Replacing crisps

My new year's resolution was to eat less crisps. My empty large doritos bag says I've failed. I love the crunch, the spice salt...

What alternatives are there? Don't dare suggest an apple 🤣

Cucumber slices sprinkled with tajin seasoning. Absolutely divine. Has that crunchy, salty thing going on. I actually prefer it to crisps now!

I switched to walkers baked crisps so if I can’t resist the urge then at least it’s not as unhealthy and the packets are small!

They're not right.
The not right was why I suggested own brand tortilla chips. They don't quite hit the spot.

5128gap · 06/01/2026 09:22

Buy multi packs not family size.
Try popchips.
Salted pop corn.
Potato skins in the air fryer with salsa
Make yourself have veg sticks with a dip before you start the crisps to take the edge off.

I wish someone hadn't mentioned Worcester Sauce French Fries because they are just so totally moreish.
Sigh. I also have ADHD and am obsessed with the CRUNCH. I now stick to rice cakes- boring, not as good as Worcester sauce french fries but considerably healthier

GameofPhones · 06/01/2026 10:00

Carrot sticks dipped in olive oil, vinegar and salt are delicious and crunchy. (The supermarket carrot batons are too soft, though - you need to cut sticks from the whole carrot.)

LittleGreenDragons · 06/01/2026 11:12

I'm addicted to hoola hoops only. Specifically the ready salted but other flavours will suffice in an emergency. Nothing else has that cruuunchhhhh!

😫

I'm thinking about the money I'll save by not buying them , I love the keoghs crisps , not sure if they are available in the UK but the local shop I have to drive to has them at 3 euro 30 if I travel a bit further they are 2 euro at the cheapest on sale . I do have some in the cupboard from Christmas but so far I've resisted.

That sounds interesting. Could you put Tyrells Naked Crisps in the app for me please?
I've always hoped they are not to bad as crisps go. Would be good to have a green light though!

Here you are @oviraptor21 Tyrrells Naked Crisps.

I'm a crisp addict and hated the prospect of giving them up when I had to lose weight. So instead I limited myself to one packet on a Friday, and it was something to look forward to every week. But I found that the craving reduced and sometimes I'd wake up on Saturday and realise I'd forgotten my Friday crisps, so I'd have them on Saturday instead. After a bit I didn't bother on the Saturday and waited till next Friday, then the next thing you know I'd find I'd gone 3 weeks without crisps, then suddenly, I didn't think about crisps any more. But occasionally when I decide I want some, I'll binge-eat 6 packs in one sitting, then remember why I stopped, and that'll be me for ages, till the next urge hits. But I'd rather some every few months or so than every week. Good luck OP!

Clarityiskey · 06/01/2026 17:52

Snacka Jacks are convenient and much lower in fat than crisps. But still cruchy

cinnamongirl123 · 06/01/2026 18:12

I am the same as you OP. It’s tough, you have to try different things and see what works for you. Some things I eat instead:
-bbq pop chips
-Proper Chips bbq lentil crisps (from Tesco/Aldi)
-rice crackers - the flat round ones - salted or chili
-pretzels
-nuts - cashews, walnuts, almonds, dry-roasted peanuts
-cheese & crackers
-olives, artichoke hearts
-gherkins
-Aldi lentil rings and lentil chips
-popcorn
-twiglets
-breadsticks with a nice dip such as guacamole or baba ganoush (I’m not a hummus fan)
-baked crisps

Happy New Year and good luck OP!

PIKNIK20 · 06/01/2026 18:15

try gluten free crisps: I use SEABROOK.

Mydadsbirthday · 06/01/2026 18:32

Popcorn
Nuts
I quite like Ryvita - same crunch. Can add a tiny scrape of butter.

You really don't need a popcorn maker. It's so easy to make popcorn on the hob. I never understand people who buy a separate appliance for it or buy microwave popcorn.

Chickpeas seem to explode in the airfryer for me

That will be because there is too much moisture in them, you need to dry them off with kitchen paper or a tea towel first, then by spritzing with an oil spray they will crisp up, you do need to shake them around a bit during cooking to get them evenly crisp though

Mumsknot · 06/01/2026 18:50

Lentil crisps - I love them. Half the calories of crisps (called Proper).

MidnightMusing5 · 06/01/2026 18:53

Increasing my iron levels has put my crisp munching at bay

WhamBamThankU · 06/01/2026 18:53

Salt and vinegar rice cakes are the closest I get to a bag of crisps! Sometimes on their own, sometimes with cream cheese

Whatinthedoopla · 06/01/2026 18:54

Cut up a tortilla wrap into triangles, add paprika and place it in the oven/air fryer

SugarCoatSandwich · 06/01/2026 18:55

Teaspoons of marmite sort out my salt craving

Tiredofwhataboutery · 06/01/2026 18:59

I eat crackers instead of crisps. I like Aldis sea salt and black pepper ones. It fills the desire for a satisfying crunch / salt hit. I can just eat a couple which I can’t do with crisps. Possibly not healthier though!

Ladyofthepond · 06/01/2026 19:00

ADHD-er here and my gosh the amount of crisps I have binged on in my lifetime is insane! The crunch scratches the dopamine itch!

ADHD meds changed my eating habits for the better, but before that I basically stopped snacking, and just ate three massive meals a day, being actually full helped me stop reaching for the snacks late at night.

I probably have crisps a few times a year now, I’d love to say I can just have a few and stop…but I still eat the whole bag 😂

MrsLindaBelcher · 06/01/2026 19:06

Kallo beetroot veggie cakes have a great crunch to them. They remind me of monster munch texture wise and taste surprisingly good.

Perrylobster · 06/01/2026 19:12

Hereforthecommentz · 05/01/2026 18:12

If you like them carry on. Life's too short. I love crisp especially chicken sensations, I could eat a whole share size bag.

I checked these out recently on the Yuka app and they came up as a green (good) much to my surprise! Not healthy as such but not a highly processed UPF like many of the others

Liveafr · 06/01/2026 19:12

Spicy crispy chick peas. Mix a table spoon of olive oils with the spice of your choice (curry, tandoori...), then add the chick peas (1 can). Mix well then fry for 15 minutes.

brunettemic · 06/01/2026 19:12

Why do you need to replace them? Just have a smaller packet. Have the odd multipack packet and you still get your crisps. Being healthier isn’t about demonising foods and saying they’re bad.
