Hockorydickerydock · 11/01/2026 10:49

Car has broken down and I have asked many occasions to get car moved

1 tow truck to garage
2 hand brake off and move it
3 contact landlord to sort this out

AIBU to wanting to use my drive way??
and it infuriating they basically look at me like I’m mad and I shouldn’t have access to my driveway

can I pay a tow person to remove the vehicle?

I was walking back from the garage having bought a few litres of petrol.

As bad luck would have it I can't have screwed the cap on properly. Whilst enjoying a 🚬 despite being a non smoker, I tripped over the kerb as I got to my driveway.

My bad luck continued as unfortunately the petrol splashed all over the car as my cigarette dropped out of my mouth (probably due to the coughing fit I was having as I'm not a smoker).

It's my truth and I'm sticking to it...

It’s been there for week now? And it’s a close and there isn’t. Drop curb as such

It’s not a driveway.

Well your defence all hinges on there isn’t. Drop curb as such as I'd question how could could trip over something that wasn't actually there ...
Well Judge Judy would question it ! Wink

I probably tripped over the ops cat which had finally figured out how to get off the driveway.

Were you carrying two containers of equal liquid capacity to keep your spinal alignment equi-balanced ?
Otherwise this blaming the cat is just shabby blame appropriation

So there's no dropped kerb which explains why they are looking at you like you're a little bit bonkers. They're not blocking a drive because you don't actually have a drive.

Photos show I have a drive way

The photos are actually not at all helpful and don't show you have a drive.

I agree!

olympicsrock · 11/01/2026 14:26

Show us the kerb or lack of it…

CarrotVan · 11/01/2026 14:27

In the photo of the house, the lump of hedge is basically where the broken car is?

that doesn’t look like it blocks anything

Report it as abandoned and blocking your ability to remove your own cat from the driveway.

If it is taxed and has an MOT then it’s not abandoned.

From my understanding the OP is blocked from abetting her driveway, not leaving it.

The police will get involved if your car is being prevented from leaving the property, but not entering it.

Mum2Fergus · 11/01/2026 14:35

So are you claiming that the car tucked behind the big bush is blocking access to your driveway? If so, if you could navigate exit round the bush you could certainly navigate around the car, so you’re not blocked in/out of your driveway.

That’s a ridiculous law and needs changing!

That black car is in front of my drive way not where it is on that photo from my ring bell

But neither photo show your drive (or rather how you access it) OP so we can’t really see whether you’re reasonable or not.

Why not just take a photo of what it actually looks like now?

You're doing a rather poor job of explaining the set up.

If you're saying there's no dropped kerb because your driveway leads off a communal parking area, so doesn't front onto the road (ours is the same, if that's so), then it would help to say that!

But, neither photo is a wide enough angle to actually show that!

Spoodles · 11/01/2026 14:56

You're making this all so much more complicated than it needs to be.

So far we've seen no evidence you have a driveway that is being blocked. Your posts suggest this is an area with a kerb. Is the car parked alongside the kerb? How is the second communal looking parking area accessed? Is it from the driveway without a dropped kerb you're referring to?

I'm beginning to understand why your neighbours have ignored your many requests.

MrsMitford3 · 11/01/2026 14:59

I can't tell anything at all from those pictures tbh

Indeed. You can't even tell if it's the same house in both pictures.

PGmicstand · 11/01/2026 15:05

Do you have a dropped kerb which lets you access your driveway?
Is the neighbours car blocking the dropped kerb?

ElBandito · 11/01/2026 15:06

I think people here are being unnecessarily picky. If there's no pavement there won't be a kerb to be dropped. We've probably all seen layouts similar to the one OP has on newer builds estates, although showing a picture of a car not blocking a drive is a tad confusing.
It's really starting to get annoying when people demand a sodding diagram for the most basic situations. It isn't that funny anymore.
YANBU OP, blocking your drive for a week is totally off.

dentalflosser · 11/01/2026 15:06

A diagram would be more helpful OP. From the photos of a car behind a hedge to me it looks like you are objecting to a car being parked outside your house.
I can’t see how a car behind a hedge is completely blocking your driveway.

Allseeingallknowing · 11/01/2026 14:38

That’s a ridiculous law and needs changing!

Parking over a driveway when someone isn’t using it, is an inconvenience, compared to blocking someone in, which could be life threatening if you needed to get out to take someone to hospital. The two are very different.
I can very much understand why the police would get involved with one and not the other.
