Watch me do my morning routine!!!

Lay in bed this morning and it’s all coming up
on my Ig feed. Mums with huge houses, gardens & cars. Waking at 5 am, getting dressed, taking their huge water/juice/coffee bottle flask thingies and driving in the cold and dark to the gym, working out then doing pilates in the morning. We see the step by step account, the perfect outfits, the perfect skincare routine, back home making eggs & pancake and fruit for their child/children.

Whose morning routine is like this? Am I just failing at life 😂

My morning routine today-Dd woke me at 7, I stayed in bed for ten minutes later as didn’t want to leave my warm bed, then felt guilty as Dd desperate to see what the elves had done
Came down-coffee, Dd opened advent calendar & watched tv. Made Dd Ready brek and a banana, scrolled my phone. Pulled on leggings and fleece, sorted Dds bag, did her hair, droped her at school, back home, lay on sofa-(work in evenings)

It’s fake. The entire thing is staged. That’s obvious.

I’ve never liked influencers. I despise the whole thing. The only one I like is a horse influencer who is completely chaotic and hilarious. But she also works a full time job. It’s when they give up their job that it goes to shit.

I highly recommend checking out Kiki Chanel on YouTube for anti influencer content. Tides are turning and people are no longer enjoying this bollocks content.

FWIW, my morning is this:

Husband wakes me at 8 with a coffee. Takes me 40 minutes of scrolling before I can even keep my eyes open. Get up at 9 and take meds. Greet daughter and dogs and sit down again while I wait for meds to kick in. Thursday- Saturday I have to turn out our horses. I do this in PJs half asleep.

10 - my daughter wants lunch (yes, lunch) so I make a full meal. Then I get dressed and do hair and makeup.

I then do housework etc.

Very aesthetic.

Great, but you saying you ‘somehow’ manage sounds very sneering. Other people may need to get up earlier to achieve what you do or maybe they have different circumstances to you. Maybe they don’t have any other opportunity to go to the gym or exercise at home due to having children and no childcare options, maybe they spend more time exercising than you, maybe they want more time to make their hair look nicer, maybe they have more children or children with different needs etc

Yes, I agree. It’s strange that some people seem annoyed that others get up earlier to get things done.

I get up early to exercise, then sort our animals, shower and get ready for the day, make breakfast for everyone, take youngest to college and then start work. Although I don’t put it on social media, my ‘routine’ isn’t fake. I know loads of people who do similar to me, mainly because we are morning people, we function better in the mornings and it helps our mental health. I like to be organised but I also like to have relaxed evenings so this is how I do it.

MarbleDrive · 17/12/2025 08:58

My morning so far. Woke at 8. I am still in bed. Sent a couple of work emails. Titting about on my phone. My first meeting is at 10, so I will definitely get dressed before that. But will undoubtedly join it from my bed as it’s cold!

Quite the opposite in fact. I was saying that these morning routine influencers are presenting that this is the best way to stay on top of life and keep fit, it is literally what they are 'influencing'. I don't need to do that and I don't find their videos aspirational or make me feel 'influenced' to take on such a routine.

Yes I imagine people with lots of kids do need more time in the morning. I had one kid, by choice, because, back to my original point, I would fucking hate to get up at 5am everyday.

I am simply talking about my preferences and choices. Absolutely embarrassing yourself by getting offended over it. You can get up at 5am, I don't give one tiny shit

Edited

You can get up at 5am, I don't give one tiny shit

😬 You do seem to care quite a lot by the way you are responding to the pp.

Everyone should just do what works for them.

Obviously I am responding to the fact I am being told I am sneery and judgemental, not what time she gets up

TreeDudette · 17/12/2025 09:11

I get up at 6:45 and make coffee and take it back to bed. I nudge DP out of bed at 7:30 and he goes in the shower whilst I make teen DD some breakfast. I go in the shower at 7:45 and then at 8 DP and I take the dog out, DD sorts herself out and then walks to school. At 9 I sit down at my desk and start my day and I sometimes eat breakfast in my first meeting and sometimes just wait for lunchtime. On the weekend the time stays the same as does the dog walking but I feed DD when we get back instead of before we go out. Dog likes his routine.

My morning routine involves getting pissing wet on the yard doing the horses. Not much fun to watch I don’t think 😂

You’d be surprised! I get tonnes of videos like that on my FYP.

bonquiqui · 16/12/2025 14:50

You’ve also got to remember they’ve had to set up every shot to film their so-called routine. So you see them skipping merrily along loading the kids into the car, they’ve already been out and set up the camera, pressed record and walked back out. It’s all fake and utterly ridiculous

This. And also when you see them stretching and yawning in bed with a face full of make up and perfect lighting 🙄

Starlight1984 · 17/12/2025 09:31

User214263 · 16/12/2025 15:57

I love these. They're so fake! Who the fuck is willingly getting up at 5.30am to tap their nails on serum bottles in front of a camera?!

