Feel a bit mean, but so excited for tomorrow

Dh back to work
Dc back to school

I am the type who normally feels sad holidays are over and kids are back and so on, but this holiday hasn’t been great and I cannot wait for 9 am tomorrow.
I intend to stop at the shop for treats and spend until pick up watching Netflix shows…blissfully alone! (aside from the dogs-who are no trouble)

Except OP will be on here complaining in a few years about seeking work mid 50's and working until 67 years.
it's hard. It's all hard.
Full time work when your kids are little (me with 3 since twins were 5 months). it's hard.
work when you're 67 years. It's hard.
choose your hard!
I'm out the gap at age 55 (6 years time) with defined benefit scheme (teacher).
will suffer OPs kids tomorrow (not as smug as OP) ... and bide my time.

You sound awful. So bitter. You have zero idea about my life. How to piss on someone’s chips.

Pavementworrier

honest question why is your go to that shes a ‘drain on society?’ Aside from the fact that a sahm isn’t a drain on society, she could have any job with irregular hours or days!!

Do you work OP?

I do

You sound a happy house maybe you all feel the same

namechangetheworld · 04/01/2026 21:01

The bitterness on this thread is hilarious.

Mine are back to school on Tuesday and I have a day off because I work part time. I'm going to take the decorations down, catch up on Stranger Things and be a drain on society. Can't bloody wait!

Mummymimosa · 04/01/2026 21:01

You’re not mean at all! Enjoy your day! I’m back to work tomorrow but can’t wait for the drive in 😂 I will be stopping for a takeaway coffee and snacks, listening to all MY favourite songs.. bliss!

Not bitter at all. We have no mortgage and 6 months left on a personal loan. Only because DC in private school.
we all make our choices and I respect yours. I don’t presume you are bitter (or lazy).
Enjoy your day …and many of them. Nice that you needed to post on here about a rare day off.

livvymc · 04/01/2026 21:05

Jesus fucking Christ why does everyone jump to the automatic conclusion that OP either doesn’t work or is part time?! I’m full time, have 3 days off a week, work shifts so have full days home alone with no kids etc, have worked all over the last few weeks other than Xmas day! I’ll be sitting in my pjs for the whole day tomorrow eating as I’m home alone for the first time in weeks, I’ll be eating leftover Xmas food and watching the programmes I’ve been waiting to watch! Enjoy OP, I’m sure you fully deserve it! We can love our kids/families to the ends of the earth but still need some alone time!

Saltnchilli · 04/01/2026 21:06

SqishySqashmas · 04/01/2026 18:06

OP do you not realise that a large majority of people reading this will in fact be going back to work having had very little break at all.

I am doing the same as OP tomorrow, enjoying the peace because I then have 3 x 12 hour night shifts coming up this week. Just because people don’t work mon-fri 9-5 doesn’t mean we don’t work and can’t relax when the kids are at school.

Mummypie21 · 04/01/2026 21:12

I have Tuesday free this week. Children are in school and DH is at work. I'm going to go to a pilates class, watch Netflix and then maybe go out for a coffee. I do have a job (probably like OP) and will be back at work on Wednesday as a Youth Mentor.

That’s fantastic, you are very lucky, be grateful for that 💓 no mortgage and children in private school is something many of us would pray for.

What does the fact of people working full or part time or whatever have to do with anything?

Im totally bemused at the posters, including OP, falling over themselves to assure the bitter sounding ones that they do in fact work and aren’t a “drain on society”.

I don’t work - so fucking what? Was I not supposed to contribute to the thread? 😂

Luck has nothing to do with it. It’s all hard, hard work and difficult choices.
I’m very grateful, we are mass goers and are very thankful for the ability to work. Both of us, He has two jobs and I have one full time and one part time.
But it’s back to choices…

Bishbashbush · 04/01/2026 21:19

Jealous! That sounds like bliss! I’m a cheeky bugger though as I’ve just had two weeks off with the kids 😂 Back to real life tomorrow. Enjoy your cozy, relaxing day.

When i was SAHM I loved when they all went back as I get zero time on holidays.

Now I work school hours & get absolutely no time alone. I've got a 6 ep show I'm dying to watch in peace, with no opportunity on the horizon. So, a bit jealous!! I'm looking to change jobs & hoping I can find one with some RDO's or different hours.

Luck has a lot to do with it. A lot of us carry out "hard hard work" and still can't afford private school.
Anyway OP, ignore some of the sad people on this thread and enjoy your peaceful day tomorrow x

Mrsnothingthanks · 04/01/2026 21:25

I'm really looking forward to getting back to to work and using my brain/doing something worthwhile/earning money. Have loved the last two weeks' with my little girl but ready to be back to it tomorrow 😀

I’m working tomorrow without having had any break over the whole festive period and I wouldn’t grudge the OP her day to herself at all - I hope you thoroughly enjoy every minute! 🥰

halfbakedbutternutsquash · 04/01/2026 21:32

It's amazing how you can post about anything on here... Light-hearted thread about a day off, for example...and still someone will get offended. Any excuse to come out of the woodwork and try to make you feel bad for no reason, such as daring to be glad of having a break. And while they're at it, make a few derogatory and presumptuous comments about stay at home mums and people who don't work. Such miserable little people.

Nancylancy · 04/01/2026 21:47

I'm super jealous of your day tomorrow OP!
My kids have been A NIGHTMARE these school holidays, and I have worked most of it besides the bank holidays so I've not even been with them as much as DH has 😅.
Does the lack of routine and excessive chocolate just make them all feral? My 6 year old has been like a stroppy teenage and my 3 year old just bonkers constant tantrums!

I had planned to take them out for the day, but it's snowing so if I'm stuck in the house I'm going to take a leaf out of your book - give them their tablets and headphones and binge netflix all day like a good mother 😅 x

Confusedmum74858 · 04/01/2026 21:53

ill be glad to get back to “normal” too - these last few days since new year have really dragged on!
