Its something dd asked me and dh.
We've discovered we used to know/ met a few. I had to explain some were v famous years ago.
I went to school with some foreign royalty but later ended up shagging minor rock stars (had a song written about me)
Also in proper jobs met many influential politicians and a dictator.
Now have boring job
Anyone else?

OP posts:
ColinOfficeTrolley · 01/01/2026 11:48

I shagged someone v famous but I'm not telling you who.

I live next door to a very famous singer, but I'm not telling you who.

My mum is famous, but I'm not telling you her name.

All of the above is absolute bollocks and just as pointless as the OP.

Garroty · 01/01/2026 11:51

Calvin Harris (then Adam) was a pal of mine at school. We're in occasional touch now but not really close.

BloodyHellBob · 01/01/2026 11:52

My mum met a woman who knew the woman that knit The Clangers. I hope I’ve not outted myself 😁

DonaldJohnTrump · 01/01/2026 11:52

Loads and loads but I is one!

That is easily the best celebrity claim I’ve ever seen on here.

awestruck silence at proximity to glory

x2boys · 01/01/2026 11:53

Lisa Riley was a couple of years below me at school
I knew who she was as she.always very bubbly.

Unbeatable claim to fame

Fabulous!

Oldandgreyer · 01/01/2026 12:12

I am famous. Well in certain circles.
My name has been in (probably) every newspaper in the last few years.

CountryVic · 01/01/2026 12:13

My younger brother is a professional football player in Australia. He came to my work before Christmas, I told him to wait in the car, he's a right show off and loves to wind me up, went and had a chat to my boss and bought all the raffle tickets for sale in the tea room, then had no cash left to get a drink from the fridge so put an IOU up and said I’d pay.

My boss couldn’t believe he was my brother because I have a different last name 😕

geminicancerean · 01/01/2026 12:27

This is weird for me because many of our good friends are famous, some are big international names, some domestic, a few niche up and coming names, DH is ‘in the biz’. Mil nearly lost her mind at our wedding reception and we had to have a word with her about asking people for selfies (for all the good it did, the next day they were all over Facebook with the caption ‘famous’)

They're just people, even the big big ones. We are a v normal and not wealthy at all.

Damnloginpopup · 01/01/2026 12:31

My daughter stood near Keir starmer while he was being boring at McLaren and was seen all over the media. My grandmother sold dresses to Moise Tshombe's wife. I knew very well a principal royal bodyguard. I was introduced to an Egyptian General (in place of the British ambassador) a few years before he was hanged. I've photographed two princes and a pope up close (professionally). Sorry, make that one prince 😁 photographed many famous bands. Was very well known in a former 'hobby' field (I was a champion, best in the UK) and am highly regarded and well known in a niche historical area. Authored a couple of books and have a few million YouTube views (and have had stuff requested or used by various companies, same with photographs). Steve backshall once tweeted me. Images of me have been in adverts and on products. I've been interviewed by Al Jazeera and have been on TV a few times. Best friend at middle school is a well known singer in a niche musical genre...all true, there's more if I think about it and I don't know anyone as famous as me to be honest, but I'm a nobody outside my front door 😁

ResusciAnnie · 01/01/2026 12:35

I think the question should be ‘how many famous people know you?’. Sure we all met, was at the pub with, went to school with a few famous people, but I wouldn’t say I know any unless they remember/know me. My school bestie is married to someone very famous but I wouldn’t say I know him. Have met lots of famous people through work and had conversations with them but they wouldn’t have a clue who I was.

You’re definitely the woman from the parish council zoom. Jackie Weaver!

BeforeSigourneyWeaverTheyWoveTheirOwnSigourneys · 01/01/2026 12:41

In the 90s I knew load of guys who were in (not famous) bands.

They used to tell every woman they were shagging that various songs were written about them.

Used to make me laugh at how gullible people can be.

KarenWheeler · 01/01/2026 12:43

One, my DSD is close friends with a fairly famous actress.

WarmHam · 01/01/2026 12:44

DH and I took my nephew, niece and families to lunch prior to a matinee of Oliver in July and Simon (Fagin) Lipkin joined us. He had been best man at my nephew's wedding ten years earlier and I had met him then but wasn't really paying attention at the time. I did this time!!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 01/01/2026 12:44

I went to school with someone who played Dawn in Emmerdale in the 2000s.I stood near Paul chuckle from the chuckle brothers in Scarborough pizza hut in the middle 90s.Do I win?

hotchocfiend · 01/01/2026 12:45

Lots and lots due to the nature of my job but as geminicancerean said they’re just people at the end of the day. Either they become your genuine friend and then they’re just your friend who happens to be well known, or they’re someone boring/not nice/you don’t click with and you couldn’t care less. Only people I get starstruck by now are reality TV stars which is nonsensical but there you go!

BillieWiper · 01/01/2026 12:46

None really. I've seen famous people out and about but I certainly don't 'know' them. As a kid knew the offspring of a couple musicians, MPs and a comedian.

I think I was Facebook friends with an actor and another guy from an 80s pop band. And one guy from a punk band from the 70s as I knew his son and was a fan.

I've known very minor actors that mainly do adverts. I used to be mates with Adele's step dad.

So yeah nothing much. I wish I did know loads of celebrities though. Just for the gossip!

TigerRag · 01/01/2026 12:48

Only if "I know people who hold world records " counts

(I hold one. But theirs are way more impressive)

CherryRipe1 · 01/01/2026 12:50

I've got 2 fairly famous cousins, am friends with their mum but dont really bother with the cousins. I was friends with a famous director/producer but he died a few years back. I was also freinds with a minor EastEnders sleb from way back but she got too clingy & let's just say I didn't bat for her team.

About ten academics/authors/poets who are on TV and radio from time to time.
A friend was married to a famous rock star for about twenty years. Through them, I met a few more..
I was friends with a Canadian actor, who died a few years ago.

Nothing startling.

Clangers knitter nails it.
