To think that Kier Starmer shouldn't be welcoming extremists into Britain?

Twiglets1 · 27/12/2025 20:14

Reported in The Telegraph today that Sir Keir Starmer has welcomed an alleged Islamist extremist, who labelled British people “dogs and monkeys” and called for Zionists to be killed, into the UK.

The Prime Minister said he was “delighted” that Alaa Abd el-Fattah had arrived from Egypt on Friday evening after a travel ban imposed by Cairo was lifted following lobbying by ministers.

Mr Abd el-Fattah, an activist with dual British-Egyptian citizenship, previously said that it was heroic to kill Zionists “including civilians”. He urged Londoners to burn Downing Street, told his supporters to kill police and said he hated white people.

Ministers are facing calls to revoke his British citizenship, which he was granted in 2021 while imprisoned in Egypt, where campaigners described him as a “prisoner of conscience”.

Sir Keir’s tweet yesterday said how “delighted” he was that Alaa Abd El-Fattah is back in this country. Does that seem a reasonable stance to take for someone who has claimed at the same time to be committed to "eradicating antisemitism in the UK"?

The government(s) have completely screwed up, not only in granting citizenship but also accusing the Egyptian government of infringing on his human rights. Even if they did revoke his citizenship they cannot return to Egypt. As for the security services what a complete embarrassment. Although I cannot see how this wasn't flagged, this would mean layers of incompetence.

Oh don't under estimate the level of incompetence organisations & Govt's can stoop too.

Good to see support on this thread and the majority sharing their distrust. I hope it's making Jewish feel just that little bit more comforted. So many times these threads end up letting them down even more. Despite a few early attempts to derail the thread, the voting is more heartening.

I think there's ' more' to this story that what we're being told. Did the British government strike a deal with the Egyptians, and received intelligence upon his release? It's all too fishy. I highly doubt successive governments have failed to perform due diligence; someone will have seen those tweets and reported upwards.

I agree. The whole affair sounds like a cover-up of major proportions.

What can we do? Write to MP? Anything else?

But if that's the case, how could they have been so thick as to not get the tweets deleted, and make a big public statement about it? Wouldn't they have arranged for him to wipe his account, possibly fix a new identity for him, and just spirit him in secretly?

I think Starmer really is this fucking stupid. Who is he trying to win over with this?

Sorry but given the PMs glowing testimonial I think this is much more likely to be cock up than some intelligence deal, where chances are the individual would arrive quietly without an X from number 10..

Strikes me it's as simple as a few MPs and others got seduced by people lobbying for a fashionable cause - "activist", nasty Egyptians, Mum on hunger strike at one point..you name it he ticks lots of boxes when comes to those keen on the light touch....

If anyone in the intelligence community piped up they were probably told "oh, he's a changed man"....

Legolava · 28/12/2025 21:17

I think it’s a simple as a huge, huge error. Problem is with that, it shows gaping holes in our national security, those of our security services and those who advise politicians. This is far, far too serious to ignore. It will be though as it will highlight failures across all parties. However the buck does now stop with the current government in power.

Honestly, fuck knows! But it's all just too weird and I do believe there is something behind it we're not privy to. Starmer has dropped some absolute clangers in his time, but this takes the biscuit. As to your remark about being this thick, yes, I actually think he is. Any remaining Labour supporters will be gone after this.

notimagain · 28/12/2025 21:24

@Legolava

" it shows gaping holes in our national security, those of our security services and those who advise politicians. "

Maybe...or is it more likely a case of politicians not listening to advice when given, especially if taking action due to that advice might conflict with a PR opportunity??

TBH despite the noise today I can see this is another issue that both of the major parties will want to bury PDQ.

People like Yaxley Lennon, who seems to spend most of his time abroad, on his supporters dime?

Or just people you don't approve of?

Well yes, we have plenty of home-grown extremists.

It’s both. He should never have been able to get citizenship.

Fluffyholeysocks · 28/12/2025 21:31

I can't see a way out of this for Starmer, how is he going to come out of this debacle with any credibility? I wonder how many MP's were instructed to post their 'delight' in this man arriving into the UK?

Aislyn · 28/12/2025 21:31

KittyTinker · 28/12/2025 20:43

There is an open government petition to dissolve parliament and call an election.

Can you link please?

Sadly all our empathy for our Jewish friends and neighbours who have to hire security to protect their children at school won’t help when Kier Starmer has publicly tweeted support and a warm welcome to a man who wants them all dead.

Kingscallops · 28/12/2025 21:36

It's just another kick in the teeth for Jews. ❤️ disgraceful, incompetent and very very worrying.

Twiglets1 · 28/12/2025 21:53

I’m disgusted by the incompetence or worse of successive governments on this (& other) issues.

However, I’m heartened by the good common sense in the MN community with 90% on this thread now agreeing that No! We the general public do not think that our government should be welcoming extremists into the UK.

Sorry I don’t know how to link but if you search it’s on the government and parliament petition site. It’s not specifically about this disaster it’s about labour implementing policy outside of their manifesto but over the last couple of hours has gone from 6k to over 8k.
