Weeing in the theatre

Went with my DCs to the theatre in London. There was a little boy seated in front of us with his mum. I think he was around 3-4yrs old. During the show, his mum had him wee in a bottle twice when he needed the bathroom. Trousers down and everything. They were otherwise fine during the show – not noisy or anything.

I get that it’s annoying having to take your kids to the loo during a show, but I would never have done this. Poor woman in front of them turned round and got a … well, a full on view.

YABU – I would do this
YANBU – I wouldn’t have

There’s not a chance I would ever do anything like this. Totally inappropriate.

MYOB12 · 30/11/2025 16:52

That’s disgusting! 🤢

PinkPonyClubDancer · 30/11/2025 16:52

Yuck!

Didimum · 30/11/2025 16:53

I know. It was so weird.

I never took mine to the theatre until they could hang on to go to the toilet and could sit there quietly.

Leaon · 30/11/2025 16:55

We go to see kids theatre shows in London a lot and I've seen this done more than once (usually with a potty though). I wouldn't do it myself although my dcs have never had problems needing to go quickly, we would just use the loo before the show starts and they wouldn't need it for a few hours afterwards. Some kids would wee in their pants before they'd make it to the loos.

TheChosenTwo · 30/11/2025 16:55

Yikes! Never seen or heard of anything like that before 🥴

TartanMammy · 30/11/2025 16:57

Bloody hell, that's awful. They usually don't let you return to your seats during the performance if you get up but this is not okay!! What about what boy's dignity and right to privacy.

I was on a flight this summer and the woman behind me had her toddler use travel potty on the seat, just grim! Take them to the toilet.

If they can't make it from their seat to the loo without an accident they're not ready to be potty trained. Going in a bottle in public is not the answer!

IglesiasPiggl · 30/11/2025 17:00

It's utterly inappropriate to have a wee in a theatre auditorium, no matter what your age. Bloody awful.

StewkeyBlue · 30/11/2025 17:03

What fresh hell is this!

Just when I thought phone use, excessive sweet rustling, talking and singing along had taken us to peak theatre-based ASBO

Porkychops · 30/11/2025 17:04

That is nasty, I have seen those special bottles for sale for kids to wee in and someone put in the comments that they were great for using when rhe kids were in a Q at the airport! What the actual...

AgnesMcDoo · 30/11/2025 17:04

That’s unbelievably anti social and I would have complained

It was a kids show, so I think loo trips would likely be allowed.

What do you do with the potty contents afterwards?

Shit lazy parenting at its finest

MellowPinkDeer · 30/11/2025 17:16

I would have complained to staff after the first time tbh. This is absolutely fucking disgusting.

Livpool · 30/11/2025 17:23

That is VILE 🤢

Zov · 30/11/2025 17:25

That's foul. Disgusting and inconsiderate. What about other people who have paid for a ticket to see the show, having to put up with seeing this? (And smelling it! Piss stinks!)

The theatre would have had a toilet FFS!

Of course YANBU to say this is grim. 💀

RaininSummer · 30/11/2025 17:29

It made me wonder as I wouldn’t, but I’m not your typical Mumnsnetter who showers 4 times a day and changes bedding 6 times a day. Mum appeared to be a completely typical well-to-do person etc.
