Booked a last min two night trip next weekend
Booked Krakow and they were £30 each (me and partner )
Excited at first but then adding everything up
Hotel is £180 each
Uber to airport £50 each way
spending money £200 each
Then a drink in airport
So your looking at £430 plus £45 to choose plane seats as I’m scared of flying so that’s £480 ish
This close to Christmas
We literally live month to month
We don’t have savings etc
We do normally have around £1300 disposable income after bills but we never save and also our food comes out of this too.

Sensible me is thinking loose £30
What would you do?

You won’t lose the whole £30 either as the taxes are refundable. No brainer. We did similar a few weeks back. Tempted by silly cheap flights but then realised the add ons.

I wouldn’t say we are on the bones of our arse.
We have no savings but we do have money each month to do whatever we fancy

Get a bus
Get a cheaper hotel
Eat at cheaper restaurants?

LlynTegid · 20/11/2025 15:06

I think cancel, as noted you get the tax back.

Though in my case were it Ryanair I would never have booked in the first place, as I would feel I was condoning bullying and customer practices that should be illegal.

ohitssnowww · 20/11/2025 15:07

Thanks I didn’t realise you could get tax back ,that’s helpful to know.
Ive got a habit of jumping into things without thinking it through.
it was be who booked and my partner wasn’t as keen

£1300 disposable income except food?!!! You're doing more than ok. Also don't bother with booking seats etc, you can shave a lot off what you've costed it out to be.

I vote go but cut your costs! Surely there are hotels for cheaper than that - have you checked apartment booking websites? If it was me I would try and cut the hotel budget in half and get a train/bus rather than a taxi. There is a guide to doing Krakow on a budget in the lonely planet! https://www.lonelyplanet.com/articles/krakow-on-a-budget

How to visit Kraków on a budget

Getting the most out of a visit to the most popular city in Poland needn’t have you drifting into insolvency.

Why on earth would you think a holiday is a good idea when you can't afford it.

If it seems too good to be true...

TreeDudette · 20/11/2025 15:20

You can get a 1 bed Air Band B in Karkow central for $160 for 2 nights (£80/night each) for next weekend.. I just looked! Park at the airport or use bus. Don't pick your plane seats. We Air BnB all the time. Much cheaper to self cater. I love checking out the local food shops and trying new stuff. If we want to eat out we do it at lunch or breakfast - more cost effective!

ohitssnowww · 20/11/2025 15:22

Thankyou il take a look at cheaper options
I have never used air b&b before
It’s not that we can’t afford it because we would still have money left for the month.
Its just that with it being closer to Christmas etc
obviously money is needed for gifts etc

Whether you cancel or not, bear in mind with most European city break destinations the public transport options to and from the airport are much better than here. No need to paying for ubers.

ohitssnowww · 20/11/2025 16:00

The Ubers are from our house to airport and back as typically the connecting train is having a line closure that weekend ,our flight doesn’t land in krakow till 11pm on the Saturday so will be a bolt I think (apparently only £7 ) and flight home Monday is 11pm so will (if we go ) just jump on the bus which apparently is only £2 each …

FastTurtle · 20/11/2025 16:03

Cancel and use some of the money you didn’t spend for Christmas.

I'm not sure you want people to talk you out of it or not.

ohitssnowww · 20/11/2025 16:11

He wasn’t no,as we have a holiday for June booked for next year (paying monthly ) so has said to just look forward to this..we are going to London for a night after Xmas too so he says to just save for that…like I say I thought wow £30 and jumped in head first

I'm not sure you want people to talk you out of it or not.

I’m honestly having a two way battle with myself
One hand I think I would enjoy it and do want people to say YoLO
the other sensible part of myself is telling me to get a grip and save some money and wants people to talk me out of it

Krakow is very cheap once you’re there. Do you drive ? Is airport parking cheaper than a taxi?
that is very expensive for the hotel.
Food is extremely cheap.
