer OP.

As this thread demonstrates.

Oh so now you're admitting you've received not just one, but multiple grants?!
Bet you got free university fees too.
Unbelievable.
Some people just take, take, take.

What if you have a heart attack or stroke? Or get run over by a bus. What about when your fancy private healthcare tells you they can’t do any more for you and advise you to get an NHS appointment to sort your health problem out?

This type of selfishness is awful, OP.

honeylulu · 27/01/2026 23:21

Migrants? Or immigrants? There is a difference.

Mygrans is the mature person's OnlyFans. And coincidentally, round my way we call the chippy the OnlyFins

Did Wayne Rooney start that? 🤔

Yes. One wonders how OP will self treat a broken bone, heart attack, cancer or dementia. Perhaps it is advancing already ...

Why have I just paid three grand to uplift my state pension?

Edited

That's to improve your contribution record, it doesn't go into a pot for you, just sets the amount of pension you will get - that's assuming state pensions are a thing in the future - neo-liberal capitalism doesn't like money spent on welfare that would be better as profits for a billionaire.

Boudy · 27/01/2026 23:24

What about heart attack? Stoke? Brain aneurysm? Acute angle glaucoma? UTI that becomes septic? There is a myriad of reasons a person has to attend a&e. You could trip on the cord of your dressing gown and fall down stairs, breaking your neck. Has happened to an old neighbour of mine. Shit happens.

OnYerselfHen · 27/01/2026 23:26

Ha! I quoted myself 🙈 I mean to quote your response to me, @slozenger

UserFront242 · 27/01/2026 23:26

YABU you pay your tax and NI to the government. After that, you have no say in where it goes, and rightly so because half the people on here would see no money go to the disabled whatsoever.
You are not "saving" into a pension via NI. It goes to people who are pensioners now.
I don't have kids, and never want any. I see my tax payments as paying for my own education I had as a kid.
