Mood Run GIF by SWR Kindernetz

Just to counter the fabulous threads on 'worst gift' and 'whats first to the charity shop' - is there anyone who's really pleased with a gift? Maybe something you didn't ask for or know you needed, but that you are really happy about or looking forward to using?
What was your best gift?

(My BIL gave me a hedgehog house he had built - and I am utterly thrilled as I've always wanted to get one for the garden but it's never been a priority I could justify getting myself)

Thank you so much ♥️

A couple of great ones. Best was an "Arts Pass" which gives discounted admission/free admission to various galleries, exhibition spaces and museums. I'm going to love using it.

DP's gifts were good (Lego dragon is very cute and in pride of place on my 'things' shelf over my desk now), but my best mate knocked it out of the park with two bottles of shimmery Pearl Dominant Industry ink, and a bottle of Diamine Shimmer ink, in colours that i love and inspire me to do more art!

Oooh that pearl ink is a dangerous discovery. I already have the diamine glitter ones. I'm worried they'll clog up my fountain pen though so they don't get as much use as I'd like. Maybe this is my excuse to buy a dip pen...

A cute little crochet beret that my little boy bought me from the school Eldridge's. Genuinely thoughtful.

MrsMAFs · 26/12/2025 22:43

Vouchers. I don't often have money spare to treat myself and it's been absolutely amazing just splashing out. I've really enjoyed picking things and even more excited for them arriving.

Also got a new electric whisk as the motor went on mine earlier in the year. The Yorkshire puddings were a breeze today!

Reading this thread out loud to my Australian DH and he had NO IDEA what a hedgehog was!!!

We don't overdo gifts but it was a lovely year this year. Highlight for me was a can of soda cooler.

Every night I bring a can of soda water up to bed with me. When I wake up in the morning I like to drink it but what I really want is an ice-cold can of soda water. If I go downstairs to get one from the fridge my very elderly dog will wake up and insist on coming too (need to carry him up and downstairs now).

Dh bought me a thing that cools one can of soda. Woke up this morning to ice cold fizzy water without getting out of bed! bliss.

My lovely DD has booked me a week's holiday in my favourite place. All by myself (as I would want). I cried very happy, very grateful tears.

Since watching the celebrity Traitors I've been utterly obsessed with one of the paintings they had in the castle. Tried everything to get hold of it including increasingly desperate and unhinged conversations with the production team of the show but no dice. It's the only thing I would have asked Father Christmas for. My lovely lovely other half spent ages working with a tiny low res copy of the picture to make it good enough for printing and presented it to me in a beautiful frame. Best gift I've ever got! I received a lot of other wonderful things too, no disappointments, but that is the star of the show for me!

FraterculaArctica · 26/12/2025 23:45

DS1 (age 11) gave me a personalised wooden coaster he'd made in DT at school. I am so thrilled- he has several autistic traits including a general lack of interest or concern for what other people might appreciate. So the fact he thought in advance to make me a Christmas present is very touching. He bought DH a chocolate orange too with his.pocket money 🙂

My autistic daughter has gotten into felting. She made me a model of a Borzoi dog that we saw at Discover Dogs a few years ago (I said it was my fav breed)

She was so proud of it!

That’s so amazing!

That’s so lovely

My ds got me a little table that you clip on to the arm of your chair…I’m forever balancing things precariously on the arm and then getting cross when they fall off so he knows me well. I absolutely love it.

ParentingRollerCoaster · 26/12/2025 23:58

A couple of things that I had admired while ar local markets (DH must have gone back in his lunch break during the working week to get them), a beautiful photo book that he made for us, my parents and his parents and best of all... every month last year, he went to take a picture of my favourite tree (yes.. I have a favourite tree and yes, my family know about it!) .. he decided not to print all 12 pictures but one from each season, onto small canvas blocks.. and had prepared holes in the wall to hang them and bought a light to install above them. It is by far the best present I have EVER received... I cried!!

SpicyMargarita1 · 27/12/2025 00:05

@ParentingRollerCoaster blimey, I’m crying!!! What a wonderful thoughtful gift.

Moortown · 27/12/2025 00:08

An Apple Watch from DP, I’ve wanted one for ages. I’ve no clue how it works though, I’m sure I’ll figure it out eventually.

ILoveFoodAndCoffee · 27/12/2025 00:09

I use alot of headbands in winter as my ears are painful. My DD saw the perfect band for me and bought it. She is a teenager and doesn't get alot of money but insisted on buying it for me for Christmas. I love a specific colour and like specific fabrics/ really dislike others which she recognised. I was so happy with that. It was the listening and understanding that touched me. It cost her a months pocket money.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 27/12/2025 00:13

A got a few lovely things- Ugg slippers, some Clinique skincare items and Polishey nail pens which are a pleasure to use.

Isayitasitis · 28/12/2025 15:43

A new phone!

Very unexpected but very welcome. :)

CatBooksWineInThatOrder · 28/12/2025 15:57

A Lindt chocolate Santa and reindeer slipper socks from my husband! My mum always gave me similar but she died this year so he made sure I still got them. He gave me other lovely gifts too, as always, but those stood out as particularly thoughtful.

ridl14 · 28/12/2025 16:00

I did suggest to my DB I was looking for something similar but he did amazingly, cup holder for my pram and a brilliant reusable travel cup. So easy to use one handed, locks to go in my bag and it's made from 90% recycled steel. I've used it every day since Christmas already!

HansHolbein · 28/12/2025 16:02

Most unexpected was new Dr Martens from my husband. I was going to take my old ones to Timpson’s to get the sole sorted out. Really appreciated.

Best was from my MIL. Some slippers. They aren’t fancy but they are so warm and I didn’t realise how much I needed some!
