Watch me do my morning routine!!!

Lay in bed this morning and it’s all coming up
on my Ig feed. Mums with huge houses, gardens & cars. Waking at 5 am, getting dressed, taking their huge water/juice/coffee bottle flask thingies and driving in the cold and dark to the gym, working out then doing pilates in the morning. We see the step by step account, the perfect outfits, the perfect skincare routine, back home making eggs & pancake and fruit for their child/children.

Whose morning routine is like this? Am I just failing at life 😂

My morning routine today-Dd woke me at 7, I stayed in bed for ten minutes later as didn’t want to leave my warm bed, then felt guilty as Dd desperate to see what the elves had done
Came down-coffee, Dd opened advent calendar & watched tv. Made Dd Ready brek and a banana, scrolled my phone. Pulled on leggings and fleece, sorted Dds bag, did her hair, droped her at school, back home, lay on sofa-(work in evenings)

😆
This made me think of a video reel I saw on Facebook of someone taking the piss out of influencers
By doing a video of drinking a glass of water so the most boring thing but saying all these amazing things about it
It really made me laugh cos I saw so much truth in it 😆😆

StudentDays · 16/12/2025 16:44

One of the many reasons I deleted Instagram 😂 I am without children and my morning routine resembles nothing like that.

Thing is no one lives like that - it's fictional content

The big houses and cars (when they have them) paid for by husbands job, or inheritance I suppose.

The big influencers make good money doing what they do. It's honestly not all from their husbands or inheritance. If you hit the right algorithm and have a decent following, you're pretty set as long as you can be bothered to keep going with it.

Many are airbnbs they rent out for content

I’m seriously confused by these videos. I know it’s fake and the “influencers” make money going through this ridiculous charade but even if it was really what they do every day, why on earth would anyone want to watch them doing it?
I’m not on instagram or TikTok so I’m not the target demographic clearly but with so much in the world to watch or listen to, why would you subject yourself to this banal drivel?

Tinkerbell1281 · 16/12/2025 17:02

GreatestDay · 16/12/2025 16:24

My ‘morning routine’ isn’t too dissimilar. I get up early to work out for an hour, then walk the dogs, make breakfast for everyone some mornings, look after myself in terms of skincare, have a nice lifestyle, house etc. I don’t film it for social media but there are lots of people like me who have this ‘routine’. I wouldn’t want to be putting my life on insta but if people want to and they make money from people watching then 🤷🏻‍♀️ I do hate it when people put their kids online though.

I don’t think anyone is failing at life if they’re not living in the same way. Routine, being healthy, exercising etc keeps my mental and physical health good so that’s why I do it.

Same here - Love the routine for my mornings. Minus the filming!

That’s such a strange confusion to have. It’s obvious people like different things isn’t it? People like banal drivel, it’s a bit of light hey escapism. I don’t understand what draws people to radio 4, or heavy metal, or Minecraft or CoD, but I am aware that other people enjoy it without being “seriously confused”

Do you not shower?

Also the dumbness of waking up at 5am to ‘journal’. Who does that crap?

I don’t get up at 5 but I do try to write in my journal each morning - dog, cat and kids permitting. I often don’t succeed.

PizzaForBreakfast · 16/12/2025 17:28

I see these ‘glamorous’ influencers all around London with teams of usually 2 individuals, a tent to get changed to, so they can then pretend online it was different days, filming shameless content, doing several takes of some insipid shit. All nauseating and shows the sad reality of SM in general.

MrsWallers · 16/12/2025 17:29

I am so glad that I dont have to monetise my life like this. I was way ahead of all of the decluttering and tidying fashion thing. I just loved doing it since I was a child and enjoy helping people without having to post about it on SM or IG or whatever. I am very glad my life is not up for criticism in the public eye. Just to add I do also have a paying NHS Clinical job.

I do it it too. It’s really helpful for mental health issues, which I’ve struggled with in the past. That ‘crap’ as a pp called it, helps a lot of people have better mental health. It’s harmless so I’m not sure why people have to be so negative about it.

I've been on MN years under various names and my experience is that, generally, people like to sneer at anyone who appears to have their shit together - especially if they're also morning people.

Quite common generally on forums but I don’t think people stop and think about how emotionally unintelligent they sound before claiming to find so many simple things hard to understand

InSpainTheRain · 16/12/2025 12:45

I don't have anything like that in my feed as it's not the sort of thing I watch - and @Mulledjuice is right, the more you watch the more you will get.

I think that many people who do these sorts of posts/content are actually struggling themselves (not all but many). I think they use it as a lever to make themselves do things that otherwise they feel they would fail at.

I was chatting to a girl on a city break recently who had live-streamed her breakfast (yes really!) she said that she had to do it because otherwise she would lay in bed all day and do nothing apart from be depressed. This set me thinking that perhaps many people struggle with life so they create this view online then have to keep it up. Just my thoughts.

Watch these YouTubers for long enough and they inevitably let slip about having some or other mental health condition. I personally think a lot of them are doing social media because it's the only job they can do. They can set their own hours, they don't have to talk to anyone or have relationships with work colleagues, there's no having to explain to the boss why they haven't done what they were told to do and getting a telling off for it, can take time off at a moments notice if they need to because they're answerable to nobody except their viewing figures and the algorithm. They do the morning routine videos because they've not necessarily got much in the way of a life to film.

Oh I agree. I think people use it as a way to try and make other people feel stupid or small, not realising it does the exact opposite.

Or maybe they actually enjoy what they do and not having to deal with people making sneery comments like yours.

Absolutely, putting pen to paper is so helpful for processing feelings, getting your thoughts in order and just taking 10 minutes for yourself. I love a new notebook and a nice pen.

I get a lot of the of young single mothers who have had triplets/quads after having 3 older children.. It's very impressive watching their routine.. and strangely comforting ☕

Exactly, and routine in general can be really helpful for people who are prone to depression or anxiety. I personally find routine really comforting and while I'd never share my life online to that extent, my mornings are very routine based (as is my after-work time).

That's the beauty of social media, if you don't want to watch, just scroll on.

Lots of people clearly do like watching 'cause these people often have millions of followers and make good money from filming what they do.

Bumblefuzz · 16/12/2025 18:54

I get up at 5.15am to have time to do my jobs (dishwasher,/wiping kitchen/lunches/feed cats/clean cat litter). Shout at kids 25 times that it's time to get up. At leisure centre by 6.30am, leave at 7.30am, home, dressed, kids out & to school for 8.15/30 & off to work.

Wouldn't have time to film it as far too busy 'doing' it. Besides, look a total frazzled mess!
