When I was about 25, I had just moved house with my boyfriend and I was out with a friend one night. At gone 9pm a young man who spoke in a very London “street” kind of way called my landline and asked for me by name (which is unusual and masculine). When my boyfriend said I wasn’t there, he didn’t leave a number but said “tell her that David called”.
I did not know anyone called David nor anyone who spoke like that (not anywhere near London). I had not given anyone my brand new landline number. I was totally vexed but what happened the next morning only vexed me further!
I got his number from 1471. The area code was from the city I lived just outside of. So I called it back. A middle-aged Jamaican woman that sounded like his mum answered, so i asked for David and told her my name. She shouts for him saying “David, it’s Reins.”
He didn’t even say hello, he just said “ahh sorry for calling last night, I got the wrong number” I said, but you asked for me by name. “Yeah yeah, I meant to call my friend Reins in (another city an hour away) and got the wrong area code.” So I said, so you have a female friend called Reins with exactly my number? “Yep, sorry, bye.”
I just can’t work it out!
His excuse just can’t be true or else he’d have assumed it was his friend on the phone when his mum called him to the phone.
If he was calling for dodgy reasons (but I can’t think of any) such that he would want to deny it the next morning, he would have used fake name and withheld his number, and it can’t have been anything legitimate at that time of night.
Who is David?!! Still bugs me to this day.
