Hockorydickerydock · 11/01/2026 10:49

Car has broken down and I have asked many occasions to get car moved

1 tow truck to garage
2 hand brake off and move it
3 contact landlord to sort this out

AIBU to wanting to use my drive way??
and it infuriating they basically look at me like I’m mad and I shouldn’t have access to my driveway

can I pay a tow person to remove the vehicle?

YABU as you have not provided the obligatory diagram. This is MN law, where parking issues are discussed z

Jfmamjjason2 · 11/01/2026 11:05

How long has it been there.

Elsvieta · 11/01/2026 11:07

Weird. What do they actually say when you request it be moved?

BangFlash · 11/01/2026 11:08

Isn't it some level of offense to block a dropped curb? Not sure whether the police would be interested unfortunately.

Is the car taxed/mot?

I don't see why they're unwilling to push it though. Of course it shouldn't be blocking your drive. Unless it's only been there for 10 minutes or something.

shouldofgotamortage · 11/01/2026 11:09

I would tell them to move it today or you will push it out of the way yourself.

Roseyvibes · 11/01/2026 11:10

Report it as abandoned?

Spoodles · 11/01/2026 11:11

Surely the most relevant point in the whole situation. I'm quite impressed the OP managed to leave it out.

Coconutter24 · 11/01/2026 11:13

they basically look at me like I’m mad and I shouldn’t have access to my driveway

bit what do they say?

Chasingsquirrels · 11/01/2026 11:13

Report it as abandoned and blocking your ability to remove your own cat from the driveway.

rainbowstardrops · 11/01/2026 11:15

How long has it been there? Is there space to push it forward or back?

MammaWeasel · 11/01/2026 11:16

Do you have a dropped curb?

Owly11 · 11/01/2026 11:18

Chasingsquirrels · 11/01/2026 11:13

Report it as abandoned and blocking your ability to remove your own cat from the driveway.

The cat ought to be able to go under it or round it.

Lambington · 11/01/2026 11:27

If its blocking your legal access the police will remove it if you report it.

Hockorydickerydock · 11/01/2026 12:37

It’s been there for week now? And it’s a close and there isn’t. Drop curb as such

If there's no dropped curb, it isn't a driveway. As a poster on here once memorably said, 'it's a patio with aspirations'!

TheMorgenmuffel · 11/01/2026 12:39

If there isnt a drop kerb is it a legal driveway? I thought drives had to have a dropped kerb by law?

IsThisACrazyThoughtDec25 · 11/01/2026 12:39

Same here. Been there for 6 months and police and council all day there is nothing they can do.

Spoodles · 11/01/2026 12:43

So there's no dropped kerb which explains why they are looking at you like you're a little bit bonkers. They're not blocking a drive because you don't actually have a drive.

Arghhh. Kerb, kerb, kerb.

Took brain out to post!

HappiestSleeping · 11/01/2026 13:07

As others have said, the dropped kerb (or potential lack of) makes all the difference. If there is one, the police are only interested if your car is on the driveway, and exit is blocked. They won't do anything if someone is preventing you entering the driveway.

ThejoyofNC · 11/01/2026 13:09

Call the police and report it as abandoned.

bignewprinz · 11/01/2026 13:10

I had this once. Fortunately the car was unlocked, so I went in, took the handbrake off, left in neutral and rolled it out the way. Actually I rolled it right the way down the road which must have confused the hell out of them when they came back, but hey ho.

Edited to add: if this is a modern automatic the above won't be possible.

Aplstrudl · 11/01/2026 13:23

Can’t they push it out of the way?

Spoodles · 11/01/2026 13:37

ThejoyofNC · 11/01/2026 13:09

Call the police and report it as abandoned.

Why would she report it as abandoned. It's perfectly legal for it to be there and she knows who the owners are.
