To hope we win tomorrow (light hearted)

We've drawn Crystal Palace in the FA Cup and as season ticket holders we've been able to get tickets in a stadium that only holds 4,500 tops. We have a plastic pitch only 100x60m and we're not even in the national leagues, which are the top 5 layers. We're at level 7, I think, maybe 8. It's a televised match if anyone wants to watch some truly amazing (not necessarily in a good way🤣) football.

Is it too much to hope that we might become giant killers?

Congratulations, OP!

So very pleased for you and your DH. My OH says the same. Funnily enough we live a stone’s throw from Fratton Park! Now that’s a rollercoaster … Grin

If we get Portsmouth we'll be there!

OP used to live by Baffins Pond.

Bloody well done to Macclesfield. I love a good giantkilling.

That's very nice of you. We don't play that well normally, it's just that they had nothing to lose, I think. It wasn't your best day. I thought you played up to the muddy colour of your away strip 😆, sadly.

I did laugh when they asked players to stay of the pitch. Not a chance!

Crowd, not players, they were supposed to be on the pitch 🤣

No offence, but I really hope you don’t get Portsmouth as I want them to lose tomorrow!

I just caught the end of the game. Absolutely brilliant stuff!
It's what the FA cup is all about.

We're doing our best to give you the away day at spurs that you deserve.

FruitWordSalad · 10/01/2026 19:21

Really happy for you OP, I've always enjoyed my trips to Moss Rose. Not only giant killers, the BIGGEST giant killers ever! I love love love lower league football, just as well it's been a very long time since my team were in the higher divisions. But nothing beats an FA Cup giant killing. Especially after all the rubbish your team has been through over three years. You deserve this.

You never know with football.

I know not a lot about football but I read on Wikipedia that it is a game of two halves, with oranges at the break. Is that true?

(I like oranges)

Often jumpers are used for goalposts.

We often see the Pompey Apprentices in the Tesco by Fratton Park buying their lunch.

Nice groups of lads, very polite, very athletic. They often go for a Meal Deal and a big load of salad(s).

My son when he was a little lad met Peter Crouch once. Crouchie bent all the way down from the hips, and smiled and signed his autograph book. Just lovely.

Football is such a community at times Smile

Oh Peter Crouch is a gem. He's a distantish relative of friends of mine and I've met him at a couple of parties. More like seen from a distance really but clearly a lovely man. My favourite quote.

"Peter, what would you have been of you hadn't been a footballer? "

"A virgin".

Well of course the result was needed to justify what followed but I've certainly enjoyed the bottle of bicycle and the Indian delivery! 😁

What a day, one I will remember forever. It's very, very, sweet, because we have just come out of 4 years of relentless medical issues, which nearly broke me. The timing was spectacular.

I meant to put over the years rather than over three years!

As for Crouch, let's not forget he paid for sex with a teenage prostitute...

Thank you. I'm not sure whether others on the thread realise that the club was driven into the ground by a pair of brothers from Iraq. Finally bankruptcy forced them to relinquish their hold after 2 years of losing managers and players because they weren't being paid. John Askey, a fabulous manager for us was utterly shafted by them. So we were chucked down the league from the 5th to the 9th level, at which point the council bought the ground because the club is a very important part of the community.

Then Bob Smethurst (Leasing.com owner, local man) bought the club, credits it with saving his life from alcoholism, got his mate Robbie Savage to come in. We then got back to back promotions under Robbie Savage, lost the next promotion in the playoffs but got it second time round, so now in the 6th level.

Then just before the start of this season Robbie made a statement that he would stay with the club and signed for 2 further years ..... and 48 hours later he left for Forest Green ..... taking our three best players with him .... and took a 4th early in the season.

So we needed John Rooney to step up an manage and we were then 5 of our best players down. Starting the season with the heart ripped out of the team and a virgin manager.

I am never going to forgive Robbie for the way he did what he did. But sod him tonight. Roooo-neeeey!

Sadly a familiar tale to many of us. Similar happened at my club. What happened to Macclesfield must make today's win even sweeter.

Couldn't get much sweeter! I am so pleased for John Rooney. He's been in the shadow of his immensely football talented brother for so long, and it turns out he's probably a better manager. He certainly is today. I hope he's having a great evening.
