Small tasks that feel like such a chore

I don't mind having a shower, washing my hair, drying it, getting changed, but I find brushing my teeth such a chore.

I feel a bit like that about folding and putting away laundry but not the same level.

What small things do you find such a chore?

For those who will ask what the AIBU is, AIBU to find brushing my teeth a chore?

I even listen to a podcast or something watch something on my iPad and it's a 3 minute job (I have braces so it takes longer but I felt this way before then)

Everything about getting ready to go out. Yes, I could go without make-up etc but I'm vain enough to feel I "need" it. But it's such a bore. I'm surprised not really that someone hasn't invented a thin film that you drape over your face each morning with your make-up already done on it.

I also want someone to invent a little device to clip on your teeth that tracks along them brushing them while you do anything else. Like a roomba for your mouth also a choking hazard .

I really hate having to get petrol.

Yes a hands free robot toothbrush would be great!

I agree about getting petrol as well

Getting up in the night for a wee. If I'm lucky I can will myself back to sleep without getting up.

@VeterinaryCareAssistant agree with having to make the cat bed every morning.

Codes to log on. I even have to wait for a code to be texted to me at work if it's a computer I haven't used before.

Brushing my hair. I've always wanted to be like my friend whose hair is always a stylish tousled mess. If I don't brush my hair at least 5 times a day I look as though I've been dragged backwards through a hedge.

Babybaby2025 · 02/12/2025 22:52

Picking dog poo up in garden.

Hanging clothes up after washing

Carrying toilet roll/tooth paste/body wash etc upstairs to bathroom - this one i can't comprehend my reluctance 🤣. Ill unpack them out of shopping bags, leave them on kitchen island, look at them and think 'I'm going upstairs now, I should probably carry them with me....but nah'.

I also hate any firm of 'life admin' task, I hate forms, will literally put them off weeke even if only takes 5 minutes. I recently had to fill something in for hmrc but got locked out so needed to call, took me 4 weeks to get round to calling as it felt like such a chore.

I'm fine doing laundry, using dryer, loading dishes but as soon as something different needs doing, e.g changing / cleaning a filter etc I can't be bothered. Last year I remember not using my dishwasher for 2 weeks as a spatula jammed in the tray, was a 3 minute fix when I eventually got round to it.

I'm super productive in many ways, just have strange mental blocks with certain tasks that make them seem like a way bigger chore than what they are.

Getting petrol, I hate and I put it off and off.

Cleaning windows, mirrors etc.

OP I was going to start a thread about this very topic the other day. Although mine is cleaning water bottles, I hate hate hate it. I just cannot be bothered. Especially DC’s ones as they have a ‘straw’ bit and lots of little faffy bits that require a mini bottle brush thingy.. does anyone else have the same issue or any tips on how to do it or how not to hate it?

Applying bastarding sun lotion. It's smelly, greasy, stains clothes, never sinks in. The absolute worst chore. Also nagging the rest of the family to do theirs. I love the winter.

When I've finished doing all the other tedious crap I need to get done I'd love to make time to invent semi -permanent sun lotion. Go for a spray/dip in spring and that's you until autumn.

Having a conversation with a man on any household chore - it’s like getting blood out of a stone

SingingOcean · 02/12/2025 23:03

Deciding what’s for tea, discussing what’s for tea, shopping for ingredients for tea and then cooking tea. And just when you’ve done this it’s another week and you have to do it all over again.

Bananatoastie1 · 02/12/2025 23:03

Filling up the car and dropping of parcels for things I need to return. Tonight I had to do both, the car was running on fumes and the parcel will have to wait till tomorrow now because the evri shop had closed! But deep down I know it won't get done till the weekend.

Treviarpelli · 02/12/2025 23:04

Thinking of what’s for dinner.
Once it’s decided I’m happy to shop for it, cook it, even clean up afterwards but omg working out a menu plan 🥱

Arlanymor · 02/12/2025 23:05

I like getting petrol, because I love driving, I will get all of your petrol provided you pay for it!

I’ve seen those mist things you walk in before on videos that look amazing
I use a spray one which is pretty good, no rubbing in

Larymarylary · 02/12/2025 23:07

Yes to dropping off parcels!

ItsAJourney · 02/12/2025 23:08

Preparing a side salad! 🙈 My husband and I agree this is the worse part of preparing meals. We even buy the mixed salad bags to reduce the annoyance but you still have to get everything out, wash everything, chop it, assemble it. Ugh!

I only allow water bottles that can go through the dishwasher in their entirety for this exact reason. The kids sometimes ask for fiddly ones and I say 'I think you'll get fed up of washing all those bits' so I'm passing on the feeling to the next generation!

Cleaning the cooker and oven !
Anyone know a simple and easy way ?

My kid is a teen and I’ve taken revenge against the little bastard like this for a few years. He’s at the mercy of my chosen Xmas decorations each year 😆

Genius @DysmalRadius. What kind of water bottles do you have? I don’t like plastic ones but fear that’s what I might have to buy if I want to avoid hand washing them…

Moon30 · 02/12/2025 23:13

Packed lunches but also budgeting when pay day comes, I have to transfer money to different accounts so we don't overspend, I hate it and I never ever do it on pay day, sometimes it will take a week or even longee before I hype myself up to do it and by then we've already overspent 😬 it mentally exhausts me

Snugglemonkey · 02/12/2025 23:16

CookieCrumbles23 · 02/12/2025 22:42

Just getting out the door! Even though my kids are ready and everything’s quite smooth, I just dread that bundling out of the door with bags, coats, lunchboxes and then getting it all out the other side at drop off.

Do you have children who suddenly need yo bring everything? I am traumatised every time we leave the house because my toddler suddenly appears with her luggage. Like to leave her brother to school today (she was coming right home with me!), she needed her 3 backpacks (all full), a cycle helmet, a stuffed unicorn, a barbie and she was shouting "wait a minute, I need me bike" the whole way there 😒

Aaaallthefood · 02/12/2025 23:17

The stupid, small bin we have ‘hidden away’ in the cupboard, attached to the bottom cupboard door. Great as it saves some floor space, but it seems to need emptying (what feels like) every hour. Really quick job but I just hate doing it!!
