Australia terror threat

I want to go on holiday to australia. I've been before but after what happened to bondi beach, my friend is saying Australia is a very dangerous country and listed as a high level risk of terrorism. I said I still want to go abd if it was that dangerous the FCO would ban people from going. I said I would ask the travel agent when I book. The travel agent said she would still go to Australia but would not go to Israel and said she wouldn't feel as safe in Israel. My friend said the travel agent is only saying this to get me to book the holiday abd spend money so of course she will say yes go.

What does anyone else think? Does what happened on bondi beach pit you off visiting Australia

I am Australian- aboriginal is not considered offensive and is commonly used. Aborigine is what is considered offensive these days.

and yes I know. We open every large gathering of people with a thing called ‘welcome to country’ usually by an aboriginal person and they say aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people as part of it. You can even see it at big sports events.

Ok I dont need time come to this thread again.i was being influenced by my rather immature friend. She even said to me oh it's very hot in australia it's 38 degrees right now. I said but why mention that. Im notgoing now so I'm not bothered what the temperature is now. When I went to a kangaroo park and was surrounded by wild kangaroos which I loved, my friend said to me you went all that way to stand in a field full of kangaroos. You can see kangaroos in uk zoos. She thought it was pointless. She has no idea. The only place she visits is full of art deco buildings and skyscrapers

The whole of the western world is under the same terrorist threat. At least Australia has recently undergone an attack, therefore security will be tight.

Or the London bus bombing or the Ariane Grande bomb attack/Southport/London/Notts stabnings. Prob been more shark attacks in Australia

The risk is similar to the U.K. possibly lower, chance of it happening again but not likely. Same for Western European countries more generally. Other countries are actually far higher risk

It was the way the OP used the name that seemed offensive.

@PerkyOchrePeer I find it absolutely fascinating that you are happy to spend the £££££ that it must cost to travel to Australia yet you've have no interest in travelling in the UK (except Somerset 😁).
Why don't you want to explore your own country?

Maybe I should cause i like different cultures. The only place where not much crime happens is the isle of mull. It is so small and remote. I've been there

You say you stick to your home town and haven't visited anywhere in the UK except Somerset (and Mull?) so when you thought "I really fancy a holiday" what made you choose Australia?
Did you not want to start small and visit Whitby or Dundee or Llandudno or Belfast or the Tebay Services on the M6 or literally anywhere in the UK??

She goes to America. I dont query why. I just think it's her choice. Why should we go to other parts of uk if we dont want to

No obviously you don't have to visit anywhere if you don't want too.
It's not compulsory.
I just find it odd to not ever travel places in your own country.

The FCO are not in the position to ban anyone from travelling anywhere. We live in a democracy. Surprise! It’s up to the country we want to travel to letting us in! They give advice. And the advice for Australia is not significantly different from any EU country or the UK. Just go. Have fun!

I think you’ll find that residents of Birmingham are subject to UK laws just like every other person in Britain.

DS lives in North Bondi and heard the shots. He said people are shocked and angry but not scared.

DD flies out to Australia for Christmas today with her partner. I feel sure they will have a wonderful trip. You can't go through life being frightened of what might happen.

Could you let us know which areas these are? Born and bread in Brum and never heard this bollocks before.
