Bizarre things you couldnt fathom

Not AIBU. Just curious.
Have you ever experienced anything either publicly or privately that just didn't make sense or seemed bizarre or you just couldnt fathom in some way.
I was in a small cafe looking out on Trafalgar Square about 10 years ago. ..Alan Yentob walked in through the door. .I kept an eye constantly on the door because I wanted to get a good look at him when he walked out again but I didn't want to stare while he was in the cafe. I was by the window seat looking out on Trafalgar Square. After about 15 minutes i turned my head and looked round in the cafe and he was nowhere to be seen. It was a small cafe !! He wasnt sitting at any of the tables and I'd had my eye on the door the whole time so I know he couldn" t have slipped past me. There was no other exit and only some toilets. It was a really bizarre experience that I can't fathom to this day. I KNOW I never took my eye off the door. I just dont know where he went.

I once dropped an onion I was about to chop. I heard it hit the floor but was nowhere to be seen. It couldn't have rolled under anything as there are kickboards in place under the cupboards all round the kitchen. Me and my husband both searched and it was never found, just vanished.

Years ago,I dropped a magazine down the gap between my bed and the wall. I didn't try to retrieve it straight away, but the next day when I looked it wasn't there. I pulled the bed right away from the wall and looked really thoroughly, but no,it had just vanished. Even now about 10 years later,I wonder where it disappeared to. So strange.

For my 18 my father bought me an expensive ring...too expensive to wear. A couple of years later I looked for it and it was missing, we assumed one of dad's carers had stolen it.

Dad died when I was 24 and the ring had been missing for about 4 years. The next day I visited his house and opened the draw in my parents dressing table where he kept his money and found the ring at the front of the draw. It wasn't there a couple of days earlier when I had got some money to give to dad in the hospital as he wanted some. He had never left the hospital. So I always think that my dad gave me the ring twice.

If you're wondering, mum died when I was 17 and still at sixth form. I had a Saturday job at WH Smith Do It All and at 11.05 (I looked at the time) on the Saturday morning felt really ill and had to kneel down on the floor I've never felt like that before or since... when I went home about 20, minutes later to find that mum, who was home dying of cancer, had taken a turn for the worst and had a possible stroke at just past 11am.

I'm so sorry you've been through the loss of both of your parents at such a young age.

I believe you about feeling ill. I experienced my dh's pain years ago. He was having something minor done that shouldn't have hurt. I was in the waiting room as had to drive him. I suddenly felt very sick and pain in the area where he was having the procedure. It was awful. When he came out I told him and he said everything I felt was as he felt. The procedure hadn't gone as expected. We hadn't been together long.

A couple of years back my partner and I were woken up in the middle of the night by what I can only describe as some kind of demonic sound coming from our living room.

Neither of us believe in ghosts or scare easily, but we were genuinely freaked out. Going from deep sleep to adrenaline dump wasn't helping, and the fact that we couldn't figure out what the noise was felt really unsettling.

Eventually my partner grabbed his baseball bat and went to investigate. If we'd thought it was a burglar I'd have been right behind him, but I was frozen to the spot.

Turns out he'd been halfway through watching a YouTube video of a live Slipknot performance on his laptop before coming to bed. He'd paused it and unplugged his headphones, but hadn't turned the laptop off.

I was relieved that we hadn't been visited by demons, but we never did figure out how it managed to start playing of its own accord.

Popped out to the shops and came home to my two dogs with their jerseys swopped around. I know I didn’t put them on the wrong dog because the one dog is smaller than the other and he was wearing the other dogs jersey which is too big for him and it was inside out…. So strange. Just me and Dh and he was out for the day.

I was sitting quietly reading one evening when Alexa started to laugh, really loud guffaws. I turned my head slowly to look at the speaker and the laughter stopped. 'She' then started to speak in Chinese. I was so freaked out I unplugged her. It never happened again.

God imagine if it kept happening when you unplugged 😱

Someone once left a turtle in a large rubbermaid tub on our front step along with a jar of turtle food. No note. I nearly tripped over it as I was taking the DC out the door for school.

We are tortoise owners, so someone must have known this and thought we’d be a good home for this unwanted wild turtle, but it’s been years and I’ve never pieced together who it was.

Did you keep the turtle?

I was driving home from school run with my youngest in the front seat, looked in my mirror and saw an ambulance approaching, so I moved over a lane and it literally vanished, it was dual carriage way so I couldn’t work out where it had gone and my son had heard and seen it as well.

About 5 minutes later we go over the brow of the hill and into some traffic and there in front of us the ambulance.. the ambulance that never went past us.

This is my local area and I know for a fact there is no short cut, it’s a duel carriage way into a small town traffic no turn off.

Even my son who was about 12 at the time was so puzzled, we’ve just out it down to a glitch in the matrix!

