To hope we win tomorrow (light hearted)

We've drawn Crystal Palace in the FA Cup and as season ticket holders we've been able to get tickets in a stadium that only holds 4,500 tops. We have a plastic pitch only 100x60m and we're not even in the national leagues, which are the top 5 layers. We're at level 7, I think, maybe 8. It's a televised match if anyone wants to watch some truly amazing (not necessarily in a good way🤣) football.

Is it too much to hope that we might become giant killers?

Good luck to Macclesfield..its a tough task but it's a one off match and anything can happen. I'll be rooting for you.

Imdunfer · 09/01/2026 16:34

Oh, and can I just add that Crystal Palace have been complete gems and given us, a tiny club in a little town, always struggling for money, the entire gate receipts that they were entitled to half of. That's going to be about £60,000, a fortune to us, a weeks pay to one of their big players. None of our players cost that much to buy or are paid that much in a year

Even Rooney, probably, and he's the manager 😉

As a Palace supporter (born and bred in sight of Selhurst Park) I hope you lose.

Sorry, but that's how it is.

We've had a crap Xmas and New Year and to lose to M'field would really be the last straw.

landoflostcontent · 09/01/2026 16:58

I am married to a devout Crystal Palace supporter of some 50+ years (now exiled to the West Country) who also has a very soft spot for the underdog and is somewhat conflicted. I may go out tomorrow but wish both sides good luck and have an enjoyable day

Netcurtainnelly · 09/01/2026 16:59

You never know with football.

FuzzyWolf · 09/01/2026 17:00

I hope all goes well for you tomorrow.

Oh I don't think I could begrudge you that. Could we just score one goal, is that OK?

That's very generous of you, thank you!

Plan is to catch the bus over to town to avoid the parking issues, brunch in town and walk out to the ground. It's not my game, I go to keep DH company but I do enjoy the big matches. We played Chelsea at Stamford Bridge once and that was awesome. And the DH's home team Portsmouth at Fratton Park with very conflicted feelings. We held Oxford to a draw at Oxford one year. It's the joy of the FA Cup, to be drawn against a much higher team, and the best of course, a Premier League team.

Good luck tomorrow - we'll be rooting for you! (from a Brighton household 😁)

Fair play to Palace regarding the gate receipts though.

IAmKerplunk · 09/01/2026 18:28

Aw Op I can sense your excitement! What an occasion 😀
Is it televised? If so I will watch - love cheering on the underdog especially in the FA cup where anything can happen 🤞🏼

Yes that’s fantastic. Is that usual practice for premier league clubs? It would be nice to think so

This is a generous move by Crystal Palace. Props to them for doing it.

That's really put a smile on my face I think that's such a great thing for them to do

I hope you have a lovely day out and that it's a nice atmosphere

Imdunfer · 09/01/2026 18:33

Update. The pitch is clear of snow and passed for play but the police said they might have to stop the spectators due to snow on the pavement in the area.

There is currently an army of fans with shovels out clearing the pavements!

We've never had it happen before, to my recollection. It's really great of them.

I'm really disappointed that nobody is saying "Rooney is your manager!!??"

Yes, he is, he used to play for us as well .... his brother played a bit better though 🤣

Really generous of Palace to allow you to keep the income from gate receipts. Love that kind of generous spirit and wishing your team well. Above all, enjoy the experience.

IAmKerplunk · 09/01/2026 18:42

Ha ha I did know he was your manager 🤣 Has he had the same affect on your town that Reynolds/Can’t remember name had on Wrexham? 😜

Very generous of Crystal Palace - bigger clubs should help out smaller clubs where they can.

Hope your town is buzzing tomorrow!

12.15 kickoff, don't miss it.

I'm right on the centre line, dark blue puffa, club beanie hat, 6 rows up on the aisle in the smaller stand, I'll wave at you 😁

I'll bet the Palace fans are going to be thrilled that they are allowed to stand at their end, their ground is all seated and "real fans" love standing.

Sadly he doesn't bring the same money with him. And it's his first season as a manager, too. He's doing well. He's possibly a better manager than his brother, he's also a sight better looking, imho!

The underdogs normally surprise in the FA Cup rounds. Good luck. Wrap up warm and enjoy the atmosphere x

That’s amazing of Crystal Palace. Very generous. I hope you win!!

blankcanvas3 · 09/01/2026 20:58

Well Wrexham are beating Nottingham Forest so why can’t you win tomorrow! I’m just round the corner from Macclesfield so I’ll be cheering you on!

IAmKerplunk · 10/01/2026 12:04

Good luck today op! I bet the atmosphere is buzzing!

Rehabblue · 10/01/2026 12:13

I'm watching now, hope
