Watch me do my morning routine!!!

Lay in bed this morning and it’s all coming up
on my Ig feed. Mums with huge houses, gardens & cars. Waking at 5 am, getting dressed, taking their huge water/juice/coffee bottle flask thingies and driving in the cold and dark to the gym, working out then doing pilates in the morning. We see the step by step account, the perfect outfits, the perfect skincare routine, back home making eggs & pancake and fruit for their child/children.

Whose morning routine is like this? Am I just failing at life 😂

My morning routine today-Dd woke me at 7, I stayed in bed for ten minutes later as didn’t want to leave my warm bed, then felt guilty as Dd desperate to see what the elves had done
Came down-coffee, Dd opened advent calendar & watched tv. Made Dd Ready brek and a banana, scrolled my phone. Pulled on leggings and fleece, sorted Dds bag, did her hair, droped her at school, back home, lay on sofa-(work in evenings)

Hahaha, that is absolutely not real life!

Today, I had a phone call just after midnight from a friend who just wanted to chat. My phone was on silent but I happened to be scrolling funny dog videos.

Woken up at 7.30am on the dot by my dog doing yoga poses on the bed and who then did a bit of digging on my head reminding me she wanted her breakfast.

Breakfast done, back to bed for me.

10am, got up properly as I needed a wee. Reluctantly did ablutions half heartedly, got dressed. Went downstairs.

Watched Emmerdale.

Told myself that today will be the day I'll rescue my jeans from the washing machine which has been stuck on an error code since Saturday.

Tried watching some other stuff with the 'when this has finished I will...'. Had a bag of crisps.

Looked at dog who was snoring, decided her walk can wait a bit longer.

Had another bag of crisps.

Looked at washing machine, gave the door a little tug, nope, still not opening. Put some rubbish in a bag because the bin is full. Can't empty bin because the outside bin is also full.

Looked at Netflix with the renewed idea of finding something to watch and 'then I will...'.

Now it's after 3pm. Dog not walked, jeans are still locked in the washing machine, house is a tip because of never ending bathroom renovations, I've not made my bed or delivered neighbours Christmas cards and I'm wondering how early I can go back to bed 😆😂

I had a friend like this . Her Instagram was all green juice, meditation, exercise etc

She came to stay with me. I suggested going out for a run , she didn’t want to know. All she wanted to do was sit around.

I had stocked up my fridge with healthy food, as I thought that was what she liked, and she just kept saying haven’t you got any chocolate/ crisps etc!

She later had a breakdown and turned out to be really struggling mentally.

It’s all fake .

Oh and I have a big house/am slim / going to the gym a lot. But my morning routine is still get up at 7, wolf down a microwave porridge, rush DC to school looking like a mess!

user927464 · 16/12/2025 15:18

I think it probably is their real life but only on their very, very best day. When I'm having a good spell it can be like that and I float around in my Alo yoga wear with everything running smoothly and feeling very virtuous- but most of the time it isn't.

Poor woman 🥲 is she better now?

I love these videos! I'm 47 (my DD jokes that the flicky videos are like crack for Generation X mums)

I generally get the gorgeous 20something 'girlies' who have incredible jobs in the city.

However I am also a morning person, so while my morning isn't as glamorous, it is similar. I always get up between 4.30/5am because that works for me. Dog walks/wees, then I workout in my filthy dusty open fronted garage where I have to wear gloves as my weights have condensation on them and I get leaves in my hair.

Then I do the school run at 7am, straight to work where I eat my oats/chia/flax/creatine/kefir breakfast with my decaf coffee.

In my lunch half hour I walk outdoors irrespective of the weather or I swim.

So not a million miles away! (and I lived and worked in the square mile in my mid 20s so I like the aspirational part of the videos).

6am alarm snooze a couple of times scan headlines
wake eldest teen - that’s fun
inevitably say “the train won’t wait for you” get teen out of house
have 10 minute coffee drinking time
wake younger teen
inevitably say “this is why I suggest we pack bags the night before”
eventually get youngster on bike

in between all this am making flasks of tea and soup for lunches, toast, finding shin pads, unblocking printer paper, checking everyone has their phone “just in case”

but hey I love being their mum, I like taking a tea up waking them gently “come on time to get going” starting the day with them even grumpy teenage them is better than having a day without

but no one wants to see this online they want to watch this unobtainable supposed perfection - there is just as much love and movement going on in millions of households every morning - it’s just interspersed with “well did you bring them back from training?” questions

I don’t actually watch these normally so no idea why so many came up this morning. I did see a Sunday night reset thing the other week with thousands of likes, it was so boring to watch

But you watched it so the algorithm sends you more. “It” doesn’t know you didnt like it.