I’ve also had another car related one where our cars on the driveway swooped places! It’s hard to explain but neither of us moved them, one was parked a bit wonky and both were still locked, so unless a thief just decided to swop them over we still to this day have no clue how they moved and then reparked in opposite places!

I seem to have car things as I’ve also waved at a friend twice, she drove towards me I waved and about 1 minute later she drove waved and looked a bit like WTF like ny face. We spoke about it and neither of us could explain it.

I see angels. Nobody else sees them. I can talk to them, touch them, hear them. They set me missions.
Im not psychotic, had two opinions from psychs recently (was diagnosed psychotic for a few years and on antipsychotic meds).
So my only conclusion is that they are in fact a reality, and I was chosen as they say.

Did you try and reach them or did they just come to you?

I used to joke that I had a helpful poltergeist.

Things would happen, like I would get out of bed in the morning, go to make a drink and find an appointment card for something that day.

Years later I found out I sleep walk so it was probably me being the helpful poltergeist.

Mr Yentob might still be there, stuck in the lavatory, waiting for someone to rescue him 😆

No, he was stuck though and escaped through the attic to a house next door where he knocked over a Himalayan salt lamp on the way out the window.

nevernotmaybe · 13/01/2026 05:23

I've had two odd things happen, and I never say to anyone because nobody will really believe it. The first is a classic, just before sunrise at the height of summer when I was 17ish (bright blue skies), two perfectly round bright things flying around the sky. Moving around each other, accelerating rapidly then stopping dead and hovering for long periods, then after a couple of minutes perfectly shot up upwards rapidly and vanished. I wasn't scared while watching, but after I realised I had been staring at them while in the garden with my back to the open door, suddenly all the sci fi films took hold as I looked at the dark house pmsl Never seen anything like it since.

The other was at university. The bin was across the long bedroom room in a student house and I regularly threw things across to it from the bed. I was about to go out, threw something in the bin, sat on the edge of the bed and checked my phone for a minute, then as I stood up the thing I threw into the bin minutes ago flew past my head just missing my ear and hit the wall. It took me a couple of seconds to even catch up, turned around and nothing. There was nowhere to hide, that side of the room had some draws and a bin nothing else, there was no window edge, the bed didn't have an underside. I still walked around the room for a few minutes not really knowing what I was expecting to find, and to this day that is the strangest thing that has ever happened to me.

My niece lost her son in tragic circumstances. He was a young adult.
Talking to her a few years later, she lives in another state, so don’t see them often.
Her son’s birthday date was 23rd.
She says everywhere she goes, she sees 23.
We went to sit at a table in a cafe. Sure enough … Table No. 23.
Chills

FiveMetresUp · 13/01/2026 05:38

I was in the bedroom of my house which was on the second floor at the back. I was sat on the bed with my toddler. We heard a tap tap sound on the window and something momentarily caught my eye. We both looked at the window but there was nothing there. A few seconds later, tap tap again. When we looked, there was a face at the window. I screamed the place down, grabbed DS and ran downstairs to my other DS and stayed there all night barricaded in. I just thought it was a potential burglar.

The thing is, in the morning, we looked at the back of the house and there was no way someone could have scaled the back of the building. There was nothing to climb onto, just a flat rendered wall.

It has always puzzled me.

Did you keep the turtle?

No, we took it to a wildlife sanctuary! Thankfully it was a local species.

TheAmusedQuail · 13/01/2026 06:31

15 or so years ago, living alone, I was woken from a dead sleep by my name being shouted loudly, almost in my ear. No one in the house (I checked obviously).

Never happened again, although I still live in the same house. It was creepy as fuck.

He’s stuck all right. He’s dead.

RIP.

I dropped / lost an earring outside of my flat. It was completely gone. I was really upset as the pair were my mother’s (she had them since her 21st).
I put the single earring in my vanity and every time I saw it, felt a bit sad.
months later I opened the vanity drawer to find the earring, complete with its partner. I have no idea how it happened - absolutely nuts.

smallglassbottle · 13/01/2026 07:01

I had a silver necklace that I sometimes wore. I tend to just stick my jewellery in a plastic box altogether and things get tangled up sometimes. My necklace chain had become all tangled up. I fiddled with it, but gave up as I wasn't able to untangle it. I put it into a small box and stuck it back into the drawer. About a week later I remembered the chain and went to get it out to try and untangle it again. I opened the box and it was sitting there completely fine. It had definitely been put away tangled because I remembered feeling frustrated at my attempts to put it right.

Omg I can’t read any more of this thread. It’s put the willies right up me.

@lilybit2025 Rats gnawing on wood sound like sawing and and are incredibly loud. I had them behind the baseboards of my kitchen for a (mercifully short) while and the sawing sound would wake me up from two rooms away.
