Would you inform the school?

My friend recently got into an argument with her friend. The argument started off as a conversation which quickly turned into an argument, (my friends friend accusing her of things, name calling her etc) in the end my friend was spat at. She was horrified but does not want to do anything about it. My friend’s “friend” is a teacher. AIBU to think my friend should inform the school of this behaviour? Im tempted to do so myself! Our children both attend the school she teaches at. What would you feelings be?

Like I said, I’ll keep you updated. You do not know any facts or grey areas, so its best to say nothing then isn’t it. Believe me this will be handled correctly and factually.

We don't know facts because you keep changing the story 🤣

It’s part of teacher training to maintain a certain level of decorum outside of work.

she’s not upholding the values of the school and can be disciplined.

Regardless

People are insinuating she can't handle children reasonably because she reacted in this one way in one instance with an adult

And I agree with them. I wouldn’t want someone like that teaching my kids. Disgusting.

FunCrab · 11/01/2026 16:28

Spitting is wrong full stop.
Spitting in the UK is generally a criminal offence under common assault/battery
It does not matter that the person is a teacher.
If you did not witness this first hand you cannot report it as your information is second hand.
Your friend has interpreted what happened and told you but if you did not witness you should not report as police will be looking for the facts and not heresay.

Of course she cant, what normal decent human can muster up such rage for no good reason that you would spit? I certainly cannot think of any reason for it. Ew.

The story does not keep changing. I answer peoples questions when they ask, and so more is added to peoples knowledge of the situation….. but that does not mean anything about the situation has changed in any way. Any way, you are not the head teacher, you are not the police, you are not a parent at the school, ( well maybe you are, if a teacher at a school near you leaves suddenly you may know why ) and you seem to be more concerned that someone would dare challenge an individual that has committed assault than you are about the victim of that assault or those who wish to inform the relevant people. So your fabricated version of the situation is neither here nor there 👍

@Winterstorms2Goodness OP!! The amount of people on here who think it’s ok to spit on people aggressively (aka assault and a crime) because “we need teachers” 😂

of course it’s not OK. Definitely go to the police. Teacher may lose job due to this abhorrent behaviour.

I think pennylane is potentially the spitter due to the amount of crazy posts questioning you!

disgusting behaviour and should not be in charge of kids

Thank you, some sort of guilty conscience at play perhaps? Perhaps capable of similar behaviour themselves? I cant get over how disgusting it is

Teachers are allowed opinions. 🤷‍♀️. Of course no one should fe reporting anything. You all need to grow up. 🙄

Teachers are allowed opinions? Why of course they are! And an excellent example of a good teacher or human being in general is one who can present their opinion and accept others opinions in a civil, respectful manner. But are they allowed to commit assault?

I'm glad your friend is reporting her to the police, nobody deserves to be spat on during an argument.

Winterstorms2 · 11/01/2026 13:28

Well thank you for that entirely incorrect conclusion of events. Fascinating, truly. I will be sure to update this thread when all appropriate action has been taken. You sound like the sort of person who would tell a woman who was raped “well you had a short skirt on you were probably asking for it” “be careful your not lying about it now, you do know police will investigate you as well” “are you sure you didn’t provoke the bloke first?” Disgusting. Take a look at yourself and the kind of people and behaviours you are actively advocating.

You really will come put with any old crap to make yourself sound right wont you?

This post is madness.

Where’s the grey area? She spat or she didn’t. It’s not difficult.

I didn't say there was a grey area. I said I didn't believe it happened quite the way OP portrays. She portrays a discussion that simply escalated to the point of the teacher spitting yet implies her friend was entirely innocent other than, perhaps, some "raised voices".

Changing her stance on whether she liked or disliked the teacher suggests either her friend was equally unpleasant (e.g spat at the teacher and the teacher retaliated) or that this incident is entirely out of character for the teacher and OP's ego is bruised by being told she's unreasonable and she's trying to drum up sympathy.

Of course, I don't know anything for certain except that OP's storytelling is somewhat inconsistent and she's very choosy about what she replies to and is sarcastic and a little unpleasant when she does so.

AutumnAllTheWay · 11/01/2026 18:50

Have the poster who keep harping on about the actual alleged spitting actually read through the whole thread?

The op clearly has it in for this woman and has for a long time. She does keep changing her story. Most of us are skeptical it even happened the way she says.

Nobody is defending the spitting!

Now shes saying anyone questioning her is the type of person who blames rape victims for what happened. Absolute crazy lady.

Thats fine. You think what you will it still doesn’t change facts or reality, all of which will be thoroughly investigated. Weather i have it in for this woman or not doesn’t change facts or reality either seeing as though i wont be the o e doing the reporting.

Also, calling someone who wants to do what is right a crazy lady, and not the woman doing the spitting is strange. I would suggest re-tweaking your moral compass.

Again, with the determination to constantly imply that I and many others think spitting is ok! Not the case at all.

Stop lying.

rainbowsandraspberrygin · 11/01/2026 19:24

Even if she does have it in for this teacher - spitting is still a crime/assault. It doesn’t make spitting ok.

how would you react if one of your kids teachers came and spat in your face?! Would you say “oh it’s ok - we need teachers!”

why would she lie? It’s not her reporting it!!

I don’t understand this thread at all.

But that is literally what you are doing “crazy lady”. There is a whole post saying it should not be reported because teachers have a hard enough time as it is, and are difficult enough to find as it is. Oh I’m sorry let us all hush hush the dreadful behaviour perish the thought we cannot get enough teachers because they cannot behave in a decent manner.

Your friend taking it to the police IS the way to handle this. It is assault and the assailant should face the charges that she is due and any consequences in work. However if she doesn't not want to report it, there will be little that work can do. You can't sack someone based on something that a randomer has told you.

Witchcraftandhokum · 11/01/2026 19:54

So you're prepared to ruin her career and possibly her life?

Lightuptheroom · 11/01/2026 20:18

Basically your friend reports to police as an assault.
Person doing the spitting will be called in for interview under caution, outcome can be anything from told the case is under review, bail etc etc
Workplace would be informed and depending on whether a charge has been made and the schools policies , person doing the splitting might be suspended pending full investigation as it's a criminal offence.
It can take a long time for the police to decide what they are doing in this sort of case, particularly if they need to send it to the CPS. During that time your friend and the teacher wouldn't be permitted to be in contact with each other.
In short, the teachers school will be informed that the police have an open assault allegation.