Friendlyfart · 16/12/2025 15:42

Sounds like a load of fake BS to me! I sometimes went swimming after drop off when I was working p/t. That’s about it!

vanillalattes · 16/12/2025 15:51

My mornings can be a bit like this but I'd never dream of posting them on social media - and my evenings generally consist of lying under a blanket, eating crisps and watching re-runs of shit TV shows Grin

Winterwonderwhy · 16/12/2025 15:54

Also the dumbness of waking up at 5am to ‘journal’. Who does that crap?

Itiswhysofew · 16/12/2025 15:55

Don't imagine they're doing that everyday?Grin

MotherofPufflings · 16/12/2025 12:55

Fair play if it makes them happy. I genuinely feel lucky that it wouldn't make me any happier to live like that. I am quite content with my slightly saggy body if it means I can stay in bed later.

Thing is no one lives like that - it's fictional content

The big houses and cars (when they have them) paid for by husbands job, or inheritance I suppose.

User214263 · 16/12/2025 15:57

I love these. They're so fake! Who the fuck is willingly getting up at 5.30am to tap their nails on serum bottles in front of a camera?!

So when do you have time to watch videos

So when do you have time to watch videos

After work when I'm so tired I am in bed by 8pm scrolling for an hour 😂

whatsnewpussycat34 · 16/12/2025 16:05

mine is

alarm goes off at 7am
snooze

alarm goes off at 7.10am
snooze

Alarm goes off at 7.20am
snooze

this goes on till about 8am

Then I doom scroll with a brew in bed and kick myself for not being rich. Peel myself out of bed at about 9am and then do a soul destroying WFH job till 5pm. I may or may not cry a few times in between.

seems to be working for me.

localbutterfly · 16/12/2025 16:11

I think people should start doing REAL, uncut and uncensored "watch me do my morning routine" or "get ready with me!" (#GRWM) videos. Leave everything in - each time you snooze with the alarm on pause, your shower and shit from start to finish, the WHOLE Peppa Pig episode, the search for clean underwear, the entire internet surfing session, the full footage of tooth brushing and face washing and hair detangling and clothes wrangling for each child, feeding the pets, emptying the litter box. Include all the nagging, the bickering, the false starts, the mindless chatter, and the endless queries about things misplaced or forgotten.

Kejmagpie · 16/12/2025 16:12

It sounds like you need to spend less time on your phone and the cesspit which is Instagram.

xmasstress12 · 16/12/2025 16:15

I have no idea why people watch people do this type of thing. I get it if it’s Taylor Swift or Brad Pitt & it’s a sneak peek into a crazy unique world but a mum going to do Pilates?!

UncleTed · 16/12/2025 16:20

I recommend watching some of Celeste Barber’s videos. It’s not ‘morning routine’ based, but she does her own parody versions of ridiculously perfect SM posts and they are so funny and really help put things in perspective.

Ireolu · 16/12/2025 16:21

Yes we know its fake but it still appeals to some people or else they wouldn't post these type of videos. I don't engage and would encourage others not to either. I find it all nauseating. No one is perfect. No one's life is perfect.

it doesn't make them happy, it makes them money!

GreatestDay · 16/12/2025 16:24

My ‘morning routine’ isn’t too dissimilar. I get up early to work out for an hour, then walk the dogs, make breakfast for everyone some mornings, look after myself in terms of skincare, have a nice lifestyle, house etc. I don’t film it for social media but there are lots of people like me who have this ‘routine’. I wouldn’t want to be putting my life on insta but if people want to and they make money from people watching then 🤷🏻‍♀️ I do hate it when people put their kids online though.

I don’t think anyone is failing at life if they’re not living in the same way. Routine, being healthy, exercising etc keeps my mental and physical health good so that’s why I do it.

Doobeedoobeedoobee · 16/12/2025 16:25

Your morning routine sounds much nicer I must say!

Stockingsonthewall · 16/12/2025 16:38

Theendog · 16/12/2025 15:10

Think you might be the last person to realise social media is fake.

It’s ok, I realise 🙄
