Mood Run GIF by SWR Kindernetz

Just to counter the fabulous threads on 'worst gift' and 'whats first to the charity shop' - is there anyone who's really pleased with a gift? Maybe something you didn't ask for or know you needed, but that you are really happy about or looking forward to using?
What was your best gift?

(My BIL gave me a hedgehog house he had built - and I am utterly thrilled as I've always wanted to get one for the garden but it's never been a priority I could justify getting myself)

A year of dates’ already booked, one each month for the whole of next year. Some were theatre trips, a couple of nice restaurants, and some are weekends away! So incredibly thoughtful. I cried.

Wow that’s so lovely! I’d be over the moon if DH did that.

elliesmummy19 · 26/12/2025 13:29

An electric bike. I’ve been wanting one for ages. We rode them while on holiday in the summer and I loved it and had been talking about getting one. I love it. It feels very fancy. Planning to go on a bike ride tomorrow and can’t wait.

DH got me the Lego Home Alone house. Huge surprise as he also got me some equipment for our new home ‘gym’ which I knew about.

And DS got me three books which look good.

YellowStockings · 26/12/2025 13:45

I've been really happy with everything - didn't ask for anything big as don't really need anything, so everything feels like a lovely treat. Best gift probably a new leather purse (that I did need - my cards and money were all being kept loose in my bag!) and a framed drawing by my DD. Honourable mentions to the Boots gift voucher from my sister (have ordered some face stuff I love), the pile of good books I've been given, and some very fun snacks!

New thermal running top with reflective highlights. Used it for my 6.30am Boxing Day run this morning when it was 1 degree C outside! Perfect.

FIL and MIL did me a box of fancy ground coffees so I could have a cafetiere when I got back from my run!

Maryandherlamb · 26/12/2025 13:48

Two lovely bracelets that my partner let my children choose for me.

Comfy wide -legged denim - lookalikey fabric jeans from M&S So great. Love them
. I realise I could have got them for myself but I wouldn't have considered the fabric and the elastic waist band. Won't be able to go back to normal,.more trendy jeans now.

Thanks Flowers

I've only ever heard good things about it.

My neighbour said she loved it but refused to clap at the end because 'they're not real' 🤣🤣

The instrumental band is though!

For the last year I have been going into my local tack shop and trying on this stunning tweed jacket with an obscenely expensive price tag. It’s gorgeous and felt and looked so good. It went into the sale a while back but was still far more than anything I would ever buy myself! My size sold very quickly and I said to my son that some lucky lady would be getting the best present for Christmas. That lucky lady was me!! My partner saw the sale and immediately purchased it for me. I am over the moon but he is very naughty for spending that much!

A cream tea voucher for two at a lovely stately home, valid for a year.

Oddly, I was reading of people being gifted a cream tea on here recently, I thought then what a lovely thing to receive....and now I have one.

tarheelbaby · 26/12/2025 14:28

Teen DDs were on good form at in-law GPs'.
Delicious food there and the night before with best-ever neighbours.

All the right 'little' things since I am fortunate not to need anything.

WiddlinDiddlin · 26/12/2025 14:32

DP's gifts were good (Lego dragon is very cute and in pride of place on my 'things' shelf over my desk now), but my best mate knocked it out of the park with two bottles of shimmery Pearl Dominant Industry ink, and a bottle of Diamine Shimmer ink, in colours that i love and inspire me to do more art!

MrTwisterHasABlister · 26/12/2025 14:33

Woe is me but I didn’t have a single gift. Not married, no kids and the family I spent the day with forgot to get me anything.

A hedgehog house is a fantastic gift. There was a family of hedgehogs living in my next door neighbour's garden for a couple of years. My neighbour didn't bother with them but I used to sit outside very quietly just as it was turning to dusk and watch them come under the fence and eat the food I'd put out for them. On one occasion two of the hoglets walked right up to the chair I was sitting on and they are so sweet. Enjoy!

I really want the Home Alone house, have you started building it? I need to live vicariously through you.

Megsdaughter · 26/12/2025 14:52

DH and i only bought token gifts to open at DS's so DGD saw us open something.

BUT when we got home last night we sat with all the holiday apps open and bought a 5* holiday in Cyprus for our 25th wedding anniversary in September. Cant wait.

HorrorFan81 · 26/12/2025 14:52

Tickets to see one of my favourite films accompanied by a live orchestra playing the score. Perfect present for me 😃

Plus a book on my fave niche genre, various bits from Rituals, a Victoria Beckham eyeliner, new cashmere gloves and some collectable lego. Very happy 😃

Meggie2008 · 26/12/2025 14:53

My parents got us a voucher for dinner, bed & breakfast in a nice hotel, which will be lovely.

My husband got us tickets for a candlelight rock orchestra, which is right up my street

Peridot1 · 26/12/2025 14:54

@Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun - no I haven’t started it yet. We are going away tomorrow - I did suggest cancelling the holiday so I could stay and start building!

Jewelanemone · 26/12/2025 14:56

Diamond tennis bracelet from DH ☺️

His best present is a wildlife cam for our back garden (we back onto miles of common/woodland and have a lot of animal visitors). This was from the family secret Santa.

FuzzyBumbleeBee · 26/12/2025 14:58

Favorite gift was from my mil it's a framed photo of my dogs

Dp got ddog2 for me as an early Christmas gift in March as that's when he was ready to leave his mum, he was ment to go to someone else and we were waiting on the next litter which would've been early 2026 but he ended up mine instead

Owl23 · 26/12/2025 15:01

A necklace, my DH's really good at buying jewellery I like but I'd been thinking (but not said to him) before Christmas that he hadn't in years. Made me feel like he stills sees 'me' as opposed to me being just the mother of his children/someone he shares a home with.

elliejjtiny · 26/12/2025 15:01

Two things.

I asked my BIL and SIL for lush snow fairy stuff. They bought me all the lush snow fairy stuff, including the body spray that I have never bought because it's expensive.

A wii to replace the one i had that the dc wrecked about 10 years ago. Really looking forward to having one again.

Don't worry, I'll start it for you 😁
