Small tasks that feel like such a chore

I don't mind having a shower, washing my hair, drying it, getting changed, but I find brushing my teeth such a chore.

I feel a bit like that about folding and putting away laundry but not the same level.

What small things do you find such a chore?

For those who will ask what the AIBU is, AIBU to find brushing my teeth a chore?

I even listen to a podcast or something watch something on my iPad and it's a 3 minute job (I have braces so it takes longer but I felt this way before then)

Do you have children who suddenly need yo bring everything? I am traumatised every time we leave the house because my toddler suddenly appears with her luggage. Like to leave her brother to school today (she was coming right home with me!), she needed her 3 backpacks (all full), a cycle helmet, a stuffed unicorn, a barbie and she was shouting "wait a minute, I need me bike" the whole way there 😒

🤣 sooo cute! I don’t know where kids think they are going, but they seem to think they need their most precious possessions with them at all times lol.

My son insists on us parking a little further away so he can scooter in. The bike/scooter hut is in quite an inconvenient spot, so I wheel it back to the car, bashing my ankles every so often. That’s another minor daily task that drives me mad 🫠

I hate brushing my teeth. Not just because it’s a chore. Though it is. The concept of it makes me want to be sick. Toothbrushes are disgusting.

I find all self care a chore. Showering is so boring. Doing my hair is worse. The bit where I’ve finished the shower and dried and now I need to do something with the clothes I took off - like, when will this purgatory end?! Plus bodies are so needy. I just did it yesterday. What do you mean I have to wash this body again? Who decided hair had to be styled and why were they so bored that they invented a whole new entirely unnecessary chore….?Whole thing is a massive ballache.

Turnitoffnonagain · 02/12/2025 23:37

Vacuuming the stairs. Although I have bought a silicone brush recently which does help.

Pricelessadvice · 02/12/2025 23:38

Stopping for petrol.
Drying my hair.

CoralPombear · 02/12/2025 23:38

Hoovering. I hate it. Weirdly I like laundry (except for ironing). An empty washing basket gives me a sense of extreme satisfaction. For approximately one hour as I have teenagers in the house.

Tryingatleast · 02/12/2025 23:40

Washing a frying pan. Drives me nuts, Id nearly go without the food instead of poring out the oil, wiping then washing. Hate hate hate!!!

I feel like this now I’ve gone through menopause. It’s all so boring. And I hate the transitions from getting dressed to standing cold in the shower.

I hate to say it because it’s the last thing you feel like doing initially and it feels so counter-intuitive, but the only way I can handle it is if I incorporate it in to a strict routine involving getting up, going through the exact same steps, at the exact same time, and after a while every morning becomes the same and then it becomes so automatic you don’t really acknowledge it to yourself that it’s happening if that makes sense?

Sweeping the floor after the cat has used the litter tray. I shouldn’t complain as he’s a very good boy, but he is a right little digger and scatters litter everywhere. Our previous cat only used the tray in desperate circumstances (like ten feet of snow) whereas this boy truly loves it and will come in, use the tray and flick litter all over the floor, watch me tidy up, then go straight back out. I don’t even mind scooping the poo, I just hate the endless sweeping.

This is probably standard, but washing pans. DP insists they can’t go in the dishwasher, but if he’s away or out they definitely do.

Anything that requires a password. I fucking hate the fact you can’t move on the internet without an increasingly long and complicated series of letters being typed out.

pass word manager such as ‘Lastpass’

gamechanger.

FastFurious02 · 02/12/2025 23:55

I absolutely loathe emptying the dishwasher and changing bedding. Both hard work.

in fact I really hate domestic chores period

Pets At Home do litter tray mats. I got one in the biggest size possible. It’s cut down the litter kicked all over the floor immensely. I think it was £12.

Making my bed every morning and yes having to brush teeth before bed when I’m tired and just want to go to sleep

Everything about getting ready to go out. Yes, I could go without make-up etc but I'm vain enough to feel I "need" it. But it's such a bore. I'm surprised not really that someone hasn't invented a thin film that you drape over your face each morning with your make-up already done on it.

I also want someone to invent a little device to clip on your teeth that tracks along them brushing them while you do anything else. Like a roomba for your mouth also a choking hazard .

I really hate having to get petrol.

@SwedishEdith you must be v creative - you've invented two new things in one post!

TheDogsMother · 03/12/2025 00:22

Thinking what to have for every single meal, every single day. Petrol station. Going for a wee. All boring things.

mrsfollowill · 03/12/2025 00:31

deciding what food we are having all week and buying and cooking it- so over it after 30yrs inc packed lunch every day. I used to like cooking- was a hobby for me!

Oh, going for a wee. The urge always happens when you've finally got going with another boring chore and you have to stop that.

Friendlygingercat · 03/12/2025 00:39

I hate putting the shopping away after the Tesco delivery driver has been.

patooties · 03/12/2025 00:57

The bathrooms- specifically the fucking showe screens. I’m the only person who squeegees the the bloody things. They just look grim. I think k I clean them daily. It really really really pisses me off.
I am contemplating giving the kids a chore of a daily bathroom whizz over (we have a cleaner who scrubs them weekly - it’s the day to day bullshit of ‘spitting toothpaste onto the taps’, leaving gobs of blue toothpaste in the sink, water marks on the god damned screen ~and leaving the loo looking like Glastonbury~ that wipes me out.

BethBynnag86 · 03/12/2025 01:02

Getting dressed and undressed in the winter-layers and socks and things.I also dread putting my bra on because I have to wear an extender strap and the bluddy thing keeps pinging off.

BethBynnag86 · 03/12/2025 01:04

.....oh,and fighting with woolly tights!

OSTMusTisNT · 03/12/2025 01:06

Brushing my teeth. Two minutes twice a day (or more if I've eaten something that makes my teeth 'furry') and they are the longest 2 minutes of my whole day.

I also find putting on moisturiser very tedious.

Happy to deep clean a whole room though!

Annebowlyn · 03/12/2025 01:10

Eating, so bored of it, I now just eat the same every day and don't cook for anyone else, so much easier! No more endless what's for tea crap. I used to like cooking too, cannot abide it now, tedious drudgery.

HumphreyCushionintheHouse · 03/12/2025 01:16

Unpacking after taking a trip. I’m ok with dealing with mine and the kids dirty laundry from the trip, I just dump out the bag into the laundry basket and take care of it in good time.

But the clean clothes, all squashed from the travelling but never used, and unpacking the toiletries, chargers etc is such a pain in the arse, the suitcase sometimes sits there for days or weeks.

Londog · 03/12/2025 01:23

Currently, the thought of dragging the Christmas tree🎄 and decorations out .. and then writing Christmas cards .. pleasant occupations as they are, I’m procrastinating to a professional standard 😩

LoudPlumDog · 03/12/2025 01:23

Moisturising my body after a shower.
Shaving legs.
Thinking what to have for dinner every single day.
Washing the dogs water bowls. So many!
