Australia terror threat

PerkyOchrePeer · 19/12/2025 15:47

I want to go on holiday to australia. I've been before but after what happened to bondi beach, my friend is saying Australia is a very dangerous country and listed as a high level risk of terrorism. I said I still want to go abd if it was that dangerous the FCO would ban people from going. I said I would ask the travel agent when I book. The travel agent said she would still go to Australia but would not go to Israel and said she wouldn't feel as safe in Israel. My friend said the travel agent is only saying this to get me to book the holiday abd spend money so of course she will say yes go.

What does anyone else think? Does what happened on bondi beach pit you off visiting Australia

I've booked my holiday now

I mean, taking just one "fact", where are these places?

in every single city there are massive areas where even the army won’t go let alone the police as they are running it under sharia law

Yep, the classic frother sign, no links, no evidence, no nothing.

slughater · 19/12/2025 21:29

well we all know there are areas of Birmingham like that so why not in Australia

Diamond82 · 19/12/2025 21:32

Just a reminder this terror attack was specifically targeting Jewish people celebrating a Jewish festival. A bit different to the general threat level of terrorism in Australia.

I'm in Australia, and fairly well informed, and there are no places like that that I have ever heard of, hence the question.

Newmeagain · 19/12/2025 21:38

What a bizarre thread. Australia is by no means a perfect country and has its own problems. The UK does too! But it’s safe and an amazing place to visit.

Lurking in the dark corners of her imagination.

I do not recognize the country described in her comment. I don't think anyone sane or informed would.

Agree. I've never heard such a load of rubbish!

SouthernNights59 · 19/12/2025 22:53

OP, given your previous thread about Australia why do you even want to go there again? I can't imagine anyone there is begging for your return, given your previous derogatory remarks.

NotAnotherScarf · 19/12/2025 23:00

We've been bombed by the Germans, the ira, the anti Nazis league, the far right, the far left, the Muslim extremists, an unknown bomber destroyed Avon and Somerset police firing range... Australia has had one attack... you've got more chance of dieing of flu than being blown up in Australia

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 20/12/2025 01:34

seafoamhair · 19/12/2025 21:01

We say 'First Nations' now, actually.

Exclusively? Individuals and organisations refer to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people regularly. That would not be remotely offensive? First Nations more of a recent import from Canada/global term?

And it’s summer now so even less chance of flu! Plus we give reciprocal health care to British citizens so you’ll be well cared for free of charge in our hospitals.

I doubt this thread is serious however FWIW I live in Sydney and nobody I know has changed their daily lives at all. We are very sad and outraged but we still live in a very safe country.

@TryingAgainAgainAgain First Nations is the preferred term and has been for more than 5 years to my knowledge.

TheSandgroper · 20/12/2025 04:01

@PerkyOchrePeer You seem very discontented with your life and choose things to fix on.

You have tried Australia previously and didn’t seem to find what you are looking for. I don’t understand why you have chosen to start this thread. And I don’t know what else to say to you to redirect your mind.

It depends where u go. I do like Adelaide. Im planning to go back next year. My last trip was to Brisbane. I didn't like it at all and won't go there again

I think my friend tried to influence me. She is Jewish and after what happened she thinks australia is a terrible place full of terrorists. I asked her if she would be scared to go to a jewish celebration in the UK and she said no because she has never been to a celebration here where anyone had rocked up with a rifle and started shooting so she feels safe here. That's why she said australua is da gerous

Two attacks https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Arthur_massacre_(Australia).

One reason Australia is so safe is that immediately after the above, the government of the day instigated an immense gun buy back, which has been regularly repeated by various states, and strongly tightened our gun ownership laws.

Plus we’re about to have another national gun buy back, and potentially a gun amnesty. When the federal government returns to parliament next year they’ll be tightening up gun ownership laws and limiting how many guns a person can own.

@PerkyOchrePeer Please don’t come to Australia. You’re what we call a whinging Pom. Terrible for your country’s image. I find it very sad that you went to somewhere like Kangaroo Island and found it boring. It’s about native wildlife there and the environment, not architecture. If you want architecture then find some cities that have the sort that you want. Plenty of colonial era buildings you can go see, or from the 1800s, or churches, or modern architecture. You can see buildings in any country. You won’t find our natural environment and animals anywhere else in the world.

FeralWoman · 20/12/2025 04:41

BTW, our terror threat level remains unchanged in Australia despite the Bondi shootings. That was two crazy dickheads with weapons. One dead, one who is charged with 15 murders and unlikely to ever walk free again. They are no threat now.

ThatBlackCat · 20/12/2025 05:11

Indigenous is the preferred term here in Australia. Rarely 'First Nations'. But it's not an Australian term per se.

ThatBlackCat · 20/12/2025 05:13

And no, no one is really changing their life here at all. It was one religious attack on an annual Jewish celebration in an area known to have a very high Jewish population. There is no high terrorist alert here in Australia.

Zanatdy · 20/12/2025 05:14

I’d still go. I travel around London a lot and don’t even think about it and we are a big target too. Just live your life, if your time is up, its up.

SweetnsourNZ · 20/12/2025 05:20

Australia is a huge place and the likely hood of getting caught in a terrorist attack is really remote. More likely to have to escape a bush fire at this time of year, or some other weather related event.
There is really no terror free country left in the world.

MermaidMummy06 · 20/12/2025 05:29

I'm Australian. I am not concerned about terror threats any more than I have been previously. That doesn't mean I'm not concerned & don't think more should be done (ASIO is a joke) but this incident hasn't made me more scared, just more sad.

The spiders aren't the issue right now... It's snakes on the move and it's bloody hot.

No, not exclusively, but that seems to be the current, more preferred term here.

I witnessed a fight in Perth 2 years ago. A white australian was beating up an aboriginal and people were just standing around watching. Nobody had called the police and I shouted has anyone called the police. Eventually 4 police officers came and arrested the white woman. The aboriginal was very frightened

I’d brush up on your terminology prior to your visit (assuming this thread isn't a windup) — the way you’re using the term aboriginal is outdated and can be offensive.

Saying “an aboriginal” reduces a person to a label. In Australia, we say Indigenous Person, First Nations Person, or if you must Aboriginal person. Language matters, especially when you’re describing violence and racism.
