Watch me do my morning routine!!!

Lay in bed this morning and it’s all coming up
on my Ig feed. Mums with huge houses, gardens & cars. Waking at 5 am, getting dressed, taking their huge water/juice/coffee bottle flask thingies and driving in the cold and dark to the gym, working out then doing pilates in the morning. We see the step by step account, the perfect outfits, the perfect skincare routine, back home making eggs & pancake and fruit for their child/children.

Whose morning routine is like this? Am I just failing at life 😂

My morning routine today-Dd woke me at 7, I stayed in bed for ten minutes later as didn’t want to leave my warm bed, then felt guilty as Dd desperate to see what the elves had done
Came down-coffee, Dd opened advent calendar & watched tv. Made Dd Ready brek and a banana, scrolled my phone. Pulled on leggings and fleece, sorted Dds bag, did her hair, droped her at school, back home, lay on sofa-(work in evenings)

It's a job for them.

Nobody would choose to get up at 6am and clean toilets, or stock shelves, or drive a lorry for hours either unless they were getting paid.

My morning routine wouldn't do well online either though, nor would my nighttime routine.

Mulledjuice · 16/12/2025 12:39

The more you watch the more you will get.

I just have visions of them on normal days rolling out of bed a mess, shouting at the kids to get up, slamming down a box of cereal etc 😅

It’s all so fake

Lots of these things all over SM I do indulge sometimes in the mindlessness of it all. My most annoying ones are GRWM when the 'influencer' seems to be unable to buy clothes in a size that actually fit them. No-one would watch my morning routine it generally involves rushing around trying to get 3 primary aged kids ready for school without forgetting anything. They are generally all a modern version of the Avon lady and are just trying to sell you something whether its obvious or not

Dexies · 16/12/2025 12:44

its sales and marketing

InSpainTheRain · 16/12/2025 12:45

I don't have anything like that in my feed as it's not the sort of thing I watch - and @Mulledjuice is right, the more you watch the more you will get.

I think that many people who do these sorts of posts/content are actually struggling themselves (not all but many). I think they use it as a lever to make themselves do things that otherwise they feel they would fail at.

I was chatting to a girl on a city break recently who had live-streamed her breakfast (yes really!) she said that she had to do it because otherwise she would lay in bed all day and do nothing apart from be depressed. This set me thinking that perhaps many people struggle with life so they create this view online then have to keep it up. Just my thoughts.

I don’t actually watch these normally so no idea why so many came up this morning. I did see a Sunday night reset thing the other week with thousands of likes, it was so boring to watch

It’s their job to create a facade and make others feel inferior so they can be seen as better and hold influence over their viewers. I prefer to watch more realistic people (or none at all!).

I am in my early 50s and a recent empty nester. My morning routine on an ideal week is like this:

wake up at 6am
drink collagen and creatine. Take multi vitamin and NMN plus extra magnesium and vitamin D
walk dog
eat two boiled eggs and a grapefruit
go to gym for reformer pilates
sauna, shower, full body lotion, make up and hair in bendy rollers
healthy smoothie on way home
undo hair so it has some wave
couple of hours of work
have lunch with DH

My alternative routine is:
wake up late because I've had a shit night's sleep
immediately realise I don't feel like reformer so try to cancel slot
take the dog out to go to the loo very briefly because its pissing with rain and its cold and dark
ditch the gym and have two coffees with four biscuits
work for five hours stopping intermittently to each more biscuits
realise its nearly lunchtime and I'm still in my PJs
quickly shower and leave my hair wet.
ask DH if he wants a sandwich but he's too busy to stop working so we both just grab toast and a bag of crisps and work through.

Guess which one happens most often.

MotherofPufflings · 16/12/2025 12:55

Fair play if it makes them happy. I genuinely feel lucky that it wouldn't make me any happier to live like that. I am quite content with my slightly saggy body if it means I can stay in bed later.

Littlebuddh · 16/12/2025 13:12

Rolled out of bed at 10.30.
Had a gallon of coffee about 10 fag's.
Had a shower clean pjs.
Changed my bedding that was a workout in its self.
Put the washing on pop it in the dryer when it's done.
Now having more coffee waiting for eggs to boil.
Nothing else to do to day.

