Bizarre things you couldnt fathom

Not AIBU. Just curious.
Have you ever experienced anything either publicly or privately that just didn't make sense or seemed bizarre or you just couldnt fathom in some way.
I was in a small cafe looking out on Trafalgar Square about 10 years ago. ..Alan Yentob walked in through the door. .I kept an eye constantly on the door because I wanted to get a good look at him when he walked out again but I didn't want to stare while he was in the cafe. I was by the window seat looking out on Trafalgar Square. After about 15 minutes i turned my head and looked round in the cafe and he was nowhere to be seen. It was a small cafe !! He wasnt sitting at any of the tables and I'd had my eye on the door the whole time so I know he couldn" t have slipped past me. There was no other exit and only some toilets. It was a really bizarre experience that I can't fathom to this day. I KNOW I never took my eye off the door. I just dont know where he went.

When my mum was in labour with my brother, her twin suddenly developed terrible back pain.
Which disappeared as quickly as it arrived.
It was only afterwards, when my Nan told him that my mum had had the baby - they thought wooh - sympathy pains!

Complete coincidence, of course, but weird all the same.

I’ve also had things simply disappear from this house. Christ knows what’s happened to them.

My husband was in the bath, about to doze off, so his eyes were closed.
Then, in his ear, he hears my voice really annunciating his name. Which obviously startled him and woke him up sharpish.

I reckon he just fell asleep and dreamt it.

Omg what a blast from the past your user name is 🤯😂

About 6 months ago the remote control went missing in our living room. It’s silver so slightly easier spotted than a black one. There’s only an L shaped sofa ( on legs so you can see under it easily) an armchair and tv stand in the room so it’s not very cluttered. Anyway searched high and low for days and nothing, took all cushions off the sofa etc. Then a few days later I walked in in the morning and there it was in the middle of the floor on the carpet!

Nobody else notices it! 😉

I still listen to all the old XFM broadcasts. The very birth of Monkey News, Rockbusters, and Educating Ricky.

Omg you’ve just reminded me that’s happened to me too! Not at 4am thankfully but a couple of times when I’ve been asleep in the day but my DH was in and he’s looked at me like I was mad when I asked who was at the door!!

My then 1yr old used to watch the baby sensory videos on YouTube. Went to bed one night around 11pm, after locking up/checking everything is off as usual. Around 2am, I hear a strange noise and go downstairs to find the laptop on and the baby sensory video playing! Son fast asleep in his sleep bag in his cot, and in his bedroom, so not a chance he could have turned it on!

Was it rented?

All these stories of things going missing from your flat - if they were rented it could be your LL or previous tenants or maintenance people who have copies of the keys maybe?

I know someone who is a LL who sometimes (illegally) goes into their tenants flats whilst they’re at work to check on certain things. I don’t think they take or move anything but their excuse is that the tenants never get black to them about doing maintenance checks so they just go in!

Nope, I own it, and bought it off plan so it has no previous owners or keyholders.

We had something similar recently, but found the explanation. We kept finding a small puddle of water on the floor at the edge of our freestanding cupboard in the kitchen. Would mop it up. It was there again the following morning. No ceiling leak, no spillage. But when we moved the cupboard we found we had dropped a pot of sea salt over the back. It would release water whenever the house cooled down at night (or warmed up in the morning? Not sure of the science) That formed the puddle.

Wow

Something explicable but such honestly weird timing
My parents lived in their house for over 40 years, and had known the previous people who lived there for maybe about 15 before that, it was a pretty old house.
The family has just come back to the house after his funeral, it was during lockdown so couldn't have a gathering afterwards so we were just getting ready to have something to eat. My children were in the kitchen preparing the food and I was just about to come into the kitchen when there was a sound of breaking glass, I rushed in and presumed that some china has fallen out of a cupboard or some such accident. But no, it was a football that has that had come through a tiny window on the side of the kitchen wall. Beside the kitchen wall was a brick outbuilding, and behind that was a wall, and behind the wall was a flower bed full of shrubs etc and a car park.
In all those years I had known the house, going back over 50 years that had never happened before. Behind the outbuilding there were no footballs. To actually kick a football from the car park and hit the window was a several million to one chance, you could hardly see that there was a window there, a professional football team could have tried to kick the ball through that window and couldn't have done it.
It was almost as if someone/thing thought that Dad's presence needed to have an exit, it was wintertime and the doors or windows hadn't been left open because of the cold.
Completely explicable but so odd the only time it happened in living memory had been after his funeral.
He didn't die in the house. He was taken to hospital when he was taken ill and died there.
If Dad's spitit had chosen to break a window it would have been the kitchen door window, as that's where 99 per cent of the time he (and everyone else) would go in and out of the house. When he left the house that last time alive he was taken through the front door.as that was the easiest way for the ambulance crew .

