Husband told my sister to ‘fucking grow up’

I’m stuck in the middle over something which happened last night. Myself and DH met up with my Dsis and her partner for a dinner in a local restaurant.

The service was a bit slow and DH was getting a bit fed up/hangry. When it eventually came out, everything was placed into the middle for us to share out (think Chinese/thai type meal).

DH immediately started serving items on to his plate and my Dsis basically asked him to stop so she could get a video. He asked why and she said so she could upload on her to her social media. He then said the fucking grow up comment and there was an awkward atmosphere.

DH hasn’t apologised and I’ve had a shitty text off Dsis today. Luckily we aren’t spending Christmas together.

I absolutely think DH was in the wrong but he’s protesting his innocence and said having waited long enough for the food to arrive he shouldn’t have been told he couldn’t eat it.

Who starts videoing a meal , ridiculous when people are wanting to eat .

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/12/2025 18:06

“the done thing “

For wankers!

TheatricalLife · 21/12/2025 18:07

He was rude, but spot on. This is something my teenage niece and nephew would do. Nobody gives a shit about watching a video of someone else's dinner, it's a story that would be immediately scrolled past by everyone.

TheMorgenmuffel · 21/12/2025 18:07

Im with him. I probably wouldn't have said it but I'd certainly have thought it.

soupyspoon · 21/12/2025 18:07

Yes she would spend ages doing all the angles and not wanting shadow in it, and moving glasses out of the way and 'oh, just wait until that person sits down theres shadow', 'oh and now the waiter', can you lean this way you're in the way, can you move the napkin, now can you swivel the plate round....

metalbottle · 21/12/2025 18:07

Honestly, if I knew your sister was one of the annoying types who insists on documenting everything for her 'socials' I'd have served myself even more quickly. Does she thinks she's an influencer @HusSisargument ?

soupyspoon · 21/12/2025 18:08

She needs to see this thread

Hankunamatata · 21/12/2025 18:08

He shouldn't have sworn at her and been rude. He could have easily just said 'no, Im hungry' and carried on

He should apologise for swearing at her

Aintgointogoa · 21/12/2025 18:09

Team DH !

sleepandcoffee · 21/12/2025 18:09

He was overly rude but also she is ridiculous and need to grow up

aperollingintotheweekend · 21/12/2025 18:12

It is extremely irritating. If the food has had a long wait and it hadn’t been mentioned prior I’d have been tucking in too.

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 21/12/2025 18:12

Team nobody.

She was annoying.

Your husband was way ruder than her annoyingness warranted.

And you and your sister's partner just sat there and said nothing?

What a family.

That she was shocked he was so rude and it’s not her fault he doesn’t do social media so isn’t aware that’s the done thing with a lot of people in this day and age. And that it was a 5 second video for her story so could he not have just waited as the food wouldn’t have gone cold.

She sounds very self absorbed.

is it not possible to go out without posting it on social media? Did she ask before the food arrived?

I'd go back to her and tell her to stop being so utterly stupid.

Starandflowers · 21/12/2025 18:13

Fair enough doing all the video nonsense if you are on your own (or at a push if you are with your patient partner) but when you are in company then it’s just rude to make everyone stop so you can get an Instagram story

Your husband maybe wasn’t tactful the way he reacted but he was spot on telling her to get a grip

ThatJadeLion · 21/12/2025 18:13

I think your DSIS was really rude, I think that's really bad manners. Obvs your DH shouldn't have said that though

HusSisargument · 21/12/2025 18:13

Haha no she is not an influencer. Although I did joke once that she was starting to sound like one with her ‘monthly dumps’!

Go out with people who want to eat and socialise next time, not with your sister who wants to live her life through social media. Your DH is right, she needs to learn to behave like an adult.

Well you can see from the poll that the majority are supporting your DH on this one!

Your husband might have been a bit rude, but as the food had taken ages and he was hungry, then wanting to eat straight away was not surprising, and your sister was far ruder telling him to stop serving food so she could do a video for social media.

Your sister owes your DH an apology and really ought to respect real life a bit more than the fantasy world of social media.

Elsvieta · 21/12/2025 18:16

Team DH in that he was perfectly justified in not cooperating with her sm nonsense. But he didn't need to be so aggressive and rude. "Haha, on your bike, I'm starving" would have covered it.

Fangisnotacoward · 21/12/2025 18:16

Yeah, unless your sister is a teenager, im with your DH.

Im not waiting any longer when im hungry for someone to upload a video to SM. To be honest 99.9% of people on SM are unlikely to give a shit about a video of a meal.

You know that she does the IG Shit. You COULD have jumped in and sorted this

Tara220 · 21/12/2025 18:18

Im with DH he was rude but whats the obsession with photographing food? I have a friend that does this.even if its a bloody sandwich! She even posted on facebook once that theres only half of mine in the photo because id started eating before she could get her phone out