Anonanonanonagain · 16/12/2025 14:43

Hmm mine is as follows:
Alarm at 6.30.
Downstairs with dogs out for a wee, fill up their food, first coffee and a scroll.
7am put chicken/rolls/waffles whatever the kids are having for breakfast and taking to school for lunch, make own breakfast/lunch to take to work. Have second coffee.
Say goodbye to little cherubs at 7.30 (they are up since 6.30 showering as all teens)
7.35am My shower, do hair/makeup/get dressed and into car for 8.15 to drive to work.

I have not and will not ever exercise before work. Even if i had time it would not happen. Mostly does not happen after work either though,,,

mumofoneAloneandwell · 16/12/2025 14:45

I needed to see this post 😄😄

Was feeling so guilty about our mornings but honestly, i am tired!

Dontlletmedownbruce · 16/12/2025 14:46

Honestly why are people still comparing themselves to influencers on Instagram? Everyone knows its fake. It's been around a few years now, we all know the deal. YABU to waste your time looking at this rubbish.

DarkEyedSailor · 16/12/2025 14:48

I get up at 6, dress, make cups of tea
Ask child nicely to get dressed ×5
Tell child to get dressed with slightly menacing tone
Walk dog and child in the pissing rain through deeply unpleasant council estate
Make breakfast and lunches
Do hair, do face, do child's hair
Feed dog
Take child to school
Go to work.

I don't think it'll make me my fortune on Instagram.

I agree OP. I don't know anyone whose lives reflect the stories on social media.
In reality, those who post about their wonderful lives are covering up the reality of everyday life

bonquiqui · 16/12/2025 14:50

You’ve also got to remember they’ve had to set up every shot to film their so-called routine. So you see them skipping merrily along loading the kids into the car, they’ve already been out and set up the camera, pressed record and walked back out. It’s all fake and utterly ridiculous

Enrichetta · 16/12/2025 14:55

… work for five hours stopping intermittently to each more biscuits

You managed to do FIVE hours of work BEFORE LUNCH…!!!!

I'm impressed 🤗

Kizmet1 · 16/12/2025 14:57

I do see those sometimes and it always cracks me up because they know we know that they had to set up the camera to get these shots, and there is a very real chance that none of it is even the first take! It's all been captured deliberately, edited heavily, and then consumed and forgotten within 24 hours. Bonkers!
Personally the worst ones are when they try to keep it real and film themselves breaking down in tears like they didn't just set the tripod up. It feels so gross, like every moment and every emotion is for sale.

Anonanonanonagain · 16/12/2025 14:59

Oh ha I love that they are all perfectly made up etc first thing. For the first 2 hours of my morning I look like I live under a bridge doling out insults to passers by.

Anonanonanonagain · 16/12/2025 15:02

Oh one I do watch though is the woman who does american family meal deals but mainly to see how much lovely food they can get in a takeaway there compared to what I can get where I am. Always these fabulous looking salads and all the rolls and huge portions and it costs about 50dollars. Where I am that is nearly the cost of the bloody delivery fee.

I have actually watched a few of the 'plate dinner with me' ones and I find it amusing that they have so many followers where they have made say a roast dinner but it gets plated up and can only be fucking freezing being put on the table with the amount of time it takes to record etc. Also there is no way some of them are size 6 and eat HUGE portions of dinner every day.

FOJN · 16/12/2025 15:03

They're not real. Probably filmed on multiple different days and at different times of day.

It may be possible for them to go everything they say they are doing in the time they say they are doing it but not if they are filming. They have to set the camera up, review the footage, perhaps do several takes, go back get the camera from wherever they placed it to get the perfect shot and move onto setting up the next shot.

They're usually just marketing videos anyway.

Kitchenbattle · 16/12/2025 15:06

I wake up naturally at around 5:45/6 most days…I get up get dressed, go downstairs and make breakfast and kids packed lunches, sort my bag for work. Sit in my sunroom and enjoy a cuppa in peace. Wake up the dc. They get ready…run out the door etc. the big difference is no gym and I don’t post it on social media. 😅

Ha ha, this is more like me except I don’t smoke. I’m retired and unless I have anything organised which means I have to be up, dressed and out in the morning, my days normally start around lunch time.

Theendog · 16/12/2025 15:10

Think you might be the last person to realise social media is fake.