Many years ago DH, DD and I stayed in a hotel which was a converted coaching house with a newer part added on. We stayed in a room in the original part of the house. DD didn’t like the room at all from the moment we walked in, we just thought she was frightened by the old pictures and decor. Anyway, we went for something to eat then back to the room to go to bed. DD made us cover up some of the things in the room she didn’t like and leave a light on (she’d never even had a nightlight as a baby). She went to sleep but had a very unsettled night which is not like her at all.

Next morning we were all getting dressed to go to a party and my DH was taking a while to get ready. I told him we needed to get a move on as it was almost time to leave and he replied that we had at least half an hour. I checked the time again on my phone and said we definitely only had ten minutes. He showed me his watch and it was 20 minutes slow 🤷‍♀️ This is a watch he’d worn for years. It’s an expensive, reliable brand and had recently been serviced. It had never lost a minute before and hasn’t done since then, it’s always kept perfect time. We don’t know if DD had sensed something in that room that we hadn’t but we can’t think of any logical explanation at all for the watch having seemingly stopped for 20 minutes overnight and that being the only time it ever did it.

Once came downstairs on my own to find a picture had been taken off the wall and was propped up against the opposite wall.

In the same room the ironing board, which was propped up against the same wall, randomly fell over when no-one had touched it.

Another time myself and other family members were all stood in the hallway and heard three very loud, clear knocks on the front door. There was no-one to be seen through the frosted glass of the door, and the security light didn’t come on outside in the dark to indicate movement.

We reckon we have a ghost, but a friendly one.

GoldInYourSmile · 15/01/2026 19:01

Visited the old plague village of Eyam once with my mum. We walked up a road to a field where the Riley Graves are. It’s all pretty famous and we covered Eyam at school.

Anyway, we’re walking up this country road with no cars about Mum jumped out her skin, covered her ears and gasped. She’d heard a woman screaming so loud it was like she was stood right next to her. She was astonished no-one else heard it, but we hadn’t.

Also, our house isn’t old but mum saw my dad once, very clearly, when she was making dinner. She assumed he’d come in from work, but then he walked in the front door. So we think it was his deceased dad? She saw him so clear!

Finally, when my aunt and uncle bought their very old cottage and redecorated, a pattern that looked like a face was in the plaster under the layers of wallpaper. Turned out it looked like the previous deceased owner.

Was it kicked from inside

No, from the outside. Nearly hit my daughter
It was obviously just some local children playing who scarpered when they realized that it has gone through a window, if they'd hung around I'd have told them that it was an accident, just take the ball and play elsewhere in future
It was entirely explicable, even the one in a billion chance that it made its way through the window. Just the incredible timing. Had it not been lockdown we'd have had a wake afterwards with everyone there ( had it not been in lockdown there would have been so many more people attending) we would have come back to the football on the kitchen floor. Maybe the children weren't allowed to go to the park, because of lockdown, maybe that's why they were playing there, I'd actually never seen any children playing football there before, they would have been told off, and there would have been cars there. But that doesn't explain the timing. The death, (not COVID) was unexpected, we'd all thought he would recover, so when he left the house which he loved, he was expecting to come back. You know I think that makes it worse, although why he didn't come in through the door which was left open as it was nice weather, I don't know

This will sound stupid and as if my husband's a cheater but
In 2024 my husband went to stay at his mum's after a really bad row we had. He had work all week and was going to work from her house early shift. I had dropped my son at work and went shopping and was driving home when my husband drove past in the opposite direction, didn't notice me staring or anything as our cars passed each others.
I assumed he had been to the house but there was no sign he had been. When he came home after 5 days and we made up I asked him about that day and he was baffled as he had been at work at that time, I saw his shift rota and Google timeline to prove it. He never lies so I've no idea what happened. I must have imagined it

Edited

There was a TV programme some years ago about weird coincidences that had a similar story. It was a bloke in a van who delivered to industrial estates in the middle of the night. He always did the same route at the same time. Never any traffic around.

One night he was delayed at one point by about 15 minutes. Then as he drove round a roundabout he saw himself coming the other way, as if he'd been on time and was coming back! His van, with himself driving it!

Muttley17 · 16/01/2026 13:22

I had this happen to me too. Pulled up outside my house and couldn’t find my house key in my bag. Searched it three times and emptied it completely along with searching my shopping bags. Someone else also had a good rummage in it for me. Ended up calling a locksmith. Put my hand in my bag while waiting for the locksmith to arrive and they were the first thing I felt 🤷‍♀️

Someone I know stayed in a hotel in Chester. The rooms were all decorated in an older style and all had large portraits In the room. The person took a pic of the room to show a relative. This shows the portrait above the bed. They showered and when they came out the picture had changed.
They say they went to reception and the people were baffled and had no idea how the picture had changed. When he went back to the room it was back to normal again.
I know the story is vague but the person it happened to was really disturbed by it and I don’t want to out them. It’s all really strange, the person would rather not talk about it.
