Small tasks that feel like such a chore

I don't mind having a shower, washing my hair, drying it, getting changed, but I find brushing my teeth such a chore.

I feel a bit like that about folding and putting away laundry but not the same level.

What small things do you find such a chore?

For those who will ask what the AIBU is, AIBU to find brushing my teeth a chore?

I even listen to a podcast or something watch something on my iPad and it's a 3 minute job (I have braces so it takes longer but I felt this way before then)

Anything that requires a password. I fucking hate the fact you can’t move on the internet without an increasingly long and complicated series of letters being typed out.

Shinyandnew1 · 02/12/2025 22:34

Making packed lunches-I think it's my worst chore!

AmberRose86 · 02/12/2025 22:34

Right now? That fucking Elf

OrangeSequin · 02/12/2025 22:34

Loading and emptying the dishwasher - so boring but not as boring as hand washing.

Putting on new bedding - the worst is when you forget about it until you’re ready to get into bed and then you realise.

For me personally I love brushing my teeth, but when I’m in bed watching tv and each advert break I tell myself to get up and do it seems to be hard and long work for me 😂

I love that devices save them

Silverbirchleaf · 02/12/2025 22:35

Emptying the cutlery part of the dishwasher. Don’t mind the plates, cups etc, but not the cutlery (our dishwasher has the cutlery on the top shelf, not in a basket).

Hoovering

Drying myself after a shower.

I like a shower and I’m happy to dry and straighten my hair afterwards, but drying my body annoys me.

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 02/12/2025 22:36

My cats sleep on my bed during the day, so I have to make my bed the second I get up and then cover it with "cat sheets" so their fur doesn't get on the actual bed. This is very tedious.

True but I hate when they gaslight you like “we have stored your password 😊” and it’s the wrong password or “click here so we don’t ask you this again 😊” and they always ask again. Every single time.

Sorting out my hair is a chore for me - I think menopause isn't helping, I need to wash it every day at the moment. I wish someone would just rock up to my door and style it for me each day. I tend to just dry the top and some tendrils and then whack it up into a messy bun. Also I would love to outsource someone to respond to texts/emails throughout the day that aren't work ones. I think that because I often work from home that people think I have all the time in the world to respond to them at odd hours - despite how often I say that I don't!

Yes this as well!

I think that's it. It's getting up to do something when you want to go to bed. Maybe that's the link between the teeth brushing and the bedding...

OMG yes!

Yes that sounds tough. I'm currently drying my hair and it takes ages. I'd find it hard to wash and dry it daily. I'm procrastinating- I've put down the hairdryer to post on Mumsnet...

Shaving my legs
drying my hair
washing up

CookieCrumbles23 · 02/12/2025 22:42

Just getting out the door! Even though my kids are ready and everything’s quite smooth, I just dread that bundling out of the door with bags, coats, lunchboxes and then getting it all out the other side at drop off.

Lastfroginthebox · 02/12/2025 22:42

Getting dressed. It's such a bore and you have to do it every day. I don't mind so much if I'm doing something specific and know exactly what to wear, but otherwise deciding is hard work.

Yes! Now I’m finding that once you’ve typed in your log in details on some sites you have to wait for a code to be emailed before you can enter.

i saw the title and came here to say I hate brushing my teeth. Still do it but it’s a grind!

sunnymummy238 · 02/12/2025 22:44

My hair has been falling out- I wish I had more to dry! I hate mopping floors. Ugh!

Moontwigdotcom · 02/12/2025 22:45

Those interdental brushes (your hygienist always knows if you haven’t been doing it)

Moontwigdotcom · 02/12/2025 22:45

Oh and cleaning out the rabbits

SwedishEdith · 02/12/2025 22:45

Everything about getting ready to go out. Yes, I could go without make-up etc but I'm vain enough to feel I "need" it. But it's such a bore. I'm surprised not really that someone hasn't invented a thin film that you drape over your face each morning with your make-up already done on it.

I also want someone to invent a little device to clip on your teeth that tracks along them brushing them while you do anything else. Like a roomba for your mouth also a choking hazard .

I really hate having to get petrol.

FrankSinatraonToast · 02/12/2025 22:46

It's not the brushing if the teeth thst annoys me, but the flossing!

Howtogetthrough · 02/12/2025 22:47

Brushing my teeth and using the damned interderdental brushes is just downright tedious.
I really find preparing food boring. I'm happy to eat it though.

100%!

and yes it's the interdental brushes... I use a water flosser which is great and then I use interdental brushes (mainly as I have braces) and then the actual brushing isn't as bad if I use my manual toothbrush. For some reason brushing with the electric toothbrush is the worst so I alternate.

It takes so long doesn't it? And for me at least, it warms me up too much, which I don't really need with my hormones at the moment (!) even in winter I am toasty and I've just come out of the shower anyway! Good for you, I do the same often - halfhearted two minutes of blowdrying and then go and do something else!
