To hope we win tomorrow (light hearted)

We've drawn Crystal Palace in the FA Cup and as season ticket holders we've been able to get tickets in a stadium that only holds 4,500 tops. We have a plastic pitch only 100x60m and we're not even in the national leagues, which are the top 5 layers. We're at level 7, I think, maybe 8. It's a televised match if anyone wants to watch some truly amazing (not necessarily in a good way🤣) football.

Is it too much to hope that we might become giant killers?

Delighted for you @Imdunfer

I hope you really enjoyed the game. The devout Crystal Palace supporter from my post of yesterday asks me on his behalf to salute your team and says the best side won. I had better go now and make sure he isn't cutting up his Crystal Palace scarf although I doubt he will wear it in public for some time...

That is so lovely of him thank you. They were amazing. The physchology of going out onto the pitch pretty much knowing you can't win, and that even scoring one goal would be a huge success, just completely released them to play a fearless game.

Crystal Palace just didn't know what to do with us or the pitch. The had no time to plan their passes and they had no room to put power into them. If they had the ball would just sail into the crowd! I knew we could win as the second half started and instead of making a big push for 10 minutes, they began to play down to our level, hoofing it around like an 8th league club. Now we play that game week in week out, and we know our tiny plastic pitch like the back of our hands. CP looked afraid of the surface, and bemused by our style of play.

I'm immensely proud of how they held their nerve after the CP goal and battled out extra time.

But OMG wake me up someone what a result!

I've been part of footballing history today!!

You did it! Fantastic

@Imdunfer Congratulations! Bet the atmosphere in the stand was amazing!

Grown adults, (mostly pensioners and at least half women where we sit) screaming and crying! DH has a newish pacemaker that has been very newly set to demand based mode, and a very recent ablation to stop the top half beating too fast. I was quite worried at the end, he was definitely over excited! Seems OK now we're home.

GIANTKILLERS!

It’s very special isn’t it?

Absolutely is. My dad played in the FA cup for a non league team. A very special cup because it’s for anyone and everyone.

Goonie1 · 10/01/2026 16:42

Congratulations OP! Couldn’t be happier for you. THIS is exactly why this cup is so special! Absolutely anything can happen….and it just did! Enjoy the celebrations and fingers crossed you get a good draw for the next round!

CP have got form for beating City so I reckon that would be a good one!

wizzler · 10/01/2026 16:48

So pleased for you OP. Sounds as if you had a brilliant day

murasaki · 10/01/2026 16:50

What a wonderful day for you both!

City would be good money but given the way they've treated Exeter, including not taking their foot off the gas, they're shits. I'd rather another prem side away. Just not villa, please, should we make it past spurs, as we hate a good banana skin (stevenage, anyone? Doncaster?) and you lot are top banana right now.

Yes!! That’s my team 😂
and I’ve been watching them for 35 years so no “glory hunting” jibes please 🤣

murasaki · 10/01/2026 16:53

If macc draw another prem side, I reckon they're guaranteed tv money which would be good.

Livpool · 10/01/2026 16:55

Well done OP!

Lostatsea10 · 10/01/2026 16:56

Lifelong Palace fan here (to my shame today!) Well done you! What a game for Macclesfield. You deserved the win and it was the right result. You played the game of your lives. The fact we seem to not know what to do with the round thing at our feet does not take any of the huge credit your players deserve. I got all teary watching the fans on the pitch at the end and the Macclesfield players faces. That’s what the FA cup is about and why that cup is so special.

murasaki · 10/01/2026 16:59

I reckon you should hope Spurs beat us (no bother to me, we've got other fish to fry, the Europa League and a CL place so could do without it). Then you get them at their gaff, big money and well, lads, it's Spurs.

Definitely! The next round match for Macc needs to be on tv regardless of which team they end up playing.

HarrietofFire · 10/01/2026 17:02

Delighted for you OP!

Ohcrap082024 · 10/01/2026 17:05

Congratulations @ImdunferWhat a result! We are a mixed Charlton/Arsenal household so my DH is delighted. What an experience.

So very pleased for you and your DH. My OH says the same. Funnily enough we live a stone’s throw from Fratton Park! Now that’s a rollercoaster … Grin

HappyFace2025 · 10/01/2026 17:51

Fantastic result Macclesfield! It's what the FA Cup is all about! Hope you get another big name in the next round.

That's very nice of you. We don't play that well normally, it's just that they had nothing to lose, I think. It wasn't your best day. I thought you played up to the muddy colour of your away strip 😆, sadly.

I did laugh when they asked players to stay of the pitch. Not a chance!
