A secret Santa one (peed off)

OneGreyBiscuit · 19/12/2025 10:28

Went out with girls from work and done secret Santa. The spend was £20. I got a tiny box of celebrations, cheap socks with my initial on and mug with my name inserted into a quote. It basically looked like a raffle and nowhere near £20 worth, a tenner at best. I had to sit there and watch others opening some lovely things - an ornament from next, no7 stuff, fuzzy duck, perfume. And the thing is I know full well who it was from. Obviously that person doesn't think as much of me as I hoped. Aibu to feel a little miffed? Id appreciate no hateful comments as I feel crap enough.

That's nice for you, please join the club, £3 socks from b and m, such thought, care and love. The way a lot of you are going on you'd think they'd been handcrafted in Harrods and sprinkled with Chanel no5

Oh good grief.

BlackCat14 · 19/12/2025 18:29

Do you actually know they’re from b&m and cost £3 or are you just being really rude?

No one is implying the gifts you received are Harrods level, but I think it’s interesting that you can’t see how the gift you received (that made you feel like crap) was very similar calibre to the one you gave.

Really you could've fooled me! And no I'm not being really rude, I've just seen them on website thanks.

But you bought a Baylis and Harding gift set, op.. 😆

Equally your chops, candles and Baylis and Harding could also have cons from B&M - they sell all these things.

But a small box of chocs and B&H toiletries aren't better than initialed socks and a personalised mug? I really don't understand how you place more value on the gifts you bought. They are all generic, tairly thoughtless gifts.

I typed in women’s socks on their website and this is all that came up. Can’t see any personalised ones for £3, can you point me in the right direction, I’d quite like to to get some for that price!

Exactly what I thought - B&H is the ‘posh’ stuff in B&M

The £1 box. Everyone's taste is different but yes I would've preferred the ornament.

Bayliss and harding really is cheap generic shit that will definitely be put in a raffle or regifted nobody likes it. What she got you I'd be very happy with

CarlaLemarchant · 19/12/2025 18:40

OP, you seem really cross over a secret Santa. Genuine question…was this likely to be one of your main presents this Christmas as I could see why it may be upsetting to be underwhelmed if it is?

If you’ve got plenty of gifts coming from family etc then just put this down to experience and treat yourself to something you’d like.

Radiator981 · 19/12/2025 18:43

I would not buy Bayliss & Harding for anyone.

It's quite laughable that I've been called a snob on here and yet how many goading comments have I had on here about baylis an Harding? I thought it was quite a nice brand, obviously not.

When I buy a SS gift for someone I always make sure I spend the amount suggested and try and buy nice thoughtful items but this isn't always reciprocated a lot of the time so I get it

Are the ones who pulled me up on my grammar going to do the same with this one? No, thought not.

I'm more cross about the amount of shit I've had on here tbh

Give over OP.

My typo isn’t a grammar issue, it’s a typo that autocorrect had a stab at. Grammar that ‘ain’t.

You seriously sound like hard work. Step away from victim mode and accept you’re being a bit of a diva.

OneGreyBiscuit · 19/12/2025 18:57

Maybe get out of your spiteful mode and I'll get out of my victim mode, how about that? And maybe proof read before posting?

Don’t join in any future random gift giving. They’re always disappointing.

bluesunnyskies · 19/12/2025 19:06

I pulled out and have since refused to do or participate in work Secret Santa since the last round where I received items that were clearly less than budget and out of date chocolates. I would chalk it up to experience and either do the same or next year, suggest people write three things they would like and their buyer has to pick one of those items. We did that one year and it seemed one of the more successful Secret Santa rounds.

OneGreyBiscuit · 19/12/2025 19:10

Hi all I've just cut my husbands head off and set fire to the cat. I think if I'd posted this I wouldn't have had as much crap as I've had on here today. And with that I'm out, you all crack on with your vitriol.

The vast majority have apart from the ones who can give constructive criticism without being rude and personal

I know you have been soaked in the full AIBU rained-on-parade, but I think the more pleasant responses are the ones you should focus on. Or at least acknowledge in the discussion. That might change the tone and help you feel less pissed off with things.

LadyKenya · 19/12/2025 19:12

Throw some water on the cat, and just opt out of SS in the future OP. It will save a lot of hassle.

LadyKenya · 19/12/2025 19:14

This is why I am glad I don't do anything like this. I don't buy any Christmas presents for Adults, they can buy their own!

You think B&H is nice (the majority of people don't think like you) yet you think a personalised mug and socks with your iniitals aren't nice? Can you see how unreasonable you're being?