Argh the tapping of the nails on everything makes me want to scream!!!!

jadoreyes · 17/12/2025 09:31

That “morning routine” was probably filmed over a week.

People like to slag off this sort of influencer but honestly, viewers also need to use some
judgement as well. It’s no more real than a vogue photo spread. If you can watch it and enjoy it while understanding that then great. If you can’t and find it makes you feel bad or inadequate, then stop watching.

There’s a lady in America somewhere who has to round up all her tortoises every night - it’s oddly fascinating 😂

Good point. We have all been exposed to ‘fake’ for years in magazines and tv. I think what annoys some people about influencers on SM is that it’s new and that influencers sometimes earn lots of money when others don’t see them as working hard enough and therefore aren’t deserving enough of it. They feel like anyone could do it and it brings out the nasty comments. Obviously not everyone can do it though as lots try and fail. Some people say they’re annoyed because it puts pressure on others but people really need to take some responsibility. If it makes you feel bad, turn it off. If you’re happy with your life then an influencer working out at 5am isn’t doing to make you feel bad.

ExpertInAbsolutelyZero · 17/12/2025 09:41

It’s too much like Stepford Wives for my liking.

Starlight1984 · 17/12/2025 10:18

My morning routine:

6.30am - Alarm goes off - snooze for 10 mins. Spend those 10 mins waiting for the next alarm to go off.

6.40am - Reluctantly drag myself out of warm bed and turn shower on. Wait an eternity for it to get hot enough. Have shower, brush teeth, face routine, get changed into scruffy / warm clothes for dog walk.

6.50-7am - Out with dogs in the pitch black (and rain usually). One hour walk across fields and woodland, all getting increasingly wetter and muddier. Dogs having the time of their life.

7.45-8am - Back home, wet / muddy clothes off and in the washing machine, dogs cleaned down (worst job ever), kettle on.

8.15am - Change into work clothes, have the worlds quickest brew with DH, feed dogs, leave house for work.

NostalgiaWhore · 17/12/2025 10:49

I am not a morning person but do have a very good friend who does this. She probably does not look "perfect" but she is not an insta influencer. She does get up at 5am every day and drives to the gym to workout for an hour before her day starts (she's a mom and works full time). She has done this for as long as I have known her. Its just her life and she says she would never have the time to work out otherwise, she feels better for it (and she definitely looks amazing), so all power to her. She now has grandkids and is a doting granny but does not look like one at all, she's hot! No pain, no gain?

AnOldCynic · 17/12/2025 10:53

I’ll watch for a short while if they crop up in my feed so I can say ‘Oh Fuck Off’, wonder what’s become of the world and then continue on my mediocre day 😂

But then I’m old, and a cynic.

You should. People love seeing horses, even watching all the mucking out. 😁

ColdWaterDipper · 17/12/2025 12:27

I imagine very few people actually live like that on a daily basis, and even if that is their normal every day routine, they are still only showing the best bits, not the frantic last minute hunt for a school tie, or the children squabbling over who gets to brush their teeth first!

i wake up at 6am and I live in a big house, but there the similarities end, because our house is always slightly (sometimes very) messy, the children are far from IG perfect, and we have horses, dogs, chickens, cats and various other creatures on our farm, plus two sporty outdoors kids so at this time of year stuff is wet & muddy a lot of the time. I seem to always have at least one pair of rugby boots drying above the aga, and various coats slung over chairs to dry off.

if you enjoy watching them, do so, but be aware you’ll see more and more as that’s how the algorithms work. I love watching make up things atm even though I don’t wear make up myself 😂

I watch three influencers regularly, one is local to me, I have no interest in her life as she doesn’t really do anything and is frankly a bit dull but she is renovating her house and I’m just nosey! once the house is done I will switch off. The other one has more of a story, her partner had an affair and is putting her life back together on her own and comes across as a lovely person, it’s been nice to see her go from devastation to now coming out the other side and being successful, the third is another thirty something who lives with her partner and gorgeous dog and has a lovely house, her videos are nice and relaxing and just a nice calming watch while I’m getting ready in the morning.

I’m under no illusion that they are all basically sales people and as a mid fifties woman I’m not their target market anyway. The first and third influencer both regularly comment on their mental health and social anxiety, one even hides from the trades people make when they have work done to the house so I agree with the pp that the influencer job appeals to those personality types.
